Actually there was a scene that was deleted where Sansa goes to Bran because she doesn't know what to do about Arya and he tells her that Littlefinger's manipulated her. Meaning that no, Sansa and Arya didn't fake their drama. It was only after Bran explained what was going on that they sorted their drama out.

  • @MDoorpsy

Well, the scene was deleted, so it never happened. Technically. I try to convince myself that maybe they were acting when Sansa found the faces because Littlefinger was listening in the hall. And, when he died, the reason they didn't do it sooner was because they needed the Knights of the Vale on their side. Doesn't make much sense, since the only reason to wait would be for proof... which they didn't provide. And, no, Brann's testimony doesn't count because we had never gotten a scene where it was clarified to the Lords that Brann is magic, when it really feels like he should have.

Daw there's a lot to get through and unfortunately only one more season, there was bound to be things you have to ignore to enjoy the show. While I agree the writing isn't as good as it used to be the show is still great. It's very hard to find the balance when they need to tie it up quickly. Only problem I had with the littlefinger scenario is we never got any explanation as to were the sisters fighting to keep up an act or did they sort their differences behind the scenes. Don't have a problem with his death it's quite fitting the one who has a plan for everything couldn't predict a boy who can see into the past and future, although he might still be alive if the theories are correct. Plot armour meh you know certain characters will always have it up to a certain point where anything is possible. Season 8 has reached that time

    1. ALLL THE YESSES!! He deserved a better death than that. All these years he’s been the most clever character, manipulating everyone thinking 10 steps ahead of him, but he gets it smarter by Sansa? Why? Because he’s in love? The Littlefinger we grew to low and love would have seen what was going on because the way everyone was being mean to him (I don’t know why since he just saved their lives!), and when Bran said “Chaos is a ladder” he should have known his days there are numbered. He should have taken his knights of the Vale back to the Eyrie and try to get cozy with Cersei again.

*Ways to improve Season 7:* - replace Ed Sheeran with Charles Stiles. Great celebrity cameo. "Hi Arya, I'm Charles Stiles I'm with a company called Mystery Diners" - replace the zombie bear with a zombie squatch - have Cersie kidnap T, and then have Jamie Foxx pursue her - make the White Walkers work with the Ghost of Yankee Jim - instead of a White Walker Dragon, have a White Walker Turkish Airlines Plane - have the White Walker yell "EVERYTHING THEY BUILT WILL FALL" when they destroy the wall - have Daenerys release the drone - have Cersei commit the biggest crime of all. Cheating on the cheesiest challenge That's it. I saved Game Of Thrones

GoT is one of those rare shows that really annoy both right and left leaning people. GoTs "look at how stoic we powerful women are" and "we can only be empowered by murdering people" brand of feminism is just so stupid. Yeah, fuck sewing, it's not like clothes matter when a fucking long winter is around the corner! Sansa isn't the empathetic girl who has to always make the best out of a horrible situation, no, she's super empowered and smirks while she kills people! Dany can't even use her facial muscles because emotions are for weak people. Stronk Brienne stronks through all the stronks. Skyler has an excellent point, Martin's books are far more progressive than whatever this floating turd of a show is, and the books manage to be that in a natural way that makes sense in the setting.

Personally, I can't stand how the show has done Euron. In the books, he's crazily mysterious and scary. His ship is named Silence (i think) because he has the tongues cut out of his entire crew. He's the only person to supposedly have sailed to old Valyria and returned - with artifacts, no less. These include a massive horn that supposedly can control dragons, covered with runes that glow, and with some kind of crazy magical power so great that it kills the person blowing the horn. But in the show, he's just hyperviolent, crude, and unapologetic. I mean, it's a fun character type, but it's a cliche character type and one that's nothing like the actual Euron Greyjoy character.

I am convinced that his casting and portrayal was merely intended as yet another slap in the face to those of us who have read the books. Most fora have Mads Mikkelsen as the top choice. I think season 5 was the worst. It won the Emmy because it had been overlooked seasons 1-4 and the awards wanted to make up. Season 5 sucked. How many times have actors (and directors) been awarded for later work after being overlooked in the past? Bogart won for African Queen in '51 but he should have won in '48 for Treasure of the Sierra Madre...Scorsese won for the Departed but he should have won for Raging Bull and Goodfellas.

