@@rory8182 Whenever something is retconned to push a political agenda in a fantasy story I have an issue with it. Can't imagine why you wouldn't. Retcons themselves are annoying and bad I agree. But we can accept it if it's done well and makes sense. Plenty of examples of that. This isn't a case of a needed retcon done well though.

To be fair, the claim is that Cavill is to blame by a few layers of separation. Him speaking out about the show apparently caused them to rush a deal and that deal was used to twist GW's arm into adding female custodes. At least, that's their claim. I do not believe this for a second, though. There is zero logical reason for why Cavill saying a show is being worked on should have made GW scramble to finalize a deal.

I went to Japan and ended up in a Warhammer shop, I knew of it. My buddy just started collecting and was trying to get me to get some figures. I was hesitant because it seemed a little nerdy and painting that small was foreign too me. I looked in that shop for 15 secs browsing and the the owner came up to me and just started talking about his favorite models he's painted and shows off his massive array of models, he said "you want to try?" a bit of a language barrier but google translate was working its magic. So I tried a paint trial. Ended up loving it and talked about lore for another 30 min, he then said he wanted to gift me a small starter set and a model holder, I told him to save the starter set for later and bought the bigger starter pack (kept the model holder lol). I sat down at the bench and started reading the booklet inside and IMMEDIATLEY 4 people came up to me and asked "just starting?" one from Germany, Austria, Finland, and even a Russian, (Im from US) All of them immediately started talking about different units, species, timelines and the amount of lore the Warhammer universe has. The community is one of the most friendly I've ever seen. Everyone plays a bad guy so they know its all for fun. Now with almost finishing the starter set I think much more will be on the way. Thanks to Tokyo Warhammer store and its owner!

As a woman; my first experience with Warhammer was just before Corona. I entered the store looking for a new hobby. The moment I entered I was encountered with nothing but friendlyness. They explained the hobby to me and told me about the book. I love sci-fi and when they told me about the books and the best way to start getting into the lore was to read the Horus Heresy. So that day I left the store with a starter pack of Space Marines, brushes, a White Dwarf magazine and a the audiobook of Horus Rising. I drowned myself in the lore and started watching all the KZread videos of mini painters. All I saw in this hobby was passion from the people and that's how I always experienced it. I'm also a gamer since I was little and of course sometimes you encounter the nasty people online, but that is also a small percentage we are talking about. I think men are getting demonized a lot of times in this hobby and in gaming, while I experience nothing but kindness from them most of the times. Willing to explain and help. I think it's all about your own attitude and mindset. I love the Warhammer lore, it's amazing, it's a beautiful grey area of good and evil. I think adding romance to it, ruins it, for that you have fanfiction or pick up a romance novel, or even better go out and get your own romance going. Then female custodes, what to say bout that... let's be honest, it was just a broherhood. The sister of silence were the "female" custodes and GW did them dirty. So much lore and models you could have added to them with the new release. We also have amazing range of strong females in Warhammer overall, with strong lore and beautiful and interesting books to support them, like the Sisters of Battle. We don't need female Custodes. We don't need real life politics in the hobby. I want to escape reality, not being confronted with it in my hobby. I think these type of "movements" just split men and women even more instead of pulling them together and enjoy something together.

I've never understood *any* of this; I was a girl who was into things like the Phantom comics since I was like 8 - never once did I think any of my areas of interests should change because of my gender -- this has all just gotten so much worse, & it's just ridiculous -- _why_ are these people so moronic? I'm hoping they **don't** have as much power in the adaptation (God forbid we end up with a new Rongs of Plop situation) -- & I truly hope that the adaptation isn't wrecked, by all the outside sh^t - I really do want Henry to have a win...

Sure, when I was a kid my best friend's sister played Sisters of Battle with us and there was that. And all this lore change for what, to have the same generic strong woman stereotype we already had in every other franchise ever ? They want the character not religious, so not imperial... superhuman so not Guard... why not Eldar then ?? Or Tau battlesuit commander ?... Sisters of Silence are an awesome idea too, because their silence would make interactions strictly non-verbal, so it would at least be something different that we have rarely seen. Nah, they just want the bland female action hero stereotype. 40k is too characterful for them.

You say that but GW just had this treatment done the Bretonnian Knights in The Old Worlds most recent novelization. Only men could be Knights until Lords of the Lance released. Back in high school in the 90's me and my (guy) friends were into video games, tabletop miniature games like 40k, comic books, etc. Despite that, we weren't stereotypical geeks. We did sports like water polo, swimming, soccer and track, we were honor students in the best gifted program in the state and we had driver's licenses and our own cars. We weren't football stars, but we were far from being losers. AND YET whenever we brought up our hobbies the girls would all immediately check out of the conversation and look at us like we were the most pathetic creatures in existence. And if you mentioned that you played, or were even interested in, D&D you'd instantly become a pariah. Back then girls would walk past hobby/game stores and look at them like they were open septic tanks. So whenever I see these women claiming that video games, or TTRPGs, or comic books or any other facet of geek culture was suuuuuper important to their childhood I can only say "Bull. Shit."

