    For a future Game Theory, how about calculating the speed of Kirby's Warp Star? You could use Kirby's height from his Melee trophy description (8 inches) and measure framerates in the classic games. If you REALLY wanted to go in-depth, you could calculate the speed needed to escape Dark Star's explosion at the end of Kirby 64, by calculating Zero Two's size, use E = mc^2 to see how much energy could be stored in Zero's mass, then convert that energy into megatons.

    Adam Broad Well, hey, that's what the show's about, isn't it? hobo jam I could if I had the time, but I'd like Game Theory to do it because they'd likely do it better. Plus, they make a living off of it. I was giving them a suggestion (calculate the Warp Star's speed), then backing it up (telling them how they could do it so they have evidence to work with).

    Oh man, I can't believe the Jump Start series wasn't on here! Those were some of my favorite games growing up! Like the Dr. Brain series, it quizzed you on a wide assortment of topics like math, history, art, science. But these games tailored it to your respective grade level so you could not only grow with the series, but even get a leg up! Having trouble with third grade math? Pop in Jump Start 3rd Grade. Want to prepare for the next year? Go Jump Start 4th Grade! And similar to the Junior Adventure series, they each featured a unique art style and dare-I-say plot to them that made them enjoyable to fun. I just wish those games were my tests instead of the pen-and-paper standard.

  • @LogoFreak93

    On that note, this might sound crazy but Pokemon could be considered a somewhat educational game series if it's not taken too literally. It teaches kids how to care for their pets and their evolution is a metaphor for the pet growing up. Also it teaches kids about the reality of death through Lavender Town, which might be why so many of our generation was afraid of it. But it's only a theory, A GAME THEORY.

  • @BigKlingy

    @BigKlingy

    10 жыл бұрын

    Eh, if Pokemon teaches kids how to care for their pets, it also teaches kids that having their pets fight their friends' pets is okay. So I don't think that part should really be taken seriously. I do think that it is educational on the level that most Pokemon are based off real life animals, which broadens kids knowledge. Seriously, who knew about Sea Angels until they saw Manaphy? Some of the Pokemon also teach basic bilological concepts, like how Slowbro and Shellder are an example of Symbiosis. As for Lavender Town.... ugh, I fing that place overrated, honestly. So many genwunners with "Nostalgia goggles" make it out to be so much darker than it actually is. Sure it's darker than most stuff in RBY, but here's the thing: did any kids even realise? Most of it would have gone over their heads. I know when I was a kid, the only reason I was scared of Lavender Town was the music. I'm sure that's the case for many others of our generation. The point being, if you compare Lavender Town to a game that has the reality of death as an explicit theme (I'm thinking Persona 3 here, anyone who's played it will know what I mean) you'll realise they're very different. Lavender Town is more about showing how bad Team Rocket is, really. Here's my theory: if they really wanted Lavender Town to explicityly be about teaching kids the reality of death, it wouldn't be the Marowak that died. It's be ONE OF THE PLAYER'S POKEMON. That would certainly work, though it'd be pretty harsh.

    Does anyone remember an educational game that took place in Egypt and followed a group of kids as they solved what I remember being mostly math based games. I remember counting jewels, there was some orange hair girl with braids that I had a crush on as a kid, and it ended up with them fighting lava and traps in a temple or pyramid or something. ( they had several games, I most vividly remember the eygiptian one)

    I actually kind of consider the older generation Final Fantasy games educational games as they are the reason I learned to read as fast as I do now. Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, etc. All of those games where all the dialog was text based and forced you to read as fast as you possibly could so that you could continue the game. What's more is that since they weren't actually educational games then the fact that they forced you to learn speed reading and comprehension was even more amazing.

    We tried using Carmen SanDiego to teach kids with ADHD who have learning disabilities geography, but at the end of the year, they still couldn't remember the names of half the states. They would continue to use the atlas for questions they'd been through several times. The information stuck about as well as throwing horseshoe magnets at glass; it would either bounce off or go through without sticking.

    Educational games? Man has this channel gone to the shitter. What happened to weekly theories? Now a days you might post twice a month. We demand more favorable content and a weekly episode. If I wanted culture, I would visit gg's channel, so quit posting his video on your channel so you don't have to do this weeks episode. You know what I'm talking about.

    I disaggree with this somewhat. All of these are edutainment games, meaning games that were specifically and obviously designed to teach something to someone. What's more interesting in my mind and much much more effective in my experience are games that don't hit you over the head with trying to teach you something, but basically just happen to teach you something while you are having fun playing them. Personally i have learned an incredible amount about geography from Paradox grand strategy games like EU 4 or CK 2 and i doubt i would have spent nearly as much time and learned nearly as much in "Where in the world is Carmen sandiego".
