David guarenteed you heard this band before. Was going to say the same of the members. Doll$Boxx is Gacharic Spin with Fuki, the singer from Unlucky Morphious. Definitely should check them out, watch Knight of Sword for a cool base solo. David that ok you don't have to like every song from every band. This has very jazzy keyboards with funky bass. They have lots of songs, maybe you'll find one that is your style.

Can always rely on you for an honest reaction David. I thought the funkiness and musicianship would grab you, especially on the instrumental breakdown, but I guess not enough for this one. Yes they can play much heavier, as you saw with Doll$boxx, but they like to play a range of styles - no one track is really representative.

I wonder if he'd go more for some of the hard rocking stuff from the '1st Anniversary Live' DVD, like Broken Lover, Across the Now or Lock On. I'm a bit reluctant to recommend 'More Power', off that, because Ammy pushes the vocals too hard and comes in flat at the beginning. I'm talking about the live DVD they did rather than the more poppy videos.

@@cyberpotato63 I thought mindset was a big step up in quality from gspins older stuff, the pink haired singer has improved so much, the song writing is more mature, I take being compared to early RHCP as a good thing. (I guess David was thinking of blood sugar sex Magick era?) While gspin have heavier songs I think most of their songs are at this level of light pop rock (but less funk). Gspin may simply not be David's cup of tea, but he may give extra points for a live performance given their energy haha.

Gacharic Spin is pretty polarizing because they LOVE their pop songs. In their albums they'll have a pop song followed by a hard rock followed by a prog rock song. You did catch on to the only thing in common between all of the songs which is the high skill/talent level of all the musicians in the group. I actually quite enjoy their pop songs so I enjoy their entire catalog which I know some people won't which is fine. One thing I will say is they put on a killer live show so even if you don't love all of their music it would be a good time to see them live.

F-Chopper-Koga is sooo good! Mindset is a great song.. But "I wish I" became the earworm! ...and yes: It is heavy as F and would've been a better fit for your taste!! 100%! ...and with a good message about mental health. It also show some of Hana, the drummers, diversity. She has put the drumkit aside, and put on a guitar. ...and a little surprise.

React 【Live】Gacharic Spin「TAMASHII」2019 Multiple vocals. Multiple drums. The keyboards are very good. Gacharic Spin was a good performer but lacked a vocalist. The first vocalist died suddenly. I think the fault is that all members can sing halfway well.

Entertaining review and everything you said was fair and well reasoned - this particular song just wasn't to your taste, nothing wrong with that. The interesting thing about Gacharic Spin though is they are probably one of the hardest bands to identify their style- they change things up stylistically from song to song, often quite radically. They name is derived form "Gacha" which is apparently Japanese slang for chaos - F Chopper Koga, the bass player (who as you noticed is the band's leader) has said she intends the name to mean "Controlled Chaos". You have actually have seen the instrumentalists before - replace this singer Angie with Fuki of Unlucky Morpheus and you have Doll$box, which is the side project where they really let out their rock/metal side. All 4 instrumental members are in both bands (you did say during your Doll$box reaction that you wanted a better look at the bassist). But while Doll$box is where they re at their most metal, there are many Gacharic Spin songs that lean more towards rock and even hard rock than this one does, which is one of their more poppy ones. One interesting thing about this song, while Hana was the drummer from 2009-2018, in 2019 she decided to follow the Dave Grohl career path and switch to guitar, but the new drummer they brought in when she did this was on maternity leave when this was recorded so she switched back to drums for this song. Gacharic Spin actually has a complicated and in my opinion fascinating history, and there are three distinct eras for the band not necessarily stylistically but in terms of how the members are arranged despite having three members who have been in the band for over a dozen years and a fourth entering her tenth year with the band. But I'll try to keep this the Cliff Notes version (actually I failed at that so I'll split the history off as its own post).

