Growing up, this was one of the few shows I was allowed to watch in our conservative home. When Mama's Family became its own phenomenon, I watched every episode. Carol, Vicky, and Betty are all legends.

As a kid in the 70's I begged my parents to let me stay up on Saturday to watch Carol. I always hoped for a Family sketch or movie parody! They let us with🍿 Event 📺!

Pure comedic gold. I wish there was a DVD you could buy that had all of the uncut "The Family" episodes on it. There's like 31 or 32 episodes.

Yes! I was hoping Time Life would've compiled that, when the SPECTACULAR release of the lost Carol B. Show episodes (a set with like 15 DVDs, I love it!) was done some years back. They also released Mama's Family and could've done it then! But it didn't happen! There's always tomorrow - I wish they'd do it. The Family sketches were one of the best things about the show...Carol has said that it was based on her own family (mother and grandmother) but it was actually originated by one of their writers, Dick Clair, who died in 1988 but is cryogenically frozen!! His mother was apparently much like Mama, which Vicki then made her own. Dick and his writing partner Jenna McMahon wrote most or maybe even all of the family sketches.

@@ChildofGodforevr no, unfortunately they don't. Carol Burnett doesn't own the rights to The Family skits. There is no dvd containing all The Family skits and certainly not of them unedited.

The Family is my favorite thing that was created on The Carol Burnett Show. It is fantastically funny, outrageous humor that's based on dysfunction and toxic family members; we can all relate to this from our own relatives ... or from seeing the behavior of neighbors or friends we've observed in our lives. Big thanks to the writers and the cast for these laughs. Eunice, like Charlie Brown, can never win. And we love her dearly-- warts and all.

The family "Restaurant" sketch was a really good one. Eunice was always sort of a tragic figure. She never quite got what she wanted out of life, having to deal with Ed and Mama on top of her own litany of issues. The final shot of her looking back at the dining room after they'd been kicked out is just a bit on the side of heartwrenching! Everyone's heart went out to her!

Nostalgia now. Back then some people after work saw sitcoms like this one as being part of their mental wellness program while for example working as a seemstresses in the back room of an off the rack dress shop where customers could get their new clothing properly fitted or after working in an in store lunch counter.
