I couldn't figure out why anybody would waste time dictating stuff to your computer when you could type it 10 times as fast. I think it's more that people try to imagine what life would be like in the future, and these ideas are sometimes used in demonstrations like this. When technology catches up, the good ideas get made and the ones that suck don't. Star Trek didn't predict the flip phone, Motorola made what they remembered seeing on TV.

Nothing was toned down. Technology progresses on the same plane that society does. In the 1950's, with how society was living, we did fully picture flying cars, floating houses, and jet propulsion. They didn't call it the Space Age just for fun. After Kennedy was assassinated society was never the same, in the exact way after 9/11. People got more apathetic and cynical and stopped caring. It became a race to be the richest person at the bottom before a early death and a meaningless life.

In 1994, while working for AT&T, I visited the AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hills, New Jersey and that’s where, for the 1st time, I saw the 1st iPad and iPhone together with a mini show of some of their future applications in Real Estate and in Journalism. It was pretty impressive, so I laughed when the first iPad and iPhone came out for commercial use and Apple claimed to be the original creator. Of course, AT&T Bell Laboratories was sold so many times that somehow Steve Jobs was able to buy this technology and call it his own. Sure, Apple has perfected the technology, but the iPad and iPhone were not Apple’s original creation. In a way, that was a good thing because if it weren’t for Steve Jobs, this technology would have been junked into some basement and forgotten.
