I have listened to great music all my life but no single piece has moved me so much as this sublime rhapsody. It is exquisitely executed and leaves an indelible mark on the listener. I don’t remember her name but I actually emailed the oboist personally. I told her how touched i was by her playing here. She was nice enough to reply and simply said “thank you.” I felt like I had won the lottery after hearing from her. I’ve listened to other concerts with Maestro Morricone conducting. No other oboist has even matched her melodic quality. In my opinion, if God Himself were playing the oboe, this is how He would sound.

Funny thing...I kept encountering this song and felt I knew it from somewhere... Turns out an arrangement was used for a movie entitled Mission To Mars. Loved it then and loved it now.
in my opinion, Ennio Morricone's "Gabriel's Oboe" is the greatest piece of music written in the 20th century &, certainly, the most beautiful.

Possibly the best piece of music ever written. Directing superb. Hugely talented orchestra and chorale. You could listen to this every day and never tire of the majesty of it.
Simply put this is what music is intended to be. It inspires the soul. Raises the mind to eternal things opening the door which stands between heaven and earth.

My father named me Gabrielle because he fell in love with this song.
I give all respect to the oboe player, to play with that much heart, must have taken immeasurable hours of practice to play like that before the maestro himself!!

Dopo tanta musica leggera brutta e volgare ecco il capolavoro che ci regala Ennio Morricone. Una delle più grandi, significative, suggestive opere musicali del nostro molto confuso periodo storico. Ribadisco che dopo un'infinità di brutture musicali, oggi sono fiero di essere un musicista italiano e di vivere nel periodo in cui il maestro Morricone ha creato il suo vero capolavoro che può essere affiancato aile più prestigiose opere musicali di tutti i tempi. Imho, one of the great injustices in Academy Award history; though Morricone' score was nominated in 1987, the Oscar went to Herbie Hancock. Good for Herbie, but this magnificent score has such timeless scope!

This recording is a gift from the heavens.
Truly an honor to be selected for the oboe and flute solos. The artists were just wonderful, as they needed to be, with such a beautiful work as this to perform.

What a wonderful orchestra the girl playing the obeo was fantastic also the clarinet i loved.I loved the sound from the chellos and violins violas.I listen to this wonderful piece of music alot.Its so emotional i cry.Well done Ennio Morricone.

I haven't seen "Round Midnight", but how The Mission didn't get the oscar for the score, I will never know. Morricone was robbed a few times. They finally gave him a "honorary award" and he was truly moved, but he was ultimately robbed. One of the greats of the 20th Century, for sure.

@@moonhyunkoh7594 For me, It's Song So Hee, Prof. Kang Hye Jung, violinists Han Soo Jin and Kim Bomsori (Bom Sori?), and too many others to mention. Kdrama! Mr. Sunshine is the best thing ever done for TV, IMHO. There are at least a dozen more just a few lengths behind Sunshine, almost as good. BTS is likely the best Pop group out there, but my opinion doesn't cont for much, as I'm Not a Pop fan. I'm not an Opera Snob either. Mean Mary, The Banjo Boys, Misora Hibari, Teng Tteresa, Nakamura Rimi, Tanimura Shenji being favorite popular artists. In other words, Hollywood is HollyHhasBeenWood, I don't need them, thanks to S. Korea, the RoC, and Japan.
