GW is gutting consumer and game store loyalty with greed. Plain and simple. The growth model has reached its cap and the company needs to revise back down to an affordable product. It does not cost them nearly as much as they say it does to manufacture these kits on mass. It costs them more to print the box than it does to cast the kit. The growth model for business is applied to everything we need, not just luxury items like GW kits. And we just can't afford it anymore. GW should see a reduction in profit. They will still make profit and pay all their employees, but it doesn't need to grow anymore. 30mil in profit last year

their is no such thing as enough profit sadly. take Mcdonalds... theyve literally maxed out every single avenue to build. they have no new customer markets to tap, no stone hasnt been turned over, they make sooo much profit now that the only way to show growth (in other words look good to the board or stockholder or whoever is on top) the only thing they can do is continue raising pricesbecause it doesnt stop people buying it. so if GW has a growing fanbase, more people than ever playing, then they will never lower prices because at this price they are selling. discounts happen when things dont sell. or to eliminate surplus

I don’t know how GW stores are supposed to make a profit at all. I can buy 90% of the kits on Amazon or other stores for discount. I have zero incentive to go to the store except for model of the month. Plus, it’s a small store so even though they do offer painting lessons or a few other community building events, you can’t fit many people in there and when I did go, it was rather crowded even with five people I just didn’t feel nice . The one guy that runs it always looks stressed and it absolutely affects his interactions with his customers if they’re not buying something.

The GW strategy should be streamlining production for different units as much as possible in order to lower costs as much as possible. Cost is the biggest barrier to entry for Warhammer and if it can be lowered then I think you will only see good things come of it.

Warhammer is an incredibly niche, luxury product. And it is much more successful than other games BECAUSE it doesn’t race to the bottom on price. Acquiring minis isn’t the bottleneck, as evidenced by everyone in the hobby having a “pile of shame” or many more minis than they possibly have time to paint. Race to the bottom on price ain’t it.

And yet everyone in my friend group loves the lore and could tell you everything from the Horus heresy up to the most latest lore in 40K. And when I ask them why they don’t want to play 40K, there is an equal mix of “I’m just in it for the lore and I don’t care about the hobby side of it” and “Warhammer is just to expensive for me, I don’t have the money after bills to afford GW’s prices.” Hell, some of them even 3d printed their own armies because they loved the game but just couldn’t justify the price.

@@jkdragonjk6895 yes because hobbying and actually building an army and playing is a significant time investment. Much, much more so than a money investment. There’s always going to be more secondaries than hobbyists because it’s an incredibly niche interest and a large commitment. Listening to lore videos, or playing a video game is easy to do, compared to putting together a 2k army… which can easily be HUNDREDS of hours of work. That’s why most people, including myself, start as lore fans.. and then they decide if the hobbying is for them or not. The same way there’s always going to be way more LotR fans who watched the Peter Jackson movies and listen to lore videos in their free time than people who have read the books cover to cover. I don’t think we should edit out parts of the books and make them easier to read just to get more movie fans into the books. We can let the movie fans be movie fans, and let the book fans be book fans.

@@jkdragonjk6895 maybe those people exist, but I just think they’re incredibly rare, and we probably should make decisions primarily with the majority in mind. If someone has 30 hours of free time to build and paint a combat patrol, but doesn’t want to spend 130$ for it… that just seems like a consumer preference rather than some kind of failure on GWs part. That’s like 5$ per hour of hobby time, for some perspective let’s compare it to other hobbies… golf, skiiing, woodworking, 3D printing… all of which are more, or close to the same in cost. It’s really not that bad when you break it down that way, as most people are spending smaller amounts of money over months if not years… but sometimes the internet likes to think they can’t get into the hobby if they don’t have 800$ for a full 2k point army on day one. Whereas if someone I knew was interested in the hobby, I could get them started for 50$ to see if they even like it. Just pick up some models on eBay for a Kill Team/Warcry band, some paints, and 3$ brush pack. Now they have 10 hours of hobby time to see if they even like it… and can start playing immediately with free rules to see if they like the gaming aspect. Ezpz

GW operates with enforced artificial scarcity combined with what we now know as mobile gaming strategy (FOMO, sunk cost fallacy, etc). How else do you think they can charge 100 dollars and up for about 1 dollar of polystyrene sprues, literally the cheapest form of plastic. Notably the diamond industry does the same thing. We might not want to think about it like this, but all GW is missing is Gacha mechanics, and when you consider the random nature of rebalancing it kind of has that too.

I wonder if that is one of the things killing them and driving their prices up. If a release is received poorly such as a new edition of a game or box set, it's going to to be the store front that suffers the most because they ONLY sell GW product, whereas a FLGS can absorb the hit because they sell other games too.

Not illegal if your not selling it :) help your friends too, just ask for some printing resin once in a while, all kosher. Spread the word too if you can, GW needs to take a step back and humble itself, or collapse.

GW considers themselves in the same business as Gucci. They don’t want to make things cheaper to let the poors play the game too. They look at themselves as a top end eclectic product, and lowering their 30% profit margins would be worsening them in that regard. It’s the same reason they don’t want you playing games in their stores. Just buy your overpriced crap and get out. Can’t let people have fun. That’s not profitablez

Its pretty bad all around but the consumer really doesnt see or understand the situation in alot of cases sadly.

Nah, I know this is a controversial topic but thats why I started 3d printing my figures for my home games. id argue my 8k resin printer makes better quality than GW any day for a third of the cost. This means I cant play in official tournaments and the purists will be salty but who cares. Im done with the drama. Im done with the price gouging, im done with the scarcity minuplation of their products. All I need from GW is their codex and rulebook and even that is hardly done correctly. I love tabetop wargameing but I wont put up with this crap anymore. At least when GW released metal models the price was semi justified.

I came into Warhammer more recently (couple years) and was absolutely infatuated, but it was like a revolving door as soon as I stepped in a stepped out, I'll paint my 3rd party models that are cooler and in true scale rather than spend 10x on a company and product that is just terrible. I wanted to support the stores and gw I went often to my store but now there is no point, I can't even get into the lore because they just ruin it and change it anyways, so what's the point ? 40k is lost AOS is corny, HH is basically the only hope in terms of cool models, cool community and minimal messing with lore, till that becomes more popular and they mess it up too. Like who are you trying to sell stuff to ? Who actually wants all this far out representation ? "It's always been satire" now it's a parody of a parody and came full circle to real panderance and not trying to be sceptical or parady anything. So if it's not parading the B's in our society it's just buying into it and following along FAT L

Too late for many. I've seen a lot of local gamers either leave 40k completely or continue 40k with 3D printed models. Two people in my local group have bought printers in the last month, and OPR games have increased to almost as many as "proper 40k", compared to almost zero a year ago.

@@Daemonik Oh, they absolutely should've started this 5 years ago, at least. Just IMO, I think we'll get to a point where '3D printed' and 'GW manufactured' will reach an equilibrium, and the onus is on GW to grow enough that they remain a viable business when that point comes.

@@Secretgeek2012 The only advantage that gw have currently is the model stranglehold for "official" events, it's not like they even allow games in their stores. The stores are actually a loser for them, they just do it almost as a marketing expense, or as an investment in local scenes to give newcomers a place to play and learn. People complain about local stores closing… but then they go buy online anyway because it’s cheaper and more convenient. Personally I try to buy local when I can, and I’ll gladly pay a little extra for that.. but I can’t blame someone who doesn’t.
