Galaxy Box Fan On Steroids!! High Velocity FAN NOW!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Just used a 2000 galaxy box fan, with a thinner blade found on the newer models.
I have since replaced the blade with a wind machine blade, it runs much better.

First time I saw this video was about 6 years ago, kinda brings back memories when I first found out that there are people that collect fans other than me. That thing is powerful!

Same here! This video is very nostalgic to me.
Removing the front grid increased the speed as it decreased the mechanical load on the motor. I've done it before. When you take into consideration all the horizontal and vertical lines in the grid, it add up to a considerable blockage. Remove both grids for maximum speed!

6 years later, still a GREAT IDEA !! Thanks, new blades on an old fan! Cool!
Clean your place!!
I never really thought about the impact of changing the blades. I just tried dropping in an old Lakewood blade set on my early 2000s model Lasko. I had to chop out the grill over the hub but it works. Slower, but much higher pressure airflow. A lot better, I think.
Well, we'll see how well it lasts. I think the difference in motors is that your 03 model has a shaded pole motor while the newer fan has a weaker PSC motor. It would be interesting to see the motor coils in those as well, since your "super fan" seems to have a 4 pole motor (most boxfans have 6 pole motors for slower quieter running). Keep in mind I'm not saying that PSC motors are weak in general, I tend to like them in fans because of their cool running efficiency. Good luck w/it.

D. B. - Vintage You could never put a 3 blade Aluminum blade set on a modern box fan motor because those fans had much larger shafts and used a set screw.
What you did was create an extremely noisy, low cfm highly inefficient box fan. Impressive...

Wow! The steriods Galaxy box fan is REALLY powerful on high!
The Fan Sounds like Buzzing Bees in a group! :D
Did you replace the motor to make the rpms go up and fan speed go up
Oh my gosh Cory, you wouldn't believe this, but this is your MOST popular box fan video on KZread, lol. :D
This video was my childhood since 2014
To JBlair1982: What I Did Was Put On A Blade Set That Had Less Blade Pitch So It Cranked Out Like Crazy. Now I Got Myself A High Power Fan! I Just Hope The Righer RPM's Wown't Hurt The Motor.
i like to see you install a 3 metal blade on it or a old 7 blade set and see how it will bring out the potental of these old designs
I Took The Blade Set From A 2008 Lasko Box Fan, And Stuck It On A 2004-2003 Galaxy Box Fan Which Is More Powerful. Wierd Thing Is, The Two Motors Are The Same! The Older One Has More Torque.

Not "the same", if the output isn't equal... :P Newer fans have thinner wires, more tightly wound, and less of them. They burn-out a lot faster, but not before the fans break, or the cheap slip-bearings fall apart. (Which makes them start jumping around and fall -over, since they remove the feet from the fans too.) Also, they switched to a more shallow pitched blade, so they are more quiet, power-efficient and don't burn-out on the cheap wiring they used within the motors. 12 years later, and this is still getting hits!

The older one probably has a bigger capacitor than the small one. The bigger capacitor the stronger the fan
Yep I Swapped The Blades for One with Less Pitch.
I think you replaced the capacitor.
you changed the motor or put more voltage on it
That thing spins as fast as my box fan
Did u put a thinner blade on it from a different fan?
Sorry for replying decades late, but it might have to do with a capacitor and blade swap
Comes misconception with induction motors, like the one this fan uses, is that cranking up the voltage will make it spin faster. Due too how induction motors operate, you may be able to possibly yeild more overall power and torque out of the motor with a higher voltage (while sacrificing motor life, ofcourse) however the freqency of the AC power entering the motor is the only way to change the actual shaft speed, short of rewinding the entire motor for a different speed.
Cool,where can i get the blades,mine's broke?
Yeah that's what I toughed too. That you took an older motor/better quality/more torque and you put a cheap recent petal light weight blade on it. But I toughed that the motor was even older than 2003. Imagine somone puts one of those cheap blades on an old 1980s Lakweood motor.
I remember seeing this video when it was new , hard to believe its been that freaking long ago! But how were you able to amply the power current on the fan without managing to blow it up?
@Boxfan2008

Thank you, what I did was use a lighter blade with less pitch, on an older generation of galaxy box fan which had a much more powerful motor, no modifications other than a cheaper blade.

