I love the franchise but no where near as much as the 1st one. There is a huge dip in quality after the 1st 2 or 3. They're still fun though.

This movie came out when I was 15, and it's all anyone would talk about, so I ignored everything about it because I was a douchey-hipster girl that didn't want to participate in anything "mainstream". Now that I'm 34, I would like to punch my teenage self for turning me into an anti-hipster as an adult (when someone starts liking stuff AFTER it's cool). Love your deep-dives, I'm so friggen excited for this two-parter 👏

Lol aw man, I've been there. I used to avoid currently popular stuff too and would think later why did I wait so long on this. I like to find things in my own time but I loved Saw when it came out because it just hit me at the right age and right time.

Thanks for all your hard work and a really great video. Saw was such a simple premise, 2 guys locked in a single grimy room, like reservoir dogs which was essentially a few thieves bickering in an empty warehouse, but both films work brilliantly. And the moment when kramer sits up. ......just as shocking as when michael sits up at the end of halloween and scotty at the end of evil dead. Have just been watching your truly horror on jaws, great video, in preparation for working through all my shark movies from jaws to the meg!

Amazing dedication as always Sarah. I have a huge love for the Saw franchise. Definitely in my top 5. Although I do think the quality of the films drops after the fourth entry, 5 and 6 are still great. We just wont mention 'Saw: The Final Chapter' or 'Jigsaw'.

Really looking forward to the next episode. Also something to consider, if you've seen the batman (the most recent one) the Riddler has some jigsaw vibes. But I never knew Carey was a massive supporter of James and Leigh at the start. That's incredible to find out.

@@whatthehorror Hands down having a fairly big actor supporting and loving their work even at the early preproduction stage is what any writer or director needs at the start of their career. Oh and I would have loved to be in the same room as Tobin Bell when he got to the end part of the script. Actually still one of my favourite twists in all cinema.

@@whatthehorror Yes maybe wait for Saw X! I just think people write off the Saw sequels the same way they do the Hellraiser ones and it always transpires they've only seen one or two to base their opinions on. Some of the later Saw movies have better character studies than the original one IMO. I'm a huge Hellraiser fan too if you get the urge to do another deep dive at some point :)

I had no idea how this movie had come about so I really did learn a lot. It's left me wondering though, at what point did they decide on a whole franchise? Was that after filming the movie and then writing the next 6 movies in a way that would tie them all together ?
