Furi Symbolism, Lore, and Philosophy, Part 1: The Chain

Ойындар

My analysis of the symbolism, lore, and philosophy of Furi as revealed through its story, world, characters, and monologue. A chain constrains, but also connects.
I must assume that you, the viewer, have personally played and completed Furi. If you have no intention of ever playing Furi, I strongly suggest you at least watch a full walkthrough video -- you can fast-forward through the battles if you're in a hurry. However, if you've played and yet not completed Furi, I think that watching these episodes as you progress through the game will compel you to continue.

    I think this is backed up by an unused voice line in the game files, where The Chain says: "I saw what you did outside. That was _messed up._ So how do you like it when I do it to _you?"_

    The Inhuman One has another lore video about The Chain where he goes into much greater detail about the masks and their effect on his character and combat. He also asserts that the symbols on the circle are Pi and Equals, which fits nicely (and given so much has double meaning in the game, is not necessarily inconsistent). Go check out his video, too. Anything else I missed, this is the thread for it!

    Please consider continuing this series! I would really like to your thoughts on the rest of the bosses symbolism and meaning. I feel like a lot of people don't really seem to realize that the bosses of Furi are meant to teach the player something. I realize this, but I honestly have trouble telling *what* is the lesson you're supposed to get from each.

    You've done a remarkable re telling of the inner depths of this portion of the game. I am hoping to find in the later videos that you touch up on the strong connotations I felt from the story highly emphasized from fight to fight, a coming into ones own and the undertones of both masculine and feminine maturity including the necessity of acceptance of evil in oneself, the humility to choose your sacrifice despite the transgressions you will commit in your resolve.

    @@ElBromoHojo I would love to see more content like this with the level of attention to detail and multi dimensional insight you capture across multiple platforms and franchises (because you get it) not only limited to Furi. I haven't seen any channels really hit the mark of multi dimensional analysis as well as you which has led me to shy away from narrative videos in the past. When you do something as well as you have with these two videos it becomes something of an art. I would hate to un see what could have been from a content creator that is worth their salt. @@SimplyObligation Again thanks for the kind praise. I started this series because I felt a great urgency to point out a host of things I had noticed after endlessly listening to the non-commentary playthrough for years while I worked. I also noticed they were things nobody else had mentioned. I was sure somebody would beat me to it. (I still feel that way!) I see a lot of lore videos online for other games like the Dark Souls series, but I never see anyone going into the actual symbolism of games, which is much more interesting in my opinion, because it's there whether the creators intended to put it there or not!

    His main mask is also the Noh mask that represents a woman. His second mask represents an old man. Does The Chain say genderfluid rights?

  • @ElBromoHojo

    @ElBromoHojo

    3 жыл бұрын

    I know you're just making a jab, but the sex of the mask is chosen as appropriate to reinforce its meaning. Purity and innocence are coupled with youth and (sometimes) femininity. Wisdom with an old man. The third/Hannya mask is also feminine because of the intensity of the emotions it conveys and represents either torment (obsession, jealousy, etc) or sorrow depending on the angle and tilt shown to the audience. It would have been nice to work that last bit in somehow, but there isn't really a shot that emphasizes that sorrowful angle, unfortunately. However, you can glimpse a little bit of that effect at 4:57 on his Okina mask. Thanks for the comment!
