One of the biggest "robberies" in surf history. Everyone agrees that Ethan's right and Medina's left should have got similar scores. But Medina's right was waaayy better than Ethan's left. IMHO, Ethan has the best style ever - even better than Andy, Archbold, Parko - but he safe surfed his left. That' s undeniable. Although, Medina also didn't take many risks on his right, his maneuvers had much more power and juice than Ethan's. By the way, everyone menacing and threating Ethan Ewing or Griffin Colapinto should be arrested. It wasn't their fault.

Medina's backside was better but he struggled on the left (frontside) by not choosing tube in the 2 tube sections and giving less variety in lip hitting maneuvers. It also had less engaged rail. But the aerial was incredible. Ethan demonstrated a lot more variety, more rail, more flow, more speed and he used the tube in both tube sections. It was high quality surfing for both of them, so much so that they had the same score.

So they are fucked up as a company and they trying hard to get it done. They need more viewers in australia and new champion and brazil already give it all to WSL. A good turn is cooler than a good air, that's why. And don't cry about it like this always happens this way. Remember Gabe getting a 6 for an air at fucking Pipe Masters? To most people EE's surfing is the most fun to watch, and that's the whole point of this. If you want to go watch basketball go for it. This is surfing and style still matters.

The fact is that Brazilians are the best in the world right now (6 titles in less than 10 years), and they are dominant in all kinds of waves and every kind of maneuver. They are acrobats and are the best at performing the hardest maneuver in the sport: airs. Aussies and Americans can't fly as Brazilians do, so the WSL is trying to make the game easier for then. Even so, Brazilians keep on winning.

Na bateria anterior o Felipe Toledo fez 9.20, no que foi a melhor onda para a direita do evento. Daí nessa bateria os juízes dão 9.07 para o australiano, que não chegou nem perto do Toledo em progressividade. Então eu pergunto: fez sentido esse julgamento? Está claro que o Medina foi prejudicado e que os juízes então de 🤡 🤡 🤡 HORROROSO WSL!!! 🤬🤬🤬

Yeah it seems like the judges have added “style” to the scoring criteria, which is very subjective so I’m not sure if it should be part of the criteria. That said, rides in wave pools can become very monotonous so style might become more advantageous on a wave such as this.

Ethan’s 9 was much better surfed than Medina’s 8. No debate. Gabriel took off later further down the pool. His beginning turns weren’t close to as good as Ethan’s. His variety of turns was not in the same class. Ethan’s aerial was much more technical than Gabe’s. Brazilians cry about everything they don’t win and are sure it’s racism. He simply got outsurfed in the right. We can debate the left now.

Laughable. Those first two reverses were nothing special. Groms stick those all the time. The oop was the only really critical move on that wave. Medina needed to stick the flip on his last wave as none of the previous moves were big enough to matter. Medina had the best right, but not by much, while EE’s left was excellent. It was a close-ish heat but Ewing had the advantage.

Absolutely zero credibility for the WSL. Unbelievable what they did to Medina.

Ewing's 9 was easily the best surfed wave of the heat so they had to give it more than Gabby's 8.67. His last wave looked to be in the 7-8 range so what's the problem? Medina fell and lost.

Não sou de comentar em vídeos! Mas essa bateria foi d+…roubo na cara dura! Os caras pensam que ninguém entende de surf e julgamento. Essa entidade é muito burra! Como é que eles tratam a maior estrela do circuito mundial dessa forma há anos?! Um cara que tem mais de 10 milhões de seguidores, leva uma audiência absurda para as transmissões e etc. Eu no lugar do Gabriel, já teria abandonado essa porcaria. Um cara que já está milionário, patrocinado pela melhor marca de surfe do mundo e tantas outras. É triste como tem politicagem em tudo nesse mundo! Y’all are pathetic. Italo won the final but EE definitely won this match. You guys have 6 titles in 8 years. You dominate most of the top spots on tour. There’s no conspiracy against Brazilians in the WSL. Sore losers are bad enough but sore winners are the biggest kooks going. Brazilians may have “passion” but you consistently prove you have no class. Grow up.

I think Medina's power is quite evident over Ewing. He commits to each maneuver more than Ewing. I think Gabe won. However, falling didn't do him any favors. I don't see at all how Ewing scored a 9... He's good, but he didn't blow anyone away with any of those waves. Surf judging has LONG been inconsistent and frustrating, and it is still problematic.

O backside do Medina foi melhor mas ele prejudicou-se na esquerda (frontside) ao não escolher tubo nas 2 seções de tubo e ter dado menos variedade em manobras de batida no lip. Também teve menos rail engajado. Mas o aéreo foi incrível. O Ethan demonstrou muito mais variedade, mais rail, mais flow, mais velocidade e usou o tubo nas duas secções de tubo. Foi surf de muita qualidade para os dois, tanto que fizeram o mesmo score.