Gacharic Spin history: Hana and Koga were childhood best friends who had been playing in different bands but when Koga became very depressed after splitting from her previous band in 2009 and started talking about quitting music, Hana convinced her not to do that by saying they should form a band together. Since they were both bassists, Hana gave herself a crash course on playing the drums. They recruited a singer and a guitarist to form your classic rock band lineup of vocals/guitar/bass/drums. The original guitarist left after only 4 or 5 months and the current guitarist Tomo-zo was brought in. The pre-Tomo-zo era of Gacharic Spin is a lot like the pre-Rob Halford era of Judas Priest back in the early 70s - we know it existed but the only surviving evidence proving this is a handful of still promotional photographs. This lineup was together for three years and enjoyed a good bit of success in Japan, but in 2012, after having become increasingly erratic for a while, on the eve of a tour the original singer, Armmy, completely disappeared. With no idea what had become of her, the band actually made a public appeal looking for a replacement singer to their tour and this was where they first collaborated with Fuki of Unlucky Morpheus. After the tour Armmy came back and revealed the tragic truth behind her behavior, she had been diagnosed with a terminal illness (she died far too young in 2015). Shortly thereafter Armmy permanently split from the band. Although they would collaborate together multiple times again as Doll$box, Fuki wasn't looking to become a permanent member of Gacharic Spin. The tour with Fuki had also included Oreo, a childhood friend of Tomo-zo, as support keyboardist. Oreo was made a permanent member of the band and the decision was made that rather than replacing Armmy, Hana and Oreo would divide the singing duties between them. Since this would mean the vocalist was spending the bulk of the show at least partially hidden at the back of the stage, they added two new members to the band as well. Almost certainly inspired by the then recent breakout success of Babymetal and particularly Moa and Yui, they added a pair of "performers" who were in their early teens despite the other band members all being in their mid 20s. The performers would occasionally provide backing vocals or some gimmicky keyboard playing, but spent the bulk of their time running around at the front of the stage pumping up the crowd much like cheerleaders. One of the performers, Mai, would stay with the group for 5 years through the end of 2018 but there was a bit of turnover with the other performer. This second major alignment of the band lasted from 2013-2018. During that last year Mai became the only performer and had begun to transition into more of a full member of the band, contributing more vocals and even a little instrumental work. But after turning 18 she decided to "graduate" form the band and go to college/university. So in 2019 17 year old Angelina 1/3 (AKA Angie) was brought in to fill the performer role, but fairly rapidly started continuing Mai's transition into a more fully integrated member of the band. Hana also made her decision to switch to guitar to better accommodate her increasing role as the primary lead vocalist of the band, with Yuri being brought in to take over the drumming. Only as can be seen here, Angie has become something of a co-lead vocalist with Hana with Mindset being one of an increasing number of songs where she has primary vocal duties. The other thing I should have mentioned above, but I'll include here - another similarity to Babymetal is Gacharic Spin is a band that puts a lot of emphasis on performance - you would probably enjoy their live videos much, much more than a MV like this was.

Thanks for bringing up the three distinct line-ups/periods. It's all mixed genre, but not all chaos. The emphasis and mix has followed the talents, playing, songwriting & singing of the various groupings. I didn't instantly fall in love with their material. Some of their pop influences hit the off button for me at first. I was intrigued be the attempt to mix together influences in novel ways, but it took some getting used to. Many "What the hell are they doing moments" ,"I'm not sure that works together. Does that combination work together?" for me. It took several years for me to get interested.

Gacha is the sound a hand crank made in toy vending machine. So I guess it could mean chaos in that when you turn the crank you never know what you were going to get from the machine. I guess they wanted the listener to get the same feeling where you wouldn't know what you would get until you listen to the song.

Another patented D.H. review, fair and honest. I gotta agree with you, their musicianship far outshines the song. Being a musician of small means, I was a bit put off by the smashing of the instruments at the beginning! And then the bass came in and I thought, Hmm.... she could give Misa a run. Flea also came to mind, But, the song. If Band Maid played pop it would sound like this. Great minds do think a like! I'm interested in seeing what else they've got.