George Martin thinks ahead and plans absolutely everything. He thinks about the end first so everything can be built up to that point and fit like a perfect puzzle. David and Dan write in the moment and it really shows in this season. They very obviously give in to their own impulses (fucking polar bear for example), and don't stop to think if it actually works and is well written. They're giving in to fan service and taking the easy route to get to the end point of GOT, where else George never does shit like that. The show is still good, it's so fucking clear they don't have his perfect framework to base it off anymore.

  • @rkrokberg

Much that made Arya and Tywin in season 2 work was the fact that both Maisie's and Dance's performances were stellar. If Charles Dance was the one to deliver the "bad possey" line, it would be amazing. Arya and Tywin in season 2 was pretty great, it's just a shame that Roose didn't get the character development he deserved before the Red Wedding. Simultaneously it's really nice that Tywin got more fleshed out in the series.

  • @rkrokberg

When it comes to Tywin, I think him being different in the show is fine, though seeing bookTywin in the show would have been more interesting. And book Roose. Now, if anyone is a coward, it's him. But yeah, I haven't rewatched seasons 1-4 since the show started to rapidly go downhill, so I might better see the cracks in those scenes now.

They can't just 'fucking wait for Winds of Winter", that's not how television works. Season 1: Robert Baratheon gets drunk and is mortally wounded by a boar. Ned Stark gets a limp after a duel injury. Season 6: Arya survives multiple stab wounds with the help of an actress/part-time surgeon and can pull off a parkour chase after a week or two. The Hound is left dying with wounds and broken bones in the middle of nowhere but is saved by random settlers with no long-term consequences. Season 7: Jon Snow survives an undead polar bear, army of zombies and drowning, gets saved by a deus ex machina character coming out of nowhere, somehow doesn't get hypothermia despite being completely wet in freezing cold for god knows how long and is perfectly fine the very next episode. Jamie avoids Drogon's flame without a single burned hair, then is dragged across a deep pond in full armor and with a metal hand without drowning.

Shawn N then they're crossing into Frey territory without their permission which is frankly insulting to them and can be viewed as a threat. No one would be mad if the Freys had attacked the Starks since they have an army going in their territory without asking or saying anything. Then there's the idea of building the bridge that is strong enough to hold thousands of pounds of armored soldiers, warhorses, siege equipment, weapons and other supplies. Where are you gonna get the materials? Are you just gonna start chopping down trees, the property of the Freys? Will you bring it down from the North? If so, who will cut the wood and transport it? Who will oversee the construction of the bridge? Is there an architect hanging around? Is there the proper equipment to build a bridge? What about the river currents? What if the Freys destroy the bridge as they're constructing it or crossing it? How much time is this gonna take? they're in a big time rush to get down south to King's Landing after all. It's quicker to just negotiate with Walder Frey to let them past; and since Catelyn is desperate to reach her family in King's Landing, as is Robb, she'll pretty much agree to anything. Walder could see this and used to his advantage to climb up in society, since he desires the respect that would come with being married to one of the seven major Houses in Westeros. It fits in with Catelyns character, a woman who wants to be reunited with her family that she'll do anything. She released Jaime because of it

Lemme put it as simply as possible: GoT was so good because it subverted fantasy drama tropes while still remaining pretty loyal to the genre and the original media. The reason GoT season 7 is so weak is because instead of continuing to subvert those tropes, it wholly indulges in them to the point of being vapid and toothless and predictable. That's not a good thing for a drama to be. And don't get me started on the plot holes of Season 7. Yes, I know some of you super-intelligent reddit contrarians are gonna come here and say "BUT THE PLOTHOLES AREN'T A BIG DEAL BRO" and to that I say "Sure they aren't, when they're few and far between. But when your episode is literally 1 hour of plot holes and conveniences, it starts to legitimately ruin the experience."

The sequence on the ice in episode 6 is one of the worst written sequences in the entire series. If I were Martin, and I were still consulting on the show, I'd demand the person who wrote that sequence be fired. Cool visuals aside, I felt like I was watching something written by an idiot. The walkers surround the group for hours when they could have crossed over the ice at any point and slaughtered everyone. I guess they were waiting for the ice to freeze, but you're going to tell me that the ice froze at that exact moment? Jon acts like a fucking dunce and continues fighting whites instead of getting on Drogon's back and escaping, a bit of stupidity that gets another Dragon killed. By the way, why didn't the Night King kill the largest dragon of the three who's also the only one not moving around? Jon is pulled under, yet somehow manages to escape and is conviently saved by Uncle Deus Ex Machina who rode in straight of the assholes of the writers. Then, since the writers were done with Uncle Deus Ex Machina, he decides to stay behind and get cut down in 5 seconds instead of escaping with Jon. What a great and memorable end to that character.

