FWFS Get Salty, Spearfishing 8 1/2 Foot 7 Gill Shark, La Jolla, San Diego California

Our fist time in salt water. We went big.
( we harvested all the meat from this shark, what we couldn't fly home we gave to people on the beach as we were cleaning it it was delicious)

great job, I shot a twelve footer a couple of weeks ago you can view it by typing 7 gill spearfishing. By the way, they taste fantastic and make for a great bbq. They are aggressive at times and do bite.

Jonathan Heuberger this thing was huge at 8 1/2 feet. A 12 footer would be insane. And they do make a great bbq. We gave away a good amount of meat at the beach but still ate most of it ourselves.

According to the internets the longest 7 gill ever caught was 9.8 feet and the heaviest was 308 lbs(2nd was 276 lbs). So you shattered the longest 7 gill ever caught. And this guy's 300lber is the 2nd heaviest ever caught. Congratulations?

I have to laugh at the unnecessary comments left on here. The current members & past members of the Fresh Water Fish Slayers are such amazing individuals both in & out of the water. If you ever have the chance to find out what makes this group so incredible, feel lucky. Everyone will always have there own opinions on issues & that’s alright, it’s what makes us different. “ We all need to listen to understand more than to reply “. ✌️

Stay in Utah, freedive spear fishing is about connecting with the ocean, respecting it, and finding out who you are as a person, while it was a legal kill, it is still a shameful act in the spearo world...you don't need to kill everything you see, free diving is about so much more then what I just witnessed.

What makes the fish you shoot so different than the fish we shot in the video? Why is harvesting a shark and feeding ones family with it shameful compared to a white sea bass or yellowtail? Shooting one shark will not magically void the ocean of all 7 gills. I have as much respect for a fishery as anyone, I just don't buy into the delusion that it is somehow morally wrong to take one sustainable species of fish over another.

I guess it goes back to the old saying "Just because you can, does not mean you should" I see fish ALL the time that legally I am able to harvest but I hold off on taking a shot because sometimes you have to just sit there and admire the beauty in front of you and be happy with thankful with the opportunity to witness something very few people will ever get to do, being a spearo is being a part of a very few people, a group who really pride themselves on what they do and what we get to witness and be a part of, something most people will never get to experience without "KZread"....If you want to go kill everything in site, stay in Utah and stick with the carp

Hardly sustainable. I know this is old but, pelagic sharks take a real long time to mature let alone reproduce. Sharks are in decline worldwide and should be left alone for the near future. JMO.

one shark eh.. multiple sharks, not cool.. I kill a shark a year, myself on average, mostly because I hook one badly around once a year. this film would have made shark week if these goofs would have gotten it all wrong and been bitten/mangled.. then again..

Jeffrey Ramsower how is taking one shark of this species not sustainable? They are plentiful in Southern California. Divers report seeing them all the time, I even know someone who's dive partner was bitten by one. Also what makes you call it a pelagic shark? Pelagic sharks are more like makos, blues, or oceanic white tips.

You know...shooting 7 gills just..wrong. No true person of the ocean would kill a slow, lumbering, and largely unstudied creature. Even less celebrate the kill. Seeing them in La Jolla is a treat, don't take our treats away. Sell your boat, spearguns, and buy a clue.
