G.C. Cameron - It's A Shame
Музыка
The wonderfully talented G.C. Cameron, who has been credited with having six different voices, joined The Spinners at Motown in time to sing lead on the original version of this classic hit song, "It's A Shame". When The Spinners left Motown to join Atlantic Records in 1971, G.C. remained with the company as a solo artist, enjoying five single releases on Motown's West Coast label, Mowest, and then eight more singles on the Motown label itself, including a duet with Syreeta, "Lets Make A Deal". There were also three albums released by Motown. Being married to Berry Gordy's sister, Gwen, made G.C. an important member of the Motown family. Since leaving Motown, G.C. released a much respected album on the Malaco label, and a much loved independant single on Paul Mooney's Ardent label, before recording for Motorcity between 1989 and 1992. In 1989 he topped the bill of our TV show in Detroit, in conjunction with Kelly and Company. G.C. released four singles on Motorcity, this one, our remake of his Spinners classic "It's A Shame", followed by "Good Times Up Ahead", "No Need To Explain" and his duet with Martha Reeves, "You're All I Need To Get By", and we also released two albums, "Right Or Wrong", and "The Best Of G.C. Cameron". A truly marvellous talent.

True he was with the Spinners before Phillpe Wayne took over. This is their biggest Motown hit.
HAPPY (70th) BIRTHDAY, G. C.!!! G. C.CAMERON (born 21 September 1945) G. C. Cameron is an American soul and R&B singer
This guy is all the spinners rolled up into one. Awesome voice and range.
The shame is that this very incredible singer doesn't make more stage appearances. G.C., you're still the best.
Like others have said - "Its a Shame" GC didn't make more appearances on stage, with or without the Spinners. Would have driven many miles to see him to relive those magical days....I think many fans would have come out of the woodwork to see him.
Wow. Just wow. Amazing voice!
Wow! This guy has some range!
Never tire of his voice.Handsome to.😄
I love the way G.C sings lead on The Spinners version of "In My Diary"

What a great performance. I've never see him live, or even a photo. He looks authentic lyrics 70s!
He can SANG and he good looking.
That's for sure! Nobody sings it like G.C.!
Have It!!! Great voice................................
Well its AWESOME! And I LOVE IT!!
Fantastic, I knew this song by the Spinners, but have never heard of G C Cameron until now. As a youngster in the 70s records got air time, but most of the times we never got to see the artistes, except for Top of the Pops, well that's from my perspective. Nonetheless, this man has an absolutely beautiful voice!
DAMN THIS IS SO GOOD!!
Brillante....Costa Rica
What a voice ! It's like honey being poured out on to velvet.

What a range he had/has......UNREAL .........pure talent !!!!!!
true, no one can sing like ruffin or G.C. but remember "I Want You Back" was written for the J5 but Ruffin gave a killer version on his "David" album but we'll never hear him sing this one though it's kind sad once you think about it
At 0:33, its like he's recalling a painful incidence with a particular woman...I know that feeling :) Rock on, G.C.
He also did the ORIGINAL "It's so Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" for the movie Cooley High. Check it out on the tube, folks!
i agree, he is just smooth, no need to shout and go crazy, just smooth vocals
Great stuff. Real singing, musicianship and arrangements. WOW. Thanks for posting.
Wow!!!!!
Beautiful!!!! Quelle voix!!!
l'ange aux mille voix!!!!!!!
The secular world is having the same promblem the gospel world is having, they are putting out crapy music heheheehhe I must admit in both worlds. Though I grew up in the church ,I grew up hearing Motown,STAXX ETC G.C CAMERON just brought back all kind of memories of my childhood. My god this man can still blow his behind off. I sat looking at my computer with my mouth hanging open, G.C you still got it you are just awesome. What are you doing now. Hope you;re still singing.you r gifted by god!
few people know that he lead for the Spinners on this song. still his best was It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday the main song in Cooley High.

Thanks for posting this Ian your a legend ! you once helped me out in 91 with a copy of David Ruffin`s Motor City release "Hurt the one you love".Nice to see the generous spirit is still there.
true fact...circa the time Stevie did For Once In My Life...you can actually hear similiar arrangment style. Too bad we have a lot of "stuff passing for music" these days. For those of us who were there ... LOL
2017.
when was this , I mean the year/month ?!
shits its my wifes account but no doubt she would agree
I have never felt GC since he left the Spinners around 1970. Otis made a bad decision taking him in. But I guess they get along (Otis loves to fire people)
It's a shame such a great vocalist has to sing over a crap synth version of the backing tune.

the pop songs like these of 80's era were CLASSIC now days artists like tiberlake and britney spears and beyonce all have degraded the pop singing. I LOVE POP SONGS OF 80'S ERA.
Philippé Wynne sang this song the best, my opinion!
