Thanks, it's fairly straightforward and once you do it, it'll be a quick job the next time around. I think next time I'd probably be able to do both forks in an hour maybe less.

Thanks. It's not easy getting all the clips and explanations while doing the maintenance the first time. Hopefully it'll still be a help to someone trying to do this. Cicadas = the sound of summer in Japan. :)

Excellent video! My VTR250 arrives in a few days and I am thinking that I will be doing the front fork oil change soon after... Is it an oil and seals change every 10,000km or just oil?? I suppose if the seals are worn, then they need to be replaced regardless... I'll be using your video in my garage to redo my front forks for sure! Thanks for making this video 🙂

Awesome and very educational video! Ive just changed my VTR 250 fork oil seals following this video! Wondering what aftermarket handlebar do you have on your VTR?

Glad you found it informative. I just changed the front fork oil (after about 25,000 km). The seals are still good. The handling is much better. The handle I have now I got at a second hand shop and it came with the brace, so I can't say for sure what the brand is. But it looks like a Hardy handle, which might be sold only in Japan. Not sure.

This is awesome, i have a vfr i need to redo oil and seal, this helps alot! did the 2000grit sandpaper work on the fork tubes without damage?

I think if you're gentle with the sandpaper 2000 or higher, then you should be able to polish it with compound or a similar polish to get it real clean.

How much fork oil goes into 1 fork?

Do you really need to pound that seal in like that?! Did you put anything on the seal to avoid damaging it as you sent it home? Also, why did you need to raise the rear wheel of the bike? Stability? Thanks, I like your vids and am looking to do this seal renewal soon. I have one that’s leaking badly, and anyway they are due for it...

VTR250はとても楽しいバイクですよ。このバイクは’９７−’９９年の初期モデルです。マフラー、アンダーカウルなど変えましたのでちょと見た目は違います。 エンジンカバーとフロントフォークはゴールドになってるのは’９７−’９９年で、エンジンカバーとフロントフォークがシルバー変わったのは２０００年モデルからです。２００２年のモデルからタコメーター付きです。

What kind of oil is used to replace?

+Michael Laguna The service manual calls for Honda Ultra Cushion Oil #10. I used Yamaha Suspension Oil G-10, as that's what others use here in Japan and is easier to buy online.

+Yuta Hisada Not American, but a lot of people say I sound like I'm from California. I'm in Kashiwa in Chiba. I sometimes make it out to Yokohama. The VTR250 is a great bike. Good luck with the maintenance.
