Yes, a song about preserving the glorious union is really not a patriotic song. Sounds logical

@@joewilson3575 Yes well you can’t deny the 42nd (Black watch) role in the highlands by stopping separatists. Ps what is manbar because it’s sounds slightly strange

@@matthewhinchliffe2334 Certainly the blackwatch were loyalists, but the song doesn't celebrate that at all, its not political and the only mention of war in the song is really decrying it because the girls in the field are hoping their men have got home safe. The whole song is at most a song of kinship of the regiment and is more about a sort of ideal life of the country, bonny lasses and being a canny lad.

This is both incorrect, and logically wrong. The British Empire did not have nearly enough resources and men in their army to throw entire regiments away as "cannon fodder", and they did not.
