G pulchra & B boehmei, care and housing
Today we take a look at two very popular beginner spiders, the Brazilian Black and the Mexican fireleg, both are nice docile and hardy spiders which are very forgiving in their husbandry making them a great choice for new comers to the hobby.

G. pulchra was my first tarantula and the only tarantula I have two of…they’re still my favorite. 😎
I will add another comment. I have watched hundreds of videos to research and learn about Tarantula husbandry and care from the top keepers and breeders and Dave and cam lady are the most consistent and experienced and non commercial by far. the rest are left in the dust. you can send me a free T for this comment Dave. Only kidding haha .

Beautiful spider. God created wonderful varieties of spider
Congrats on your new additions. They are beauties.
Two of my favorite 'beginners'... The pulchra is just such a nice spider, but the boehmei's so brightly colored ❤
Hello from across the Pond, Dave and Camera Lady! It's been awhile for me hasn't it? You know, I have a few T's now, and I find that I never expect the expected with them. My T.albopilosus is supposed to be docile, instead she's very defensive and bolty. On the other hand, my T.vagans is a sweetheart. My only Brachypelma, the emilia, is shy, but whoa! She's vicious with crickets and dubias. My best behaved in all ways is my A.chalcodes and my G.. pulchripes. Both enjoys a walkabout when ever I open their enclosures for maintenance. Both will just hang out on my hand or crawl up to sit on my shoulder. My N.coloratovillos sling is shy too. But my G.porteri sling can't wait to get on my hand and out of her deli cup home. They all make laugh at their differences in personality. My GBB, well, she's plain indifferent to everything. But, none have flicked me yet. Winter is on our doorstep once again, the color is fantastic here but not for much longer. Summer was hectic for me and went by too fast. And my grand babies are growing up too fast. The oldest, 18yrs, got married on the 31st Halloween. A real hillbilly sort of wedding..lol. But it was a beautiful day and I pray everything will be right for them. So, have fun you two with your NW's. Have wonderful Autumn and be safe. BTW, Camera Lady, it was so wonderful to hear your voice. You need to speak up more, you have a lovely voice. Cheers!

Hi linda, good to hear from you again your wedding sounds lovely I bet it was a great day , good to hear your collection is doing so well , im glad your all safe and well ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm still waiting on a G Pulchra to add to my collection. Got a B Emilia juvenile recently. Nice job Dave!
100% agree Dave with the grow rate and temperatures, all my Brachypelma species are kept around 78-80 and are growing quicker than what’s said in the hobby. Now my Mexican Copperhead / Bonnetina minax may be the slowest grower I’ve ever seen.
One day I will get one LOL Good job, Dave and Camera Lady ( she talks & laughs) she wasn't shy today.
Love the T-shirt on you dave, suits you 😊 Thanks for the kind words

Hey Dave! I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this pop up in my notifications for 3 reasons: 1: It’s Dave, that’s enough to get any fan excited! 2: The rehousing videos are probably my favourite that you do! 3: Nice to see you covering beginner spiders! I really enjoyed this too! When camera 📸 Lady interrupted your statement, your face was like, what? I’ve been interrupted! Hilarious 😂! Very nice spiders, if you’re not ready for a Thailand Black, G.Pulchra is the next best thing! I’ve got 3 video suggestions that I hope you’ll take into consideration: -Maintenance Video ( I really enjoyed the few you have uploaded in the past )! - Collecting Substrate and Moss and stuff for your enclosures. Last time you did that was at the beginning of your channel! -Update on the African Flat Rock Scorpion. Now, just a little bit of me congratulating you in a way. I’m impressed with how fast your channel grew. You’ve achieved in just over a year, what takes most channels years to accomplish. I am of course talking about your subscriber count. The speed at which you’ve grown is truly amazing Dave! I’m proud of you buddy! And with that, I wish you a good night/afternoon/morning. Greetings from Ontario,Canada!
I own both of this species and I love them! The Fireleg is named "Ruby Rose" and my Pulchra is "Mopsi".

