Funny how naive humans can be about animal behavior. He is CLEARLY annoyed by her constant lunging, squeezing, and darting kisses. When a dog licks their lips, (the way THIS beautiful Shepherd has been displaying), it is a gesture of being uncomfortable with what the girl interprets as "cute." Humans always have to press their luck, even after being warmed.

It really looked like the dog had enough after the first few seconds.

He’s very cute and behaved really good for being pushed to the edge. You don’t want him to develop anxieties. He’s trying to let you know ‘enough’ when he tries to retreat like that.

Seems to me that he is annoyed and wants to be left alone. One cue is his tail isn't wagging. Second cue is he moves away, or tries to, several times. And no, he wasn't putting up with it. He was telling her in a very gentle way to give him space. Dogs need space and boundaries, too. Poor Rocky, I felt and feel your pain.

I love German shepherds. They are beautiful and such fun.

I sense that he is trying to escape to a place of peace, by constantly moving from one end of the sofa to the other. If he enjoyed it, he would root at your hand to give him more, but the whining means that he is obedient to his mother, imitates your whining, but does not want to play at this time. He also has his tail in the down position, as in fear. Look at the Dog Whisperer to learn more about a dogs body language.

@Anja Funny, because he could just step off the couch and go to his own space, but he also likes the couch, and the attention, and petting, but perhaps not so vigorously.

A friend of my dad had a German Shepherd named Bronzo. We loved the dog. One night, Bronzo went to sleep and did not wake up the next day. He just passed away, despite being 4 years old. Take good care of Rocky and be there for him.

I'm sorry for Bonzo's passing at such an early age. Four years old is way too young to have passed. He might have ingested a toxin or something that causes a heart attack. I'm confident we will see Bronzo again when we get to heaven. I never met Bronzo. But I feel like I know him through your heart felt testimony. Now let us pray 🙏. Thanks 👍

My dad visited the dog a week prior to his death, and Bronzo was your typical healthy German Shepherd that loves to play. His passing took everyone by surprise. If you have a dog, or any animal companion, please take good care of them.

There is NOTHING more affectionate and fun to play with on planet Earth than a German Shepherd - nothing and no one! I've owned 5 in my 75 years and I wish I'd owned 10 times that many...

I don't think GSDs are hunting dogs - they were bred for shepherding (I guess the clue is in the name) but are also good police and guard dogs.

Lovely dog - but he clearly does not enjoy the rough “cuddling”.

Literally in every video I've seen of this dog, he's being tormented, teased and made to feel insecure. Whilst I don't proclaim to be any kind of dog specialist, I grew up with dogs and know quite a lot about nervous system responses to trauma and threat. He looks agitated and is just about doing his best to use his doggy social engagement system to politely get some peace. To me, it's simple. If a human or a pet looks and acts relaxed and as if they're lapping up all your cuddles, then you know you've hit the sweet spot. When they're agitatedly running around in what looks like a confused state and you're not going all out to be calming, then you know you're probably upsetting them, and that's probably not the intention. We all need to get better at reading energy and body language.

I am so sorry that I somehow failed to fully understand, and be more empathetic towards this precious German Shepherd! 💔 Just to reiterate, I do believe that this dear couple genuinely loves and provides well for their animal family!! 🥰 However, it seems there is reason for concern, especially as it relates to Rocky. Rocky is a very handsome, sweet boy.

Tiny whiny baby Rocky is now so big! Grew up too fast and too soon! But is still a baby at heart.

I also had such a dog once. With my perception it looks more as if the dog wants to say "Mom, leave it, I do not want now". It doesn't seem like the dog enjoys it, but the mom does.

Human why are you so annoying to that adorable German sherpard.

As a person who grew up with a dog from a young boy to being a teenager and owning a German Shepherd as a young married man I knew when to stop teasing those dogs. Never got bit by either dog, but they let me know with snarling and growling when it was time to back off. I think you need to learn this lesson before it is to late , to have to have this dog put down because he has bit somebody is unthinkable and criminal on the owners part not the dog. This is one of the most loyal breeds you will ever own in your life, so please respect his life.

It's funny, we've had three German Shepherds now and when I think of them, I think of this *exact* gutteral noise, the deep (but almost mournful), "rwoow, rwoow, rwooow." 🐕‍🦺🥺🥰
