Fusion Pioneers Vivian Lee - Plasma Facing Components

Ғылым және технология

‘It’s like a rocket re-entering the atmosphere from space, and greater than that’, is how our fusion pioneer, Vivian Lee, describes the thermal loads inside a fusion plant.
Vivian’s early interest in aerospace led her to a degree in aerospace engineering and a PhD in thermodynamics. She now leads a team working on Plasma Facing Components at Tokamak Energy and explains the work we’re doing to develop and manufacture components that will be able to withstand the extreme conditions inside a fusion power plant as we move closer to the commercialisation of fusion energy.

Hi Vivian! In the future this is going to be the biggest part of making fusion reactors economically viable. I hope that your company will allow you to publish information on this critical topic.

Hi, wonderful to see you guys are still at it. Do you coat these components that has a high damage load with nikasil or something, or has the material a high heat resistance in itself, or maybe both?

Thanks for the question. These components are usually made of refractory metals - a class of metals that have very high melting point and wear resistance.

@@tokamakenergy6400 thank you for your time, one more question, how is the temp difference between fully transformed plasma floating in the donut and the surface area of the wall panel components?

Interesting, but I don't know why this has subtitles glued into the video image. It would be better to provide the text, if the AI generated subs are not good enough, as part of the video metadata.