A esquerda do Italo foi 9.07 e foi uma performance abaixo da só medina, roubo na cara dura! Eles tão nos mostrando o que vai ser em trestles, Ethan Wing o campeão mundial que não sabe fazer aéreo.

I watched the heat a few times and I think its fair, Ethan´s forehand turns are way better.

This generation is amazing!! Half the stuff judges gives 4 and 5 . I would have gave them a ten lol. Ewing and Felipe ( and John John) are my favorite. But I think Ewing lost that heat?? Wsl has always been a little strange. A few years back Kelly was kill it, and they kept underscoring him. It seemed like they just wanted to get rid of him.

Medianas second wave was a 10 , Ethan Ewing surf was standard in my opinion compare to Medina on maneuvers but Ethan surfed very well as well at the end . Conclusion, i think medina was missing points and deserved a better score on this WSL for what he did on this final .

All i heard was "wah wah didn't land the kerrupt flip" so obviously they didn't score progression. Rev 3's dont score anymore. Its just a regular turn thats as old as smartphones

O maior roubo da história, nunca pensei que chegariam a tanto. A primeira onda do medina para esquerda com certeza foi superior ao 9.07 do Ethan.

Na moral .. foi empate.. porém as duas melhores ondas tu caiu mané...vc pode mais...ficou devendo..na moral..o carq mereceu passar sim

WSL apresentem uma análise de cada nota, seria digno de uma entidade séria.

Mais uma vez a WSL mostra que não esta comprometida coma qualidade e coerencia no julgamento das ondas, nitidamente o Gabriel foi prjudicado por um julgamento tendencioso e favoravel ao Ethan, que não tem culpa de nada. Quem perde é o esporte e a evolução do surf, a WSL esta decadente mesmo, daqui a alguns anos provavelmente veremos surgir uma nova entidade que ira promover o campeonato mundial de surf com bases mais honestas e justas! E pensar que existem juizes brasileiros participando desses julgamentos tendenciosos e nitidamente incorretos, a WSL não tem mais capacidade para administrar campeonatos mundiais!

Good stuff! Not sure what everyone's complaining about but it seems like people are reacting with emotion because their guy didn't win. I understand that it feels bad when your favourite doesn't get it done but I don't get where the comments about corruption and favouritism are coming from. If you look at the heat objectively, Ethan's right was clearly the best wave of the heat; two reverses including a corked out air on the end, multiple tail blows, and a deep barrel. Sure, his left was less exciting, but again there were multiple turns where he blew the fins out the back of the wave and finished with another reverse. I think Medina was definitely looser in his turns and had a bit more progression but I can't look past the quality of Ethan's turns, his clean rail lines and control. Maybe I'm asking too much but instead of screaming robbery and claiming to be victims of favouritism and racism, try and explain why Medina's two waves were better. If anyone can make a good argument I might change my mind. Helpful hint: if you're going to talk about corruption and bias and feelings it won't work.

you got it spot on......a lot of fans don't even surf. they can't see through their bias. Ethan was so fast and smooth with bigger manoeuvres .

I don't think it was robbed, but scores were off. Disagree with you on Ethan's right being the best wave of the heat. He did one good nosepick reverse in the middle and an ugly (although I'll probably never do better) air reverse at the end, he should get his score deeply discounted there (where I think judges overlooked the flaws). His turns were smooth but lacked power/ precision (he was hitting too soft and too late, throwing less spray than Medina in his left). He did get barreled, but nothing major. Medina on the other hand, not only threw buckets, but had two nosepick reverses and skipped the barrel to throw the craziest crazy alley oop (which I think it was the only alley oop of the day) at the end, so he shouldn't get his score discounted because of skipping the barrel (and I think they discounted). On the backside, I'd say it was an even battle, Medina did get an edge on scores, but the error on the forntside more than offset it.

claramente a melhor onda da bateria foi a esquerda do medina, mas a notas nao representaram a realidade. A comparação e simples as notas tambem deviam ser.

Everybody's complaining but im old and i remember when ochy beat curren at Huntington and it was easy to see the winner and the surfing was pretty non radical compared to today, the guy with one big move won, maybe today theyre so good and similar that you can't really say whos better. I just watch and feel whos better and i felt italo

Até pra quem não entende de surf, fica muito claro que o Gabriel venceu... Se pegarmos o critério oficial divulgado pela WSL, ele venceu em todos os quesitos do critério e em qualquer critério sério e coerente de julgamento. Lamentável ver o SURF, meu esporte favorito que pratico há mais de 40 anos, ser ridicularizado por esse empresa que se diz entidade e que faz do SURF, um triste reality show com imensas palhaçadas!😔
