In addition, do not forget to check the fan drive oil level. The filler cap and dipstick are under the rear engine louver cover, in the corner of the fan deck. If the level is too low the fans do not turn and the engine will overheat.

A steering box hot check should also be carried out after driving for a while and the box is hot, oil seal leaks from the box can cause the bands to lock onto the drums and cause the vehicle to slew violently to one side. As happened to the 1RRF RSM's 342 MK1 in Petershagen 1981 stopping only feet from a house and I still have the pictures, that is also the reason the dipstick is accessed from the front so you do not need to open the front hatch..

OMD(oil mineral detergent) 40 was the oil specified by the MOD for this vehicle when it first entered service.Over the years the oils etc.have been changed and they receive a new number,so OMD 40 became OMD 75,then OMD80,and currently OMD90,but essentially they are all the same type of oil,so don't worry;you are not putting the wrong oil in it.If you can't get hold of OMD75 then just use OMD80 or 90?
