I used to hate missing movie trailers in the theater, but now sitting through 30 minutes of trailers I've already seen online is pure torture. Not to mention all the ads. I saw Furiosa at an independent theater and they only showed three and no ads. A way better experience.

The problem is that movie trailers suck now. Back in the 90s, yes it's true that they weren't online. But the trailers overall were better. Now I don't even bother to watch trailers because they suck.

"Furiosa" is one of those unfortunate cases where, had WB actually allowed Miller the opportunity to shoot back-to-back with "Fury Road," or as close as possible, "Furiosa" would probably be fairing better, and the praise it's receiving would be reflected in the numbers. But between its development hell and all hell breaking loose in Hollywood at the dawn of the 2020s, it feels very much like a "strike while the iron's cold" situation. Waiting 9 years for something that should've come out no later than 2 or 3, and leaving broader audiences wondering "where Max tho?" Lol.

The title character of an action movie being a little girl wbo scowls isn't an enticing proposition for a mainstream audience. Imagine Terminator with a miffed child in the lead instead of Schwarzenegger. These things matter, you can't just swap everything on fairness grounds and expect the same result. On top of that, people forget Mad Max was always niche, doing much better on tv and vhs. Fury Road was the anomaly.

This is really a crisis for the film industry. I don't think there was real audience for a Furiosa film, a Mad Max film without Mad Max, except for that cameo.

The movie theatre experience is terrible. Tickets are overpriced, with WAY too many trailers and adverts, and that ticket price does not guarantee a good experience. Other patrons talk, send & reply to messages on their phones etc etc. In New Zealand it's $33.50 for an adult to watch Furiosa. About the same price as a main meal at a mid-budget restaurant. For that, can't they employ an usher to keep people behaving all through the movie? But no, they do nothing, and people are so addicted to their phones that they have to check them every 5-10 mins. It's too distracting. So I stay home and wait til the rental window. Fix the theatre experience, and I'll come back.

The economy, the convenience of staying home and waiting for digital or streaming release are definite factors. But there's another element crippling the movie going experience/business that's being waged on two fronts that I know you don't get into on your channel (with good reason) and that is the so-called culture war being fought thru what used to just be entertainment. The reviews for Furiosa are either, "It's woke garbage", from those of a particular political bend, who, because it has a woman in it, automatically gets cast as being "anti-male"... if you're oblivious to those channels and "reviewers", you must be living under a rock... or they're honest reviews from people who've actually seen it without seeing everything thru political filters, all of which LOVE the film. Hollywood has damaged their brand by producing films which do actually push "the message", which is akin to a religious-themed film, that's only going to appeal to the "believers". That has driven a lot of people not only out of the theaters, but out of giving Hollywood any of their money and now they only seek out "review" channels that reinforce their own cult mentality that everything is "woke". They're the Right's version of "Woke", and they apparently can't see it. The rest of us are caught in the wasteland between and OUR enjoyment of films is being/will be affected going forward due to this war. Because, as you pointed out and have said many times before... if people don't get their butts out of their chairs and off their couches and go see films like Furiosa in the theater, there won't be any more Furiosas for the people not in either (political) cult to see in the future. Which, frankly, makes me despise both "sides" even more than I already do. Hopefully, Furiosa has legs and people will go see it after hearing how good it is, like Godzilla: Minus One and Dune Part 1.

@@toddblankenship7164 It might surprise you to know that artists don't create things "you asked for". That's called, "product" (see also: Disney). You knew it was a prequel, and had the choice to stay home, but you chose to go see it anyway. Why if it wasn't a sequel and something "you asked for"? Maybe to feed the disappointment that so many people thrive on, nowadays, instead of just enjoying life as it comes at you?

As for the box office, I know it had a disappointing opening, but people need to stop being skeptical if a film bombs at the box office. They have to wait until the end of their box office runs and see if they made its budget back (via worldwide numbers) and become a success. Film studios that belong to major conglomerations need to just accept the Disney model that all movies aren't really going to make a profit but the larger point is positive brand recognition. Amazon does that I think - they spend their shipping war chest and serve up art at a loss because they know it helps grow their brand as a whole. The interconnectivity of their business can have the film department be the 'loss leader'. Incidentally the same phenomena they started is what drove the price of filmmaking up so high by them offering up such generous bounties for production.

And it's going to be the longest film in the franchise, at nearly 2.5 hours (red flag). If the movie title says "Miss Moneypenny", then it's a Miss Moneypenny movie.

Why do you keep contradicting yourself? You want the movie to perform well, so hollywood will make more original ideas. And if it doesn't, then hollywood will keep making sequels and reboots. But because this movie performed poorly, George Miller wont make yet another mad max sequel. Do you see how that makes zero sense?

Actually IMDb says George Miller's "Mad Max: The Wasteland" is in production.

People are sick of EVERY movie being another girlboss movie. It's like the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Even when you actually make a good girlboss movie, people are just going to ignore it, because the last 20 movies they've seen have been shitty girlboss movies.

A bad male led movie would do better, hmmmm, like Fury Road. We want variety. They keep making the same movie.
