I found doing a quarterly sale out of my garage works great.

That’s great! The first sale I had was similar to that- I fixed up my yard and shed and made it all cute, advertised it as a “Cottage Sale”. I wasn’t able to do another bc we moved shortly after, but I think something like that has real potential if you keep it going and promote it well :)

How did you market the show? I like this idea but how do you bring in buyers?

This was a great video. I’ve started doing Etsy recently. Fb marketplace was great for learning how to do this but all the haggling and messages and no-shows, let’s just say I think I’d rather ship furniture then rely solely on FB

Yes…the back and forth, and sometimes flaky no shows on FB marketplace can be super frustrating, for sure. Good for you on branching out onto Etsy!

I go to antique malls often and unfortunately I see a lot of damaged painted furniture (and substandard redone furniture) from foot traffic and careless people. I saw a woman excited about buying a piece of $500 painted furniture and as the transaction was being made, she noticed a significant scratch and dent in one of the legs and a peeling of a transfer and that ended that deal.

Yes, that can happen for sure 😩 If you’re gonna sell painted furniture, it needs to be done well and properly sealed, etc so it lessons the chance of damage from normal Items being set on it. It’s always good to keep and eye on your pieces and make sure they haven’t been damaged :)

This is an excellent summary with useful information. Shipping furniture has always been an enormous challenge for me. I personally could never make the numbers work.

Like I said in the video, tried it once and decided it wasn’t for me 😂 But I know others who that’s their main source of sales 🤷🏼‍♀️ So I think it just really depends on your target market and margins on your pieces

I’ve shipped one piece so far, and yes it was a learning process, but I think for me it’s going to be worth it. I’m just not knocking my prices down anymore to cater to Facebook buyers, some who want to spend $100 on 40 hours of work.

Loved hearing the pros and cons of each... It would be super fun if you ended up with 3 pieces that were the same or similar to see if they sell better on Craigslist, fb, or the booth.
