My favorite part ; Garage set up...it can take several days to perfect what "you think", is going to be the perfect show...and then comes the hard part which never goes as expected----the sight set-up. There is always a child getting involved, an angry or curious parent, and someone who wants to get involved for no apparent reason. Then You get so nervous to light it that everyone notices your nervousness and tries to get involved . The only thing left to do now, is get drunk, and light the thing, sit back, and enjoy all your hard earned money go up in flames; some times litteraly. Such an important time of the year lol. I usually get away with setting it up right before dark lol, which makes sense, because my show is only half the size of yours; or at least it was last year. I just learned the hard way, not to fuse up a mortar rack down the line, as it goes WAY too fast. I'm going to fuse my mortar racks zig zag this year to spread out the timing. TrialnError I manually fire off the majority of my cakes and shells. I prefer emphasis on the effects rather than overlapping sky puke

that's a very good and involved timing scheme, I'm impressed. I just tie the spacer fuse to the second to last tube and never have more than a few seconds of deadtime between cakes. think you should save the lables

Good video bro, I started to fuse my 288 mortars yesterday, it takes some time :) I liked the idea of the excel spread sheet, that will help save some time of trying to remember and having to double and tripe check. Good Luck!

That many mortars then you should invest in some T joint clips and save the time. They work great in my tests so far. Just attach to the end of each fuse, drop in and clip to the pass fuse. Then just connect each row / rack to the ignition source as desired. Since they have all kinds of fuse speeds you can easily time the spacing.

Something I am doing this year to make great use of my firing system (discussing in a separate thread) is poke into the last tube and first tubes/rows of cakes and taking a piece of visco (whatever speed desired) and inserting from one cake to another. I will then tape the cakes together and insert an e-match into the initial cake so when I fire the first cake it will chain react with the others in that bunch.

Not on top rather into the lift cup... basically making a larger single cake rather than many smaller/bigger ones. You take the fuse and insert it INTO the lift of the next cake you want to use so when the last shot of the previous cake fires it ignites you're inserted fuse and lights the next cake.

tried this a few years ago with 5 cakes and failed miserably. i tried a new method by breaking into the cake and attaching quick fuse to the fuse that leads to the finale of the cake and it worked out perfect

Good video. For the first time, i'm going to a one fuse show. I can figure out the timing in between cakes, but what we dont know is the timing the cake fuse takes before the first tube ignites. Some may go in 4 sec and some may ignite in 8 sec. What do you recommend. The cake does'nt tell us.

Good vid. There are some firing system you could purchase off either Amazon or eBay, quite cheap actually. Something to play with prior to making the cobra move. Around 25 on eBay and 40 Amazon check em out!

Gotcha, I can dig it. I figured it would be best and easiest to do a pyro musical that way. Otherwise it would be hell to try and time all that via fuse or smaller systems. Althiugh, I know with the smaller one though you could always add additional systems or cues to one remote

Haha I hear that brother. I'll keep my eye out for ya! I've run a couple of shows w/ one fuse; I like the simplicity but I prefer the autonomy of electric systems. I'm prolly a year or two away from a cobra but it's coming!!

The 1200 cue 100 x 12 console is what I got. I have 6 set x 12 channel (4 each) remotes. I still pan to use fusing. I also have three 15 minute flares and a pencil tipped propane torch ready. Better to have too many options then not enough. After burning my hand using lighters, etc. I switch to a chefs torch but last year it stopped lighting reliably half way through so I went with a finger system and a full size torch from Home Depot. I have tested the firing system a few times, when legal, only.

I can spend over 2 months just making a $40.00 firework list.. can't imagine how long it takes to setup a show like this.. with my OCD.. this would kill me.. everything would have to be perfect.. then it starts getting bad.. and when I make my firework lists.. I go from each category.. Shells, 500g Cakes, 350g Cakes, 200g Cakes, Novelties, Sparklers, Roman Candles, Missiles.. it just is bad.. JK I don't have OCD.. I just organize my stuff good.. Nice boards!! Kind of late.. last year.. lol

PyroD Nite....I do the same....but i have like 2 or 3 lists of 200g,350g,500g, zipper cakes and shells.....Listed with prices so I have an economy list, a mid priced list and my dont give a F*#! price list....lol

I hope you see this, video is a few years old but I have a question. Say you need excess fuse for timing. For example, say you need 25 inches of fuse burn time. I notice you just tape fuse on the sides of your cakes? Is this safe/non distracting to the show itself and most efficient way to have fuse continously burning to give time for the next cake?

