KZread has trained me so well, that when in the end when he says "and don't forget.." i immediately move to click the video away before i get commanded to "like, tweet, subscribe and donate on patreon but not before a word from our sponsor". But then he goes and says ".. be calm, be gentle and love your spider". Very nice channel!

I put my fruit flies, both the larger and the smaller golden ones, in the fridge for a while before using them as it really does help to slow them down. My tiny slings, less than 0.5cm I feed with the golden fruit flies and also put a few springtails in there too 😀

I might suggest that once you have them in your transfer container, grab a cold pack from your freezer and place your container on that for a couple min OR pop the whole container in the freezer for a min or two, not much longer, and the FF become very lethargic but will pop back to life in short order and you will not have them running all over whilst feeding. You also have the ability to have better "portion control" LOL

Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable working with a sling that is smaller than 1/4". It would be difficult to find in the substrate. I helped a friend raise a T. albopilosus sling over a decade ago, using cut up mealworms at first. Eventually, as that sling reach 1" and up, it became more bold and began to tackle small crickets. Now, that person is no longer keeping it. That sling has become a stunning female (Honduran) and is part of my small collection. She never skips feeding unless in premolt. I would definitely be willing to raise slings of my own in the future, just not super tiny ones ;) Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)

I bought a Lasiodora parahybana but it was much much smaller than I thought. My psalmopoeus irminia already had some size when I got it and it was no problem to feed mealworms right at the beginning. So now I cut the mealworms in half and feed it that way, since getting a whole fruit fly colony for one sling seems a little overkill :x

After a bit of trial and error, I came up with my favorite way of getting the fruit flies out. Just nudge the sponge to one side and let the desired amount climb out, then cup them in a sling vial. When they climb up the sides I put the lid on. Then grab the vial with the spider in it, line them up and gently tap the fruit flies in. It really cuts down on the number of escapees. I used to get them everywhere before I started doing that haha. I've got quite the number of fruit fly eating slings.

Can be a pain to find those fruit flies. For those in the UK go into "Just for pets" (NOT Pets for homes). If you ask they can order them in for you usually on there next delivery the following week. Postage is free as its to the store and they just charge you the price they normally would off shelve (about £3 or 2 for £5). :) Poundland do the wood shaving craft bits in craft section and tubs as well as everything else needed to breed your own.

Sometimes I wonder how loud noises, like the opening of containers, affects the various types of spiders. Do some get skittish? Or do they get pissed off at the disturbance? Pure scientific curiosity on my part and in no way critical of how you handle the "kids". No arachnids have ever had a better home life that at your establishment.

Hi Dave I really have learned so much about tarantula's. I went to a science center, and they had a friendly tarantula. I asked if I could hold it, and they said yes. I always wanted to hold one. It was a pink knee. I am not afraid of spiders, and was excited to hold her. I love in Florida USA. I always wondered how you fed them. Excellent video.🕷️🕸️Cindy

I keep hearing people about "flightless fruitflies" but the only thing close that I can find in my country are curly-wing flies. What are the scientific names for the flightless fruitflies? I have a little T. Seladonia sling that I wanna feed with fruitflies since she doesn't want to eat so often. I don't know if you will see this Dave, but I'm so grateful for your content. You and other content creators have thought me so much about Tarantulas. You've especially learned me a lot about the Seladonia. I loved watching your Seladonia videos so much that I decided to get my own 😁 She's two weeks old now and absolutely adorable and gorgeous. And very adventurous 😂

@@daveslittlebeasties Yeah, the only thing they have Curly-Wing flies (Musca domestica). I did get her to eat very tiny buffalo worms (or pieces of one) though. I will try to catch them indeed, see how that will go. Though having them being able fly might become and issue but i will see how it goes.

@@DarkdragonKev You could put the flies in the fridge, which makes them slow. Or in the freezer to kill them.

Good info there Dave .... When you pulled out the communion pot of 100 and started to feed all the meal worms my mind started to wonder and try and figure out but........ Roughly....... how many beasties are occupying the small nooks and crannies of the Beastie Room ? Curiosity got the best of me .......

Hey Dave, my favorite of them all, i always look foward to your videos, so nice to layback and let Dave mind his business.. 😉👏🏽👏🏽 If i just may say this stupid little pointer, especially when it comes to slings.. or when you are coverin more then 1 or 2 Tarantulas, is to put the name of that type of spider, just somewhere on screen it helps out allot, because with slings you can guess your ass off, and you would not even come close.. i'm i right, there is not so much differents, i'm not saying wat you should do,.. 😅🤜🏽🤛🏽 dont get me wrong.. i'm a 1-armed (in the hobby) superfan.. i was there when the channel started to move.. you have a lot of younger people in your subscribers, so it's just a hint.. keep it up, and i will follow.. CHEERS DAVE AND MARVELOUS CAMERAWORK-LADY... ho is not to be forgotten‼️‼️ Much love to you both.. ‼️🤩🥰🤩‼️

When I feed my slings fruit flies I use a Frida snot sucker its in the baby aisle at any store its much like an entomologist aspirator. I suck the flies up and tap them in the sling vials. Fruit fly culture media recipes are easy to find online.

Wow. That's a lot of mouths to feed! Keeping one spider is wasteful on food though. I could only find a large pot of flies when my P. regius was due to arrive. He ate 12, I had to throw the rest!. Nice video again Team Beastie.
