I agree with you guys, collecting for GameCube is crazy right now. But to play devils advocate, to buy a ps5 is $500, and games are $60-$70 each (which will not hold their value). So I suppose it’s about perspective. GameCube is way more expensive to collect for than ps2, but still cheaper (and arguable more fun) than playing current gen!

I know you’re playing devil’s advocate but those really are apples to oranges. Yeah, if you buy PS5 games on launch, they are expensive. But if you wait just a few months, you can often either get them for half the price or they’ll show up on Game Pass.

Something to consider: The GameCube is more valuable than others because it appealed to a younger demographic - more so than the PS2 and Xbox. Therefore, many people playing/collecting GameCube were much younger, whereas college students/adults were more the market for Xbox and PS2 back in the day. As such, the adults moved on, but the kids from then are wanting to buy back their memories now. The age in which you played the games directly correlates to their value today. Fun episode guys, keep up the content!

It's b/c it was the better console. It had the controller the cube design, four player option, I think many games on it sucked personally, but they had a certain quality about them. The game cases were cooler also than PS2 and Xbox, (especially in Europe). I said at the time people will realise in the future the GC is better.

It’s always been shocking to me that the GameCube was underrated as much as it is. I grew up with the Indigo system when it was released. I had Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, Gale of Darkness, Spider-Man, Hulk, etc. They were always so fun to play. Sucks that after I moved out of my parents like 5 years back to live with my gf I ended up forgetting about it and they ended up moving and left it there. So I ended up buying the XD: Gale of Darkness version since Pokémon is my favorite franchise. Love the GameCube and glad it’s getting some popularity now.

The RetroWolf intro was perfect for this video. Also, Lady Laci loves the GC for the handle and the tiny discs. I've hard the smaller discs were supposed to help shut down piracy a bit more, maybe so, maybe no. It was weird though, for sure, not having any sort of DVD functionality. The online bit, I get that a little more--it was still pretty fresh to be getting online with consoles, but still, weird bit of timing. Woooo! Yeah, show off that Spice Orange GC boo-yeah!!! The Wavebird is such an incredible controller--we always keep an eye out for them, so we'll have you boys in mind. GameBoy Player is the bomb! Nintendo needs to do something like this for DS & 3DS games now! One of our favorite things about GC now--is having a Zelda game to look forward to working on with you guys next time we're together! Twin Snakes is soooo good! I loved what they did with it and still enjoy it and the original MGS. Ha ha--you used a clip from The Jerk! Nice! Agree that GC pricing has gotten sooo out of control...I think part of it is the age range of those who grew up with it--they're recapturing that childhood--BUT it's also the "oddball" out of that generation. I think this will work in the favor of making PS2 and Xbox more collectible as focus shifts to those systems because the GC is too niche and too pricey.

I was an early adopter of the GameCube. I was torn between all 3 consoles at the time. My favorite game at the time was Resident Evil on the PS1, so when I saw the remaster and it was a GameCube exclusive, I had to buy it first. I was seen as the weirdo out of all my friends and I remember being ridiculed for being a GameCube fan in the old GamePro forums lol. People would call it the "kidcube" "crapcube" and other ridiculous stuff. I eventually bought all 3, but the GameCube definitely has a special place in my game room. Great videos guys!

I own a small collection of games and am still hunting for better deals. Currently have Mario Sunshine, Double Dash, Mario Goof, Odami, Chibi Robo, Def Jam Figgt for NY and some other titles. Also have my Dreamcast (I bought on release date). Find the most expensive system and collecting is with the Sega Saturn. Finding a system at around $150. Got my GameCube back in the day (Zelda pack-in) and have huge nostalgia for it. It’s an amazing console but I 100% agree that it’s not worth it, especially because of the amazing deal elsewhere. As you say, if you want Nintendo, collect for the Wii U. If you want 6th gen, collect for the OG Xbox and PS2. Incredible deals to be had on all three systems (though OGX is seeing price creep and may take off soon). But if you do collect, Rebel Strike is the absolute must buy. You get the base game (great flying levels mixed with crappy on foot levels) you get almost all of Tough Leader to play in couch co-op, you get the three arcade games s unlockables AND you get the single greatest corporate splash screen in gaming history.