What's with the Deus Ex Machina teleportation of Jorah and Arya and others I've forgotten? Is the dragon Jon was riding dead or not? Why was Daenarys so damn retarded through the whole thing, especially the part where she just sits there and lets her dragon get overrun? What was the point of Bran's worging? Is Arya just an unbeatable super soldier now? Where are all the giants besides the one we see? And which fucko decided it'd be great to let Lyanna kill it as she's coughing up her innards? Oh god, the catchphrases, "stick them with the pointy end" UGH. And worst of all, how can they possibly justify Cersei as the bigger bad over the Night King, because that's the plot now. Like I get that the politics was the best part of the show, and I agree, but they straight up abandoned the White Walker plotline, he just got laid out like a bitch not even a quarter down Westeros. Winter ist Coming? Azor Ahai? The Long Dark? Naaaaah, let's just have him get laid out like a bitch by a little girl, and also the only named characters dying is Mel, Beric, Theon and Ed. Our heroes must be feeling pretty good about that trade. Fuck Dumb & Dumber, if they don't perform a literal miracle in the next 3 episodes, I think they've not just destroyed the best show HBO has ever produced, but they've also massacred any chances for their careers.

For me the show was at its absolute best in the second half of season 2 and all of seasons 3 and 4, mainly because it gave a lot more depth to the three Lannister siblings, who in the first 2 seasons, save for Tyrion, were just straight up bad guys. For example, seeing Cersei deal with Joffrey’s death and, especially seeing Jamie evolve through his adventures with Brienne, brought a lot out of their characters and pushed them from the bottom towards the top of many people’s favorite characters lists. Most importantly, having Tyrion, who is an obvious fan favorite, be the main focus for seasons 3 and 4 also gave us fantastic character interactions because he’s easily one of the characters with the most entertaining/interesting dialogue in the entire show and the way he plays off other characters like Bronn, Cersei, Joffrey, Tywin, Podrick, Shae, Oberyn etc. was always captivating. My favorite aspect though was that Tyrion’s arc of finding love, rising to thrive in a position of power, losing his position and his lover, and then being put on trial and getting betrayed by that same lover, brought out a really fantastic performance from Peter Dinklage and made for a very tragic yet poignant story and character.

Is it just me, or was anyone else bothered about the greyscale removal? I mean, yeah, it was a good scene visually but this disease was regarded as fucking leprosy or something. Stannis, the King's brother, tried medicines all over Westeros and Essos using various Maester's to cure his daughter. Yet Sam picks up a book in the Citadel and just hacks off the greyscale! And Jorah is suddenly cured? Surely when the disease was discovered, that would have been the first thing people would have tried?! And then he goes on touching everyone because it's suddenly okay. Sorry for the rant, I just thought they let Jorah off lightly 😂

Well, it was said that all the treatments they have for it won't work on someone so far gone. Presumably the medicine that is applied afterwards is part of the cure, and the cures are probably not known in Essos. Also, the Maester said Jorah should have cut off his arm, but from Jorah's perspective the only thing he is good at is being a guard, kind of like Jaime, so he wouldn't want that.

Littlefinger is a character who's entire arc is based around him trying to get the Iron Throne. Killing him off before he even got close to what he desired is a disservice to the character and Game of Thrones fans. Imagine if Season 7 ended with Littlefinger taking over Winterfell while Sansa, Arya, and Bran are exiled, imprisoned, or even killed. Then when Season 8 rolls around, we can watch as Littlefinger's rain as King of the North crumbles to the ground. Instead, he was killed in a happy little fan service moment because dumb fans hate him because he is evil and forget the fact that he is one of the most interesting characters on the show. Rant over.

The story is in a different phase now, and Littlefinger has no place in it. He can't connive against the Night King. He can't plot against dragons. He is a useless character at this point, so best to kill him off now.

