That was a sick heat. Ewing looks like Fannin on his wraps. I like his flow on the wave. Madina is just insane with some of the stuff he pulls.

How were Ewing's waves only 6's? Not saying he should have won, it's just the judges don't seem to reward great fundamental surfing anymore.

@@markriobr you must not have read my comment properly--I said 'not saying Ewing should have won'' or scored higher than Medina. To explain my point, Ewing's is some of the most elegant and stylish on tour. It's an absolute pleasure to watch and I want to see more of it. However, when the judges award it scores in the 6 range, they are effectively discouraging his approach. To avoid being pointlessly attacked, let me be clear. Gabe is a great surfer, probably the most complete surfer so far, has won on turns, has won in the barrel, has won in the air and regularly links them all together.

@@KirbyCharkra I think Ewing is just missing some power and vertical lip attacks. He mostly just did wraps, carves and foam climbs which will not score as well as medinas waves where he attacks the lip and gets a ton of spray.

nah i completely agree, medina surfed really well but I would've thought ewing's waves were 7s/8s because he was surfing with speed power and flow and hit the critical sections of the wave. My only guess is that the turns he did didn't look dynamic enough, for example he didn't kick up loads of spray or go for a big layback or something on the critical sections which you especially need to do on your forehand to get big scores

First wave feels like more than a 6.27

I think Ewing would’ve won if he did a bit more progressive and dynamic surfing, stuff like laybacks, tail slide, throw tails ect. Anyway some sick surfing from both

If Medina got a 7.43 for that mediocre wave then Ewing's 6.93 should have been an 8.93 because it was that much better. SERIOUSLY. I'm dark skinned and unbiased, so should the judges be also. Wanker Shame League

I hope the whole tour has to shut down and get rebuilt by people who surf. 600 likes for mex. Perfect reflection of todays lackluster skate tour. Bring back big pits and not calling off the best day at pipe cuz it's too much for the Brazos and whoever else who doesn't like pumping barrels. Kick em off tour if they don't want to preform.