How do you get the burn time other than had using them before?

FYI New COBRA Firing System is designed to support pyromusicals. It's also designed to expand over time. You could start with just 1 remote and 1 module (~$600 total) and then buy more modules later (~$200). Each module can support up to 18 cues and each cue can fire up to 4 igniters. COBRA even designed software specifically for pyromusicals. If you're serious about timing and coordination, you should really think about investing a bit each year. It's definitely not the $2000 nightmare you think it is.

I am currently using the cobra pyromusical scripting software has all the pre-ignition times durations of cakes and lift times and fireworks all saved in the program so no more need to watch videos and time them great product easy to use

How do I buy straight from the maker?

I notice your product comes from BIGS Fireworks. I hope you buy enough to get the wholesale pricing. My family and I have been going through BIGS for years and love all of their products. They do great work. Especially their Neon Tracers. If you're looking for some good ground stuff, you gotta try Tommy Rocks. Fantastic crackle cake.

How do u find out the time of cakes other than trying to time the cakes from watching KZread vids?

impressive ! do you cheek the timing of each pack of fuse, they can very from batch to batch i would assume. do you do something special to your fuse unions to insure a fire hand off.

Michael John Not only can they vary from batch to batch, the temperature and humidity can also greatly affect visco. And if you tape on top of fuse and seal it, it burns quicker as well.

It also limits any errors to just that portion of the show so it does not cascade through all the fireworks. At least that is part of my think for mixing techniques.

Jeez!! Is this like $10,000 worth of fireworks?? I spent almost a grand and didn’t get near that much… and it’s at the cheapest store in the Gulf Coast - Shelton Fireworks.

I've watched a lot of fusing videos, but I've never seen or heard of anyone saying how long the fuse on the cake takes to burn.

Where did you go to find out that specific info about the burn time on those cakes? I am slowly trying to figure this out to take my show to that "next level" but just not sure where to start looking. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Hmm....well I guess that is one way to do it LOL. I have a lot of video watching to do now since I have like 30 cakes to look at. I think I will just decide what my finale needs to consist of and work on those this year.

Yeah, I usually look for the videos too. It's time consuming, but worth it. 200 gram cakes seem to vary anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds.... and 500 gram anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute or longer.

Do your fuse lengths take into account the burn time for the fuse attached to the cake?

I dont think so those fuses are very short. But I bet he cuts it open where the fuse is and and fuses straight to the internal fuse then tapes the box close

I have a challenge for you, build a electronic firing system. If anyone can it would be you.

TrialnError yea I typically watch every video as well so i know where i want each thing but to take the times down made a lot of sense so i can make the show even better and start doing the whole show like this instead of just the finale lol keep up the good work can't wait to c ur show

Here's an interesting issue. Taking the tops off consumer fireworks sometimes create an interesting problem. That top is also there to prevent sparks from getting into the mortar and pre-,ignite the shells. You may save some cleanup, but at the same time, you also run the risk of a runaway show. Why not just get a license and use pro fireworks, rather than doing shows will little 200 gram cakes meant for the backyard?

500G cakes are what are used a lot along with mortars, etc. It is mostly a labor issue. Actually 200G and mortars offer you much more BO then 500G. I rtpucal 200G cost $3-6 which means you pay 1.5 - 3 cents per G but 500G costs $20 which is 4 cents per G. Mortars are about 2 cents per G.

Is there a reason you do all cakes and no shells?

Can't speak for him, but sometimes it's just easier and cheaper. Shells have huge breaks, but you have to consider the hdpe tubing, racks, and all of that fusing can be time consuming and expensive. The racks and hdpe tube are reusable so if you plan on doing a show every year it's not a bad investment.

How do you find out how long each cake will last, besides testing each one?

Here's the problem with shooting a cake and then thinking it's the same always. It isn't. I don't care what brand of cake it is, I've never seen two consumer type cakes shoot the same time wise.That's why we use quick matched racks with E-match ignitors in pro shows.

Or...get an RC car with a lit Cuban cigar taped to the front end, and cover it with a pie tin to shield it, stand back about 50 feet & drive it to each cake! Easy $30 solution...plus it's fun to drive the RC car from cake to cake under a shower of sparks!

Well, during a fireworks show people seem to like watching fireworks more than the blank sky. It's just my opinion but I try like hell to minimize any dead air.

@@Ninja9687_ No offence at all! I just reread it and could see how it came off snarky. Dead air is really hard to avoid when long fusing and to me it's a big deal.
