GAME OVER BALLARD: HOMELESS CRISIS OUT OF CONTROL IN THIS

A few more days to go until the August 1 primary in Seattle. Sunday afternoon, I went to check in on the homeless crisis exploding in Councilmember Dan Strauss'(
@CMDanStrauss
) hood. Strauss remains vulnerable in District 6 and is fighting for his political life.
I assumed he would have figured out a way to clear some of the tents for the sake of optics. Instead, Leary Way NW is a wreck. I have never seen so many tents lined on this street. The side streets are pretty bad as well. You can walk to all 38 tents in a matter of minutes. I'm not even counting the dozens of RV's and structures. Just the tents!
Based on what I'm seeing, Strauss has clearly thrown in the towel on homelessness in Ballard. No end in sight. He's hoping his constituents don't notice. 🙃
Also, is the King County Regional Homelessness Authority(
@KingCoRHA
) still operational? What do they do again?
Unfortunately the fentanyl use remains rampant, trash is out of control, and some drug addicts hurled racial slurs in my direction. It's so annoying when they can't even get the racism right. BTW, I'm Korean American and not from CHYNA.🤣🤡
Otherwise, most of the campers here remain pretty chill. One guy let me watch him open boosted packs of Pokemon(
@Pokemon
) cards. For the true collectors, dude somehow found multiple packs of Evolving Skies in the wild. Rare find. 😀#Seattle#Ballard#homelessness#homeless#Fentanyl#Pokemon

    It’s time to take our country back. The best way to do that would be to quit paying taxes. They can’t jail everyone. If 100 million checks players quit paying taxes that would send a serious message. One small example of a rogue government: we sent a truckload of money to Pakistan for gender studies.

    Well I've been in the psych ward about 13 times & the conclusion I have come to is, give the permanently homeless a break. I used to only give homeless people food out of principle. Now I give them cash, cash that I had to labor for. That cash is most likely to buy a pair of socks or a loaf of bread. It might buy their next fix, that's not my choice. I am long term homeless as well, & don't expect to escape it. Homeless people are people, even if they have an addiction. They have basic unfulfilled human needs. We can ignore their lazy ass, or do something. I would rather do something, not pray for them.

We all have kill switches in our cars, and don’t even bother calling the police when it happens anymore because it’s useless. We see more outreach to these people than police, and quite frankly it’s enabling them. Almost daily a group sets up a buffer table to feed these people.. Addicts won't use them, too difficult to get up and go to one when they can just mess where they sit. If the site is already clean and tidy they don't need them cause they have already sorted it out. The clean tent sites should be helped into some kind of housing, they appear able to handle the responsibility, I'd bet they have income and could pay rent if there was something available in their budget. Addicts don't want rules or order or anything like that if they have to contribute. They don't want to be clean, tidy or organized, they don't want to keep it down when others are sleeping, they don't want to pay for or maintain properly anything they use, in short they are unable to live with any but their own until they get themselves clean. I'm out of patience with that sort. The working homeless that try to keep their civility have all my sympathy. Low income housing, mental health and recovery programs are needed, not free meals and syringes.

    That happened in Portland, as you likely know. The city settled and agreed to clear sidewalks. Seattle should do it before the taxpayers are forced to pay for city officials to defend finding drug addicts more important than people with disabilities. Allowing these tents hinders everyone's freedom of movement because many people, especially women, are going to feel too unsafe to walk near the tents. A decent citizen is going to get hit by a car because s/he walked in the street to give the tents a wide berth.

The city might have a empty lot that's far away from the public so the homeless could sleep and only sleep. The rules would be enforced such as getting up by 10 am and then leaving the lot by 12:30 pm or perhaps 1 pm. No excessive garbage to be left around,no drug's or alcohol. Enforcing anything else such as getting treatment or a job might be to tall of order though. No entry if they been drinking. Everyone assigned a chore like kitchen duty(breakfast, lunch, dinner). Lights out by midnight. Up by 8am. Proof they are looking for a job ( sign off on paperwork by interviewer). 90% of the homeless wont do it. They wanna steal to pawn items and buy drugs\alcohol. Wanna sit around in groups and share their drugs for other drugs and not do anything else. The other 10% are grateful to have anplace to stay and eat and wanna get on their feet. But most living illegally in these tent cities just wanna get high and be left alone by normal society. Living and doing drugs in front of businesses, homes, and school bus stops.

If a homeless man is laying face down in the street in the city, both Democrats and Republicans will just step over him. Now place that same homeless man in a small town and both will be more likely to help him.

    @@bonedaddy7297 I am sorry this isn't working for you. I cannot be of any help to you. The only way to make the significant portion of these people go to treatment would be to use force E.g. restrain and physically move them to a treatment facility. Unfortunately there is no legislative framework to facilitate this so the City cannot do anything. If you feel someone is presenting a risk to you or others please contact 911 and the police may be able to move them on if a crime has been committed.
