At first I thought "this is weird" but I couldn't stop listening!

Yes, the guitarist and the vocals are insane. But how tight is the rhythm section! It would not work without them, for sure.

On the other hand, if you were listening to Billie Holiday singing "Strange Fruit," and you didn't understand a word of English, you wouldn't come close to appreciating the song. Likewise "My Sex" by Ultravox.

I can’t understand why someone call this music weird?! WTF?! The kick ass. Absolutely.

Good stuff. There's a lot of Eighties New Wave in it, but there's nothing wrong with that. Other good Russian bands include Auktyon (АукцЫон) and Vezhlivy Otkaz (Вежливый отказ) - both are strange, brilliant, idiosyncratic, and unlike anything you'd hear in the West.

My thoughts exactly. I hear a lot of Talking Heads influence. Her wacky stage presence even has a bit of Byrne in it.

Not quite the Heads, I would say. Byrne & Co. always had a sort of funk-&-soul-filtered-through-art-school vibe to them, even on their more "rock" albums - you can tell they were absolutely nuts about black music. And, although they couldn't quite play it, they invented something else in the process of trying. ГШ (Glintshake), though, seem more like post-punk with a bit of music-school sophistication - they know what they're doing, rather than just coming up with stuff by ear.

When first track started playing, I thought I'm listening to Lizzy Mercier-Descloux. Totally agree with post-punk comment though. To your list of russian bands, I would add Tupiye (Тупые)

listen to the Moon Pierrot (Лунный Пьеро). there's a little influence from King Crimson.

Reminds me a bit more of No Wave rather than New Wave, though I think your music school sophistication comment is spot-on. Reminds me a lot of Massacre-era Fred Frith, James Chance and the Contortions, etc. These guys are dope and thanks for blessing the people with some band recs--I'll be checking them out!

It's inscrutable when it comes to certain genres. E.g., the Tchaikovsky Competition is among the few most prestigious classical music competitions. Russian black metal, especially the more nationalist kinds, is very prominent.

Ребзи, наконец-то! Вы очень круты!

Очень удивился когда увидел русские буквы в названии видоса кекса, а когда увидел что это русская группа вообще охренел. Соотечественникам однозначно лайк, порадовали своим появлением здесь. Да и музыка вполне себе неплохая у них для своего жанра.

Ураааа, горжусь ребятами! Палец вверх кто был на их концертах!

Sounds quite like Czech new wave from 80-ties. Pražský výběr, Dunaj, Stromboli. And a bit like Slovak Chiki liki tu-a. We are all inspired somewhere.