Not everything they do is for me either, but MindSet is probably my favourite new track that I have heard last year. I actually don't really know why that is myself because I mainly listened to metal before discovering a lot of the Japanese bands starting with Band-Maid about a year ago and I never was a huge fan of poppy stuff, but I personally love this song for some reason. It made me preorder the album where this came of and buy the previous album and a bluray even though I knew I would probably not be a fan of a good bunch of the songs on there. That being said, I totally understand that this is not for everybody and I will always prefer honest reactions over reactors who magically love everything. So I enjoyed your reactions like always.

@@gerardcote8391 Yes to most of them. Most of these play Power Metal or something adjacent and I usually am not a huge fan depending on the song and if they go more Heavy/Classic Metal or not. - Mary's Blood: I do enjoy Mary's Blood in smaller doses, I do like their latest CD and own a couple of blurays. They have plenty of songs that I am not a huge fan of since they are a bit too Power Metal for me. - Aldious: I also own an Aldious bluray that I recently got to test them out. I haven't watched the show itself, but listened to the Live CD that comes with it and it's ok, but boy do they play and sing out of tune on that one (it is the one with the backup vocalist though). The music itself has some stuff that I enjoy and some stuff that I don't. They go very Power Metal as well. - Lovebites: The same thing for Lovebites, I think they are great musicians but I don't like most of their songs that I have heard. I am not a huge fan of her vocals even though I do hear that she has a good voice, but I don't like the style. I did buy one of their blurays after a discussion on youtube to see if I would like more songs, but I haven't gotten around to watch it. - Bridear: What I heard sounded a bit too Power Metal for me, but I haven't heard a lot by them. - Destrose: I might check them out, but I assume it's going to be similar to Bridear, Aldious, Lovebites and Mary's Blood since those bands have either members of Destrose or I have read they sound similar to Destrose. - Babymetal: They are not for me. I have a lot of respect for what they do as it must be difficult to put on such huge shows with all that choreography, but I am not a huge fan of what I have heard with the exception of 1 or maybe 2 songs. The chorusses don't do it for me like with a lot of Japanese bands actually. I have heard snippets of Scandal and Lovendor, but not enough to remember what they sound like. I don't think I have heard before or Stereopony. So the main problem for me with a lot of those bands is that they play a music style I am not a huge fan of. I am not a huge fan of a lot of the higher pitched vocal styles as well as the "epic" melodies a lot of Power Metal bands have in the chorusses and a lot of these bands have songs like that. It sounds a bit cheesy to me, but I know that's just taste. Let me be clear that I have nothing against any of these bands and I can totally understand why people love what they do. The same goes for Unlucky Morpheus to some degree even though I am not the biggest Fuki fan as far as vocals go (she is a great singer, but her vocal style doesn't always do it for me an get's tiring), but I love Jill's violin and all the musicians are at the top of their game. I do enjoy them in smaller doses as well and I have bought some stuff by them as well. My hope with buying and listening to that type of music from time to time is that I might appreciate it more after a while. There was no way I could have seen myself enjoy most of this music over a year ago, so who knows. My top 3 Japanese bands at this moment are probably: Band-Maid Nemophila Asterism (they deserve to be more well known)

One of their biggest strengths which you wont see in this video. Like a ton of other Japanese bands. Their stage show is off the charts in terms of chaos/energy. Other things of note. Another one of their strengths is their vocal harmonies. They have a habit of bouncing around vocal duties often in the same line. Of the 6 girls... 3 are capable of doing main vocals. Hana,Oreo,Angelina. The guitarist can sing as well. But not as strong as the other 3. I would strongly suggest checking out "Tamashii" or "Lock On" for a more rock style. Also...Another note. They are like a musical blender. They will take anything/anystyle and who knows what direction they go.
