Dude hell fricken yes. I have been dealing with this since I got home from work, however when I spin it by hand it goes for about a minute then stops. I’m gonna try a new capacitor anyways and see if that works. Thank you!

My fan will only come on if set to "on" not "auto" what could be causing that issue? My a/c works fine in on or auto...its just the heat in auto isn't working. I changed out the thermostat because that was the reason last time this happened but it didn't resolve the issue this go around. Any ideas to steer me in the right direction?

I have the same exact problem, and virtually the same furnace. (looks like a Magic Chef from early to mid 80's?) I will let you know how I make out...

Dang I thought I had the only surviving Magic Chef furnace out there LOL I ended up replacing the entire furnace about 14 months later. They apparently increased the gas pressure here and the valve couldn't take it so it kept the igniter burning like a pilot light which kept the sensor hot and it would go into shutdown. Took me 3 evenings to replace it all by myself. That thing was a beast.

You did your own install? You're my hero. The HVAC trade is so anti-diy, it is sickening. What part of the country are you in? I am an elevator installer in nyc. I know that doesn't make me an hvac guy, but I am not intimidated by a gas connection, 120vac, and some sheet metal. Especially if I start in April and finish by October. I am concerned about permits, insurance issues. What brand furnace did you go with? Oh, and did that capacitor do the trick?

Funny story about the cap. It did fix the issue but suddenly the furnace got loud when it was running, like a rumble sound. Everything I found said the blower cage had fins loose or something. Even though I couldn't find anything, I replaced it and no change. When I was driving home one day I realized the sound of my out of balance tire sounded like my furnace. I started examining the motor and found the shaft had play in it and I could push it in and out. I got lucky and found an EXACT replacement on ebay that was new in the box for like $60. From what I deduced, the bad capacitor had been keeping the motor from reaching the 2nd and 3rd stage when running. It's my understanding the three different wires on the motor were tapped in at different points and were a 2nd and 3rd stage. When I replaced the cap, it allowed it to run faster and revealed the noise. And yes, I replaced the unit by myself. COMPLETELY by myself, no help whatsoever. I live in Louisville, KY and I found an HVAC guy in Cincinnati who had a Goodman furnace I bought for $250, just had to drive 90 minutes to pick it up. It was only like 4 years old . It wasn't the most efficient I could get but it was affordable for me at the time and was WAY more efficient than the old one. I pretty much learn whatever I have to learn to do something like this. I knew it was just a 120V circuit, the gas line and the thermostat (which I replaced a few years ago). I had installed a gas hot water heater before so it didn't take much for me to do this. I think in the end it cost me about $650 to do it all. The vent pipes and the sheet metal to make the part that connected the furnace to the AC core part were stupidly expensive, just tons of little costs that added up. Toughest part was the AC core was on top of the furnace so I had to attach ratchet straps to the floor joist and lift it off the old furnace, then build the box out of sheet metal to make up the gap since the new furnace was shorter. I also gently cleaned out the underneath of the A-core which had tons of dust and cat hair in it from being so old. All that made a huge difference in how much air it moves.

Picture of the finished product. You're not really supposed to use that flex hose on a furnace but for the most part things like that are regulations to force you to use a certified person to plumb in the pipe directly to the furnace. photos.app.goo.gl/EnuU7tnpmHsMTLiI3