To add to that, why didn't anyone try and do what had happened with Shireen where a maester somehow managed to prevent further growth of greyscale, or at least greatly subdue it. Surely someone could have tried that with Jorah, or did nobody know *how* Shireen's greyscale was taken care of? Not to mention, Sam got no reprocusions from treating Jorah against orders, which is understandable but even still.

Of course they'll kill some characters off but they don't want to bring any new characters in at this point,.so they need to keep all the characters alive. Also, Tyrion is boring now. Varys is so boring now. They don't act like themselves anymore. Everyone's boring. I get that characters can change some and grow, but my god.

    I saw some theories that claim that the seventh season was a sort of "filler season" with big events and not so much attention put into details, to dedicate more time in actually good writing for the last one. Since writers have a limited amount of time to work on the script(unlike GRR"lazyassnigga"Martin) I hope this was the case, with them putting all their quality work into the last season. A woman can dream......;_;

Well from Gendry heading off to the dragons arriving is, if I remember correctly something like 12-14 hours (it's been a while since I watched the ep, so correct me if I'm wrong). In one earlier episode someone says "It's a thousand leagues from here to the wall" whilst in King's Landing. A league, Google tells me, is 5.556 km. That 5556 km (for the record, almost exactly the distance of London to New York) is presumably along the more or less straight King's Road, but let's assume that a raven flight from nearby Dragonstone to the Wall is a little less and make it a nice round 5000 km. Now let's also assume that the folks north of the wall had been going for about half a day before Gendry leaves. Let's say that they were going at about a 3 km/h tempo, which would be slow, but the conditions were pretty shitty. That means they are about 36 km from the wall or a distance 6/7 of a marathon. If Gendry does a strong 12 km/h over that distance, that's 3 hours to the wall (which considering he isn't fresh, the conditions are poor and the terrain is rugged would be extremely fast). Bringing Gendry in, getting the message ready and sending it... let's chuck on an extra hour. So of, conservatively 14 hours, we've used 4. In the remaining 10 hours there's 10,000 km of flying to be done - 5,000 by the raven to Dragonstone, 5,000 by the dragons back north. As noted in the video, Daenerys needs to do some deciding as well. Ravens can sustain speeds of 40 km/h over long distances, but the fastest long distance flyer on Earth, the Great Snipe can sustain just under 100 km/h. Dragons, with their giant wings (forget about the problematic weight to lift ratio for now), can maybe go a few times this speed, let's say 300 km/h. Well that doesn't work. The raven needs over 5 days of flying without rest (not how ravens work) and the dragons still need 16 hours and 45 minutes after the raven arrives. How fast would they have to go? Well maintaining the speed ratio between them (dragon is 7.5x faster than raven) and eliminating delay between raven arriving and dragon departing... the raven needs to travel over 550 km/h (far faster than the world's fastest animal, the peregrine falcon, in a dive) and the dragon at about 4,250 km/h. For real world comparison we need to look at the SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest ever plane, which achieved a peak speed of 3529.6 km/h. There's suspension of disbelief, but this really challenges it and seriously degrades their world-building.

changes I would have made: 1. Make it 10 episodes 2. Make the removal of the greyscale cripple Jorah Mormont so he can't fight for Dany 3. Kill off Bron in episode 4 4. Have Jaime get captured by Dany 5. still do the white walker thing but make it take longer and give it higher stakes 6. Use the captured Jaime as a bargaining chip and only use the white walker to convince her that the threat is real 7. Make Theon's arc not shit

    1. Is literally impossible. They told HBO they were ending and HBO told them they would give them a raise for season 7 and that it would be the final season. They told HBO that 10 episodes wasn't enough but that they needed that money so HBO forced them to do an 8th season and split season 7 in half and in return they would give them 13 episodes. So season 8 is only 6 episodes with supposedly 75% of the seasons budget only in those episodes (so get ready for some Lord of the Rings level shit on a new scale). Basically if you made it 10 episodes then you would have to end the show completely on episode 10. Good luck with that. The writers did what they could to get us a proper 13 episode final season.

Have Jaime captured and use him as a bargaining chip again wouldn't be a very good or interesting plot point because that's already happened. Btw, I think that one guy should have died in beyond the wall episode, who almost got dragged underwater by zombies, that character no longer has a real purpose in the show, and his death would have been a good shock moment for that episode. And Benjen should have appeared at the beginning of the episode, build his relationship with Jon at least a little before he dies.