I don’t collect, but I trust my instincts so I’m triple dipping on my Switch and doubling and tripling down on Digital Games (the Bethesda Shooters primarily) so that I have some form of _hard copy_ of the games that I love. It’s not for collecting purposes, it’s for future proofing. This was fun. Nice energy! Great Stuff!

Freaking fantastic video guys! Although that freak rubbing on GameCube games in your intro was a bit odd hehehe. It makes me incredibly sad that the GameCube is so damn expensive and hard to collect collect because when you start really digging into the library like I have been you start to realize that the GameCube had an AMAZING library of games all around with some great variety. Not to the level of the PS2 of course but damn there are so many hidden gems on the Cube! Maybe one day thr prices will come back down...but sadly I don't think they will. I see the GameCube going the route of the Sega Saturn. Which makes me very happy I completed my collection when I did although I do still have some Manuals to track down. This was about three years ago or so when FM was just starting up. Then I think I few months after that I walked into a thrift store and ended up buying a bunch of games for dirt cheap about 3 bucks a piece and these were from someone who took great care of there stuff as the cases and manuals and inserts were mint. That is so interesting to me, I wonder if the gamecube had certain demographics. Back around 2002-2004 in Tampa, FL, almost everyone I knew had a gamecube and that was a LOT of people. I hung out mostly with nerds and goths (still do). They typically had the Gamecube in Indigo and outside of Super Smash Bros. the Mario games weren't very popular with them. They mostly played the Resident Evil series, Time Splitters series, Eternal Darkness, Zelda series, Soul Calibur, Viewtiful Joe and a lot of the cross-platform stuff. It's just funny because I always hear that hardly anyone knew someone with a Gamecube but my circle back then could have easily expanded out to probably 60-70 lowballed people because Tampa was just like that back then and lots of them had Gamecubes.

I dont have one hooked up currently, as I use the Wii to play Gamecube games via Componet and 480p. Those damned Nintendo GC Componet cables are still priced like they are made of Bigfoots pubic hair, so the Wii is the easy way to play those games on a modern tv and still look decent. I have the GBA player and disc, but now there are "other" ways to play GBA games on the big screen now. But I love the Gamecube game library and still play them regularly. Good video as usual!

I believe the Gamecube did come in multiple colors on launch, actually. I went to KB Toys to buy mine at the time and ended up with a black one. I still think it's worth collecting for these days. Most of the games are still not too bad in terms of price. Yeah, the super coveted games are pricey, but like there are plenty of games below $30 that are a lot of fun on the system. Soul Calibur II comes to mind.

I must have been the freak exception. I grew up with NES and had all the major consoles growing up. I remembering owning a N64 and wanting to play FF7 so badly that I meet this guy too buy his PSX in a super shady deal while I was still in middle school. I did get caught by the same bug to get a PS2 like everyone else once I even HEARD about GTA3 (I had actually played GTA2 but this transition to 3D sound nuts). Through it all, though, I have always kept my love for Nintendo. So my first credit card purchase I ever made during my freshmen year was to buy a Gamecube. It was the strange little system that I wasn’t quite sure what the big N’s plan was with it but I sure had all the big releases. So I have had around 20-30 Gamecube games traveling around with me for years. In fact, it wasn’t until Nintendo released the Wii U that I stopped buying every home console by Nintendo (though now I own two Wii U’s but that’s a whole other story).

I completely agree that it is just stupid to try and start to collect for the Gamecube right now. For us average gamers that just want to play the games, it's irritating that there is people out there that just buy games to place on a shelf and stare at them. I know you guys don't do that because you routinely go through what you play or don't play. A couple things to note though. Spice orange controller was available in US. It's not rare if someone tries to tell you that. Most accessories are dirt cheap through Japan. Currently, the Gamecube player can be purchased for cheap without the disk. There is a memory card you can purchase to boot from a select amount of games to be able to play the Gameboy games. Which is awesome. For the Gamecube prices overall, they seemed to have gone up when the more recent HDMI adapters came out. If I tried to play through composite to any HD TV, the Gamecube looks like straight garbage. I personally have the EON Mk II and the Retrotink. I prefer to play using the S-Video through the Retrotink though. It just looks better to me. It's just great that there is actual options for everyone but with a price.