I have canceled my Warhammer plus subscription because of this shit I will not be paying games workshop unless this is changed.

If they actually know some lore, I bet their problem is that the Sororitas are even more zealous for the Emperor than a lot of other Imperial factions. And in their minds, they think it's the game saying that women are more emotional and less rational. But COME ON! There's all sorts of zealous crazy people in 40k. Aren't the Grey Knights pretty over-the-top? How about certain inquisitors? It ain't just the Sisters, sister!

I just really feel bad for Cavill at this point. He really wants to make a good show based on the things he really love (IE: The Witcher and now WH40k.). But he always ends up getting the bad end of the stick. I wouldn't be surprised if changed his main army to Lamenters at this point.

God that checklist on how women are "suppose to be represented" was so insufferable that it's probably true.

Truth. Even if 3d printers weren't widely available, there are still craftsmen out there who could make the replicas for a nominal fee.

These people aren't real. I've been in these spaces for over 20 years as a woman and the worst I've experienced is no worse than I've seen men act to one another. You can't go into a fandom of millions and not expect to find some inappropriate behaviour somewhere. It's literally impossible. Time and time again I've seen my likes and hobbies changed to make them more inclusive, even for my own gender and without fail it worsens them. Every. Single. Time. Never stop gatekeeping. Do not give even a single inch to these self-centered, self-righteous people.

No. The fact that it was going to become a TV was going to be a big L for fans whether Henry Cavill was producing it or not. When I learned that 40k was going to have a show made by amazon the only thing i thought was, "oh great rings of power in a war torn future." and when someone said Henry Cavill was producing it, my response was "I have nothing against the guy, but he's one person against forces bigger than himself." Anyone who thought that the presence of Cavill was going to keep the show true to lore was only fooling themselves. Never ever give something you love to places like Hollywood, it'll just get warped into something you'll hate later.

I think the leak was done by GW to shift the blame to Amazon. Would Amazon want to force lady custodes, yes, but GW has gone on records many times saying they want to bring more diversity and inclusion, so I don’t think there was any arm twisting. I think GW saw their opportunity and went for it. I genuinely believe this "games journalist" lady just straight up made up her story. I was BRAND NEW to the hobby last December and EVERY SINGLE game shop I visited without question was honestly stoked that I was interested and gave me everything I needed and was super helpful and encouraging and nice. I literally can't even imagine the situation she described happening in a real life Warhammer shop.

Good, let the franchise burn while we support other smaller creators who clearly respect their fanbase. There will always be something else to fill in the void, you just need to look for it, or wait for it to appear. Look at the collapse of these franchises as an opportunity rather than a loss, and better, more well thought out works of fiction will fill in the niche of what once was. Who knows, maybe you might be the one to create something better.

@@kaidrazarc8000 what I mean is GW made the rules so shit at one point that it lead to a boycott of the hobby and it nearly cost the company and this was before 5th I think so it was not super long ago so they know of they are not careful it could lead to that again I was not saying this has not been an issue or is all I am saying is that GW should know more could piss off the core fans who keep them running

I call bs on blaming Cavill. GW has been in this route for years now.

I've listened to the first 9 minutes of this video, and all I can say is: AMEN! There is so much common-sense and clear-sighted, spot-on analysis in this which so clearly explains what's wrong with people like this journalist, Abigail, and her like-minded control-freaks of the Woke mob of people not capable of just loving and creating, but only of hating and destroying. The explanations here are so apt and so fitting that it's like gospel! Especially 5:26 to 8:53. Thank you for these so clear, clear words and for describing so clearly what's going on with these people and what's wrong with it!

The crazy thing is that it will start by brute forcing female space marines in the lore, which no one will likes, then they will come out with the models, that no one will buy, then they will call us all bigots and fly away to go and scar another franchise.

Female space marines are not even an issue if they retcon, the reason they are retconning them is the issue. If GW one day said we are gonna take steps to change that women can't be space marines because it doesn't make sense that they can't, so we are just gonna make it so the chance of them surviving it is lower. They found out the reason there weren't any female space marines were just because the chance of survival was lower but that's not the case anymore. Because the way we make space marines have been updated since the beginning and the chance of survival is about the same. Some version of that change it up so it's more lore accurate and I'd be fine with it. DEI isn't a good reason to change it. I love warhammer, I love the estetic of the 40k world, I have not yet delved in to any Lore, I prefer Warhammer Fantasy more. But I have played some Warhammer 40k games and they are great fun. I have watched all the animated movies and such. So I say this not knowing if it makes any sense lore wise.

I'm reminded of a series called 'Claymore'. In it, there is a group of women warrios known as Claymores, who had monster dna spliced into them in order to make them strong enough to fight other monsters. In that universe, only women can become claymores, men usually dont survive the process or completely turn into monsters or something like that (it was an early 2000s possibly late 90s manga that i only gave a passing glance so i dont know all the details). If that series was introduced today, you can bet there'd be an uproar if they tried to introduce 'male claymores' into the mix.

A great manga and good anime till they made up their own ending cause the manga wasn't done yet. Yes, the back story is originally there were male Claymores but they all "Awakened" and turned into monsters, some females do as well but they're more stable.
