Game Boy Pocket "One Chip" OSD IPS Kit

Ойындар

This new kit uses the same Blackberry Q5 LCD that the Funnyplaying kit uses but it does have a few extra features. You can fully customize the color palettes through the on screen menu. Settings are stored and will overwrite the default palettes. You can also adjust the position of the image on the LCD if your LCD or lens is not perfectly centered.

    Thank you Makho, you’re the best. I just finished installing this kit five minutes ago, and I am extremely pleased with it. I mostly struggled with the soldering of the A B Select wires to the motherboard, but I’m getting better with every project. A very important note, and I apologize if you covered it in this video, is that a game MUST be inserted in order to bring up the OSD. It might seem obvious to most, but I questioned my soldering skills, and was too lazy to put a game in, so I wasted an hour troubleshooting and ripping my hair out. I also used a cheap aftermarket shell, and had to use the cheap power switch that came with it, just like you did. In the end, I recommend this mod completely. Thanks for the help.

    Hello. Hope you still read these comments. 2 questions, if i may: 1)!You connected the IPS screen to the "common" pin of the power switch. Whats the difference between using this pin and the one located at the very left? I used this following another of your videos. 2) So, I have this IPS screen on my GBP, same model as yours (power led model). I can make it work with batteries, but when i plug a Pelikan 3V AC adapter (designed for GBP and GBC) it wont turn on, or when it does, the screen flickers and the GBP acts slow amd weird. I assume the power is not enough. How can we make it work? Batteries last nothing.

  • @makho

    Common pin means the kit only gets power when the GB is on. On earlier kits, the screen would glitch out on some GBs when supplied with external power. Your power supply is not rated for a modded GB.

IF anyone comes accross that one, I’d recommend NOT picking it up. Stick to this one. I installed them on 2 separate Pockets and for both, the signals get triggered randomly while playing a game and suddenly the OSD pops up and you can’t close it. I tried cleaning, resoldering and taping off various things to avoid possible interference a dozen times to no avail, leading me to think something’s wrong in/on the PCB itself.

    I had horrible experiences with the Jugee AA batteries, try the Kentli AA/AAA PH-5/PH-7 1.5V rechargable Li-ion instead, it would be interesting to see a comparison by someone else to see if I've gotten a bad Jugee charger or something. Obviously I didn't buy more of that brand after that... They still fall a bit short of Ladda NiMH on high power-draw application if the item can tolerate low voltages (down to 1V), OTOH on items that require a high and stable voltage they're not bad - both Jugee and Kentli will hold 1.5V (+/- 0.05V) even at high load until they've got less than ~5% charge or less where they start dropping voltage to trigger battery warnings, while "normal" batteries experiences voltage sag both as they discharge and due to the amount of load (mostly caused by voltage drop due to internal resistance in the battery). You measured a no-load voltage of 1.36V on the Ladda but the voltage the GBP sees would be lower due to putting load on the batteries, the active voltage regulation on the Li-ion 1.5V avoids this. OTOH the KENTLI chargers are a bit more clunky to use than the Jugee's chargers, they uses a third connector for the charging current and the batteries can be a bit hard to get in and out of the charger while the Jugee is as easy to use as a regular NiMH charger. Both are available on AliExpress and other normal sources, though as you mentioned that the Jugee AAA was pre-production while Kentli have had their PH-7 AAA model out for a while and the corresponding PH-5 AA model is their third-gen Li-ion rechargable 1.5V - if it doesn't say model number just look for light blue/dark blue color combination, the first/second generation was gold and gold/red respectively. Jugee AA cells are dark-blue.

  • @makho

    @makho

    3 жыл бұрын

    I can't accurately compare my pre-production JUGEE AAA batteries to anything because they are only samples and the manufacturer has told me that they are not up to spec of the final versions. The quoted capacity like three to four times the capacity of the cells I have so if the manufacturer isn't lying about that (which -- they were spot on for the AA cells so that seems like a reasonable assumption to me) then they should be pretty good. And yes, that was a no load measurement but for my purpose it was sufficient. I was just showing that the JUGEE batteries put out more voltage which tends to help greatly in a Pocket.