I preordered my original black Gamecube with Resident Evil from GameStop for release day. However, I don't remember getting it until Spring of 2002. I bought most of my games new, and only have a handful of titles for it. I am so glad I was able to pick up the Game Boy Player with boot disc at a pawn shop about a decade ago, as the price of the disc alone is outrageous! Anyway, aside from Super Mario Sunshine, I got most of the games I want for the system, and with prices the way they are, I don't plan on picking up anymore very soon. I'm putting most of the money I have for games on releases for the Switch, as I've started to see an uptick in some of the more obscure titles coming to that system, which is the type of genre I am most interested in currently.

I already own a GameCube Nintendo, but for those that do not, the system and many of it’s games have aged pretty well except for the fact that you’ll mostly be playing in 4:3 screen aspect ratio (unfortunately). I’ll add that if it weren’t for me picking up a GCN around the time it launched, NO ONE in my household would be playing it. My cousins/friends moved on to XBOX for Halo multiplayer online and PlayStation 2 for Capcom releases and Grand Theft Auto series. It’s funny how back then, just about everyone thought it wasn’t cool to own/play Nintendo games, but nowadays, between the Sega Dreamcast, PS2, XBOX, and GCN, the GCN is the one system whose game prices are rising quickly and has the most overall interest.

I play a lot of Gamecube games, but I play them on my Wii even though I do have an actual Gamecube. The reasons are: 1) The Wii has inexpensive HDMI adapters available so the picture looks better than composite or component. 2) The Wii can be modded to play games from a USB drive with no need to actually put a disc in to play a game. 3) The Wii is a more powerful system than the GC was.

Since I've collected for it throughout almost two decades, from scraping my last money to buy my first secondhand tv console, to spendingbway too much on game collecting, to now having stopped my collecting nearly entirely, I've almost built up a complete 16 player Double Dash setup (just missing the extra tv's)... that sits in my old room back at my moms house while I live in a cabin in the forest with just my Switch.

Eh, My original GC that I got brand new was a silver that came bundled with Metroid Prime, though I got it in Canada. Also have the BBA & the GBA adapter for it. I spent a LOT of time playing PSO online back in the day. Another game I really enjoyed was the Wind Waker/OoT bundle that I still have. Wavebirds are sick but I don't own any, my friend has at least 6 that we used to use at his place while playing like Mario Kart or Smash on his parent's massive projector screen. Bonus: My GC has been thrown down a flight of stairs and shot with a bb gun, no issues.

GameCube is amazing console. I love the tiny little cube. I have still some great titles that I got when they released back in the day but was able to score some in the last couple years for decent prices.. I got Star Wars Rougue titles for $5 each at a convention back in 2019 just to give ya an idea on prices now.

I'm new to your channel and I just like to say .....GREAT!!! Advice .....the Gamecube is insanely too too expensive for used games and console's period.....I do hope that within 2 years or so that it will calm down.......please keep up the great work and stay safe:)

I bought a Gameboy Player without disc at a convention for about $30-40. Then I bought an Action Replay DVD which was probably another $30. Throw in a memory card SD adapter, and you can play Gameboy Player for significantly less using the Gameboy Interface homebrew software. GBI is updated frequently to this day and it's technically better than the official software. With this setup, you unlock all homebrew options on top of that via Swiss, which boots from the Action Replay menu. This method isn't for purist collectors but overall it's the best bang for your buck. Throw in a SD2SP2 instead of the Memory card adapter and boom: same functionality without wasting a memory card slot.

Very interesting. We are pretty novice in that realm but have always found it interesting. We have hacked our Wii and classic console but that's the extent of it. We're kinda stuck in the old school way lol. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!

I used to love playing Gauntlet: Dark Legacy on the GameCube as a kid and somewhere along the way I lost my copy. Out of curiosity I checked eBay for some CIB listings and just about shat my pants at the prices.

I remember buying my first GameCube for $20 brand new the day the Wii was released. Sears or some department store was trying to unload them.

To confirm yes you can buy the orange controller I have 1. Only recent gamecube games I've brought were the SSX games. I was itching to play those during the winter.