@@Boxfan2008 Ok , thanks for letting me know. Merry Christmas and happy new year!😃👍
is the motor larger on the older one?
Does that come like that or did you mod it?
That's one bad ass fan it moves a ton of air I bet. I bet this one could blow over a cheap box fan. watch those blades I heard these new junkers the blades break easily.
How can I duplicate what you have done? Swap Blade sets? Not sure what that means - please enlighten me.
Did you switch bladesets?
You put a diffetent motor on it that turns more rpms. Also, I notice the motors shaft is sticking out through the hub a little. Or you took some of the pitch out of the blades. My only guess at it.
@askthekoipondbuilder: I think both motors are the same size.
A few times, I ended up making fans on steroids by putting blades of discarded fans on a 3 horse power gasoline snowblower engine, all cases in which the fan blade shattered and sent pieces of plastic flying everywhere.
@Boxfan2008 I know thats what you did...Just posting up info about how the speed in these type of motors can actually be varied.
it sounded like a lasko 3733 box fan on steroids
you had so many fans
Yep!
"I Will Downrate You For This" Right back at ya. >:)
I bet I had a really powerful lasko box fan.
how do you get the blade of the motor without messing it up? i need to replace the blade

simply pulling off the blade set works lol
I have the exact fan blade and it is a lasko fan blade
I Had Trouble with my computer, its fixed, and i am Back! im sorry for the delays with the comments. i will have more Fan Videos uploaded Very Soon.
l.o.l. i was waiting for the blades to blow apart:P
If you want a decent newer fan look for the Patton All metal fans
Yup
now, if lasko or galaxy would just figure out what you just did, then maybe they could make a 20.00 fan that is worth a shit lol
Low sounds like how high would normally sound like....lol!!!!
I Used A Diffrent Blade Set. No Motor Modifications.
You clean the motor
@SaGalv What I Had Done Was Use A Fan With A More Powerful Motor, And A Blade With Less Pitch, The Result Was A Box Fan That Runs About 40% Faster
This is the ultimate man cave!
Nice
Increased power
You made it fast
You had a old galaxy fan and you put a new galaxy fan blade on it
What did u do?

@@sethhorst6158 the reason the fan spins that fast is because of the blades they're paper thin i did on my lakewood fan and found out the bladesets are not the same in wieght even though they are the same bladeset

+Cody Himes I had an older model fan with a more powerful motor, and a bladeset from a modern one. The pitch is much less, therefore turning faster.
You charged that motor up

Wow! You don't need an industrial grade fan because you put that box on steroids.
So..... So, what you're telling us is you used a more powerful motor, resulting in a faster shaft speed AND you also used a fan blades with less pitch to them- if I'm getting this all correct, yeah? So what you end up with is a fan that runs faster and is way noisier but because the flatter pitch of the blades is decreasing it's ability to push as much air, you end up with a fan that pushes the same amount of air as before it was deafeningly loud
@Boxfan2008

Masta Po This video is so old, I'm also not such a dummy anymore lol. But what I did was swap the blade. The motor seen here wasn't strong enough with the steep pitch blade that came with it. The narrower set did end up moving more air, though more noisy.
@TH3C001

I want to learn about this. The mechanics of fans, both traditional kind like these and centrifugal like in air conditioning blowers. What makes them move more air and at what speeds. I want to know so I can possibly modify or make fans that move more air for things like the cooler in my laptop, or the blower in my truck.
Oh, okay, well anyways, KZread user edringsina was asking you what happens if you swapped all blades with less pitch.
They are the same size, But the older one Draws more power, so it goes faster. i didn't modify it in any way other then the blade swap! :)
needs more coat hangers
*different* I ment.
no no how can you put 220 ? you need to blacks and a white. you have like a 48 volt motor on that kicking high rpm's.
now hook up a vfd
The thinner blades with less pitch are god-awful. Horrible things. I bought an Air King 9723 and it had these poorly made blades just like this, and made the same horrible noise. Replaced it with a Lasko 3733 and it's far better.
I have a box fan but not the galaxy the lasko
Different blade
you swaped the blades
Old, old video, but my guess is you put a lighter blade on a different fan with a more powerful motor.

I don't think Cory will reply back (which kinda sucks).
Let me do the talking and let me guess you have put a bigger capacitor on that motor I know so because lasko has been putting bigger capacitors in the box fans lately but you probably have a bigger capacitor than the new lasko large capacitor you know how I can tell because you only have it on for a few seconds run it any longer and you might fry that motor 🤠😂
Obviously you doped it with steroids, or rewired it, maybe increased voltage.. *TELL US* !