Awesome Dave! I have a red knee, she escaped the little devil about a month ago, I found her two weeks ago… she went for a walk for a bit I reckon. A fantastic T to own! She is one of my most laid back T’s I own! I am a huge fan of the Arizona Blonde as well

This comment gave me life 😂😂 I am OBSESSED with my Arizona blonde. She is my sweet little baby (next to my human child lol) I don’t know what it is about them, they’re so amazing. But the fact that your T took a walk and then just showed up like “ok I’m done, I’m good now” 😂😭 sooooo cute lol
Great Spiders, Dave, just love the Mexican Fire Leg !!!!!!!!
If I ever get a spider, it’s be a G. Pulcra. There is just something so beautiful about a pure black specimen.
Great videos as always Dave!! Camera lady was not shy today haha🤙🏽👍🏼
I have a G Pulchra and I love her 🖤
Nice T-Shirt ! I keep mine (B. boehmei, B. hamorii, G. porteri and T. albopilosus) all the same, mostly dry sub except when I occasionally overflow the water dish. They don't have a preference for moisture as far as I've seen. They tend to avoid moist spots. Temps are in the low 70s. Pretty much always out and about, usually give a good show during feeding time. In my opinion, the absolute best. Another pro is their extreme longevity. Glad to see these two enter the Beastie Room, no doubt they'll enjoy it very much. Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)
Another great video, thanks Dave and Camera Lady 😊
great video to add to the collection PROFF, usual great information on both spiders. very simple enclosures but great viewing spiders. another fine video from the camera lady , many thanks guys take care

Hi Dave my friend! Good to see a video on "beginner species" from you. These are the true classics of the hobby. Have them both females, would never ever give them away!
Yay! I’m early to another Beasties video 😊 I really, really want a Grammostola Pulchra. Black is one my favorite colors and I love the velvety look they have. Love your videos Dave!

Funnily enough, I got my 'beginner' spiders much later into the game, G.Pulchra and A.Chalcodes. I started with old worlds and still mostly keep those. My Pulchra is a sassy little one, always ready to kick hairs at the slightest sign of my hand getting anywhere near the enclosure. Haha
I love the Brazilian Black and they are so impressive in their own way! Thank you for yet another interesting informative video from you ( in that lovely looking T-shirt ) and the always so sweet Camera Lady! Hugs 🤗🥰❤🕷, Susanne.
I've been wanting a pulchra for ages - they seem to go so quickly when advertised ....Also, can we call 'camera lady' 'Mrs B ....(Beastie) as 'camera lady' seems a little formal x

I agree on the g Pulchras! I went to a show that comes 3 times a year, here, this past weekend and there were tons! Problem was, the older ones were way too expensive 😂 so I got a TINY sling, but it was still a little pricey but I couldn’t believe how many g pulchras there were there
Woohoo, Dave uploaded! 👍🏻👍🏻

beautiful new additions. My husband got me a Boehmi for our anniversary a couple years ago. She's still juvi size at this point
I have both species. My Pulchra is part chicken! She runs into her coconut house every time I open her cage to feed her. My Boehmei is also chicken! Neither have flung hair at me, they just run for cover. Such brave spiders!
Two small beauties.
Very nice rehousing on both ! Thanks Dave, you never fail to make wonderful videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mines a wicked hair kicker to ,never a threat pose ,an loves to climb ,I've found her upside down countless times , My will feed a few times before she stops ,maybe 4 ;5 times then won't eat until she molts ,awesome video again Dave 👍
Always love the rehouse/care videos! Such cool work from the both of you and how you make sure to try and not scare the spiders/tarantulas too much!
Well another great housing vid n i'm sure the G pulcra stands for gorgeous she's a smasher and the B boehmei has just got enough p... n vinegar in his outlook keep up the good work n well done Camera Lady for more great shots ...
Yay I was waiting for G Pulchra.
Awesome video.my beohmei I've always kept with humidity. And what you said about them looking so stunning when moulted out is so true.almost like a gloss sheen.stunning spiders
these species are beautiful especially the boehmi
Just bought a 3 inch Red Knee for my niece and it's as mellow as can be hanging on the side of enclosure ,I'm not sure , but I think it's not happy with the different substrate I put it in she's going to add more like what the shop had it in to see if it helps but a very sweet baby so far doesn't even kick hairs when manipulated
Thanks to your channel, i've recently got into the hobby and just recieved my first Tarantula today. I've got a beautiful G.Pulchra around 5cm named Queen lizzy, and thanks to your videos I don't feel like im going into this blind and feel confident caring for her. Her enclosure is a little on the humid side at around 75-78% but im hoping that will settle down over the next few days. Keep up the great work, I look forward to your videos each week, it's become a bit of a highlight. Thank you Dave and Camera Lady!

You will be fine my friend and welcome to the hobby ❤👍
I got my B. boehmei kind of late in my keeping career and can't wait until it gets to this size - at the moment it's still tiny 😁 Beautiful spiders and great content as always ❤
I'm a new keeper and I have four spiders - a G. pulchra, G. iheringi, M. robustum and C. cyaneopubescens. The G. pulchra is like a puppy, just happy to be here and always ready to eat. I was really excited to see you covering a spider that I keep. Love your channel and thank you! I want to ask, have you ever kept an M. robustum? They seem unique in a few ways: they're proficient fossorial labyrinth makers but they're out in the open plenty, and they do an adorable little "butt waive" when they're mad. I'd be interested to see your recommended care & housing for those as well.

My New World Ts are all out and about all the day, and my asian T´s (mostly arboreal) live very reclusive. They are beautyful and interesting but very shy also, unfortunately.
beautiful spiders and useful info about them! really like the waterdish :)
I haven't got either of these, but they are beautiful spiders. I haven't room to up grade my invert room as of yet, but have a few tarantulas on my to buy list in the future. Nice video Dave & camera lady.

Nice fashion!!! 😁
I hope we'll see some more of the pulchra. It's the only T I would maybe consider keeping, I like em that much :D
Awsome vid dave, the G. Pulchra is very much on my list of T's I want. Just wish they weren't so pricy, here in the states they run about 120 dollars.
So pleased to hear you say you discourage handling - I find it hard to believe spiders actually like being handled

It’s something I have never seen the need for 👍
I love my Pulcher. We had a small earthquake where I live last year and I thought, if we had another earthquake and I could only save one tarantula. It would be my G. Pulcher.
Great video! My G. pulchra hates humidity. Whenever she has a water dish or humid area on the enclosure, she immediately covers it up with substrate. She's also a destroyer. She tears up every mesh or plant that the enclosure has

I just commented about my g pulchra destroying her water dish lmao so.its not just me
Awesome 💗
Your videos are always a pleasure for me and mostly they are also very instructive. But Dave, this Brachyphelma boehmei does not look like a purebred racehorse. More like if her grandmother was a hamorii or smithi. I can make a mistake watching a video and maybe it will look different after the next moult, but I wouldn't be so sure ... 🤓😅
@daveslittlebeasties
2 жыл бұрын
Yes this was gifted to us with some other spiders we will have to see in a moult or so 👍
I've said the same thing for a while. The spider might live somewhere 90°F with 20-40% humidity, but they burrow. You go to central Mexico and dig down a foot, your going to find some moisture, and cooler temperatures.
@rebel4466
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah lots of people don't see that they don't spend a large amount of time outside of their burrow. Literally every country has lower temperature when digging down. Of course temperature promotes growth, because people want to own big spiders... But air temperatures aren't really realistic for them to be kept in 24/7
I'm always excited to see a G. pulchra. they are my absolute favourite new world terrestrial. Mine is so sweet and placid, stll a juvy a bit smaller than that but never ever kicked hairs or shown signs of aggression. they are so beautiful! thank you for the video
Amazing! You have any peacock spiders?

Not gonna lie, as I mentioned before, I have pretty strong arachnophobia, but even so I am considering having one of these in the future. I'd never have a whole room full of them like you do, but maybe one, that I can easily handle and not get too freaked out about, maybe. Your videos are so educational, the way you take care of them and talk about them is so nice, that it makes my fear for them less! Thanks Dave!

Great video Dave and lovely spiders. One thing for you. My daughter has a female B. Boehmei juvenile about the same size as yours. We tried rehousing it into one of the Komodo enclosures about a week ago. We found it a day later hanging upside down with one of its fangs stuck in the mesh of the lid! Managed to free it by pressing on the fang with a plastic straw, and had to press firmly to free it. I’ve put it back in its previous plastic enclosure until it gains more size and it’s fangs are too big to push through the grill.

Such cuties 😍 thank you Mr and Mrs Dave for another informative video 🥰🥰🥰
Nice G pulchra
I got a lil fire leg.. Such spirit and tenacity. Also does not hesitate flicking hairs.
