I once bought a lovely, well-established catmint plant for my garden. It was rolled on and chewed and vandalised to death by my cat and neighbouring cats till there was no sign it had ever existed. 😄

@@cybercat29 My 2 plants grow in the strawberry cage I got outside here in New Zealand. They are in the pots now. Autumn now, but they growing bigger nad I might consider to make another cage especially for them.As my cat hangs around the strawberry cage very often. I give him some fresh oer dried leaf time to time.

We have a 16lb Maine Coon male and you have not lived until you see a big cat like that with the zoomies. That said, catnip is something he will nibble at and maybe roll in it a bit but mostly he does not change from his sweet demeaner.

I have a large orange tabby. He lets the other cats chase him off his dinner plate, off the bed, and away from toys. He will defend the catnip to the death though.

Fun fact cat nip tea is a thing...for humans and its good. Just expect to fight the cats for it lol.

It's weird seeing these cats have such a positive reaction to it. When I gave some to my adult cat she sniffed it, sneezed and proceeded to compeltely ignore and avoid it, going so far as to even skipping the step it had laid on for a solid week. 😅

Don't worry that your cat is not interested in catnip. My, Inky, who I believe is an alien, will sniff the catnip nibble a little, then just goes about his business. I sprinkle a bit on new things like scratching posts to get him interested in the item, but the catnip mice, balls, and fish just clutter the rooms of my house. If he ever acted like the cats in the video, I might think he's close to normal.

I grew catnip once. There was a flattened bare spot in the garden for weeks, just flat ground, no sticks left. Took 3 days.

I grow 2 little plants in the pots.Put them inside the cage where I grow strawberries(here in New Zealand birds destroy berries quickly).The catnip plants growing quickly in spite of the autumn season now.My cat hangs around the cage. He gets some fresh or dried leaves time to time and we all have fun).Pleasant smell and drink for humans as well)

Our cat doesn't really care about catnip. On the other hand if we use bleach around the house, he picks up on it and comes sniffing at the bleach. Proceeded by rolling around, meowing and purring. When his "buzz" wears off, he'll just come back to sniff another dose. 🤪

I once heard that if a cat does it too much or too many times, sometimes the cat will become immune to the effects and that cat will forever lose the ability to feel the effects from catnip. I'm not sure if it's true or how much catnip it takes over time to cause the sudden immunity, so it might be good to look into it 1st before getting your cat stoned out of its mind every day.. heheh..

So a quick fact for you. since there was a false fact in the video.... catnip can indeed become addictive for some animals. And not just cats. No I don't mean go smoke your cats stash lol. Horses and other quadrupeds have been known to return to patches of catmint... cat nip to consume it repeatedly. Every animal is different. As not all cats are even interested in it. But hay some humans have no interest in grass lol. Cat nip, like anything that can create a pleasant sensation, can become habit forming. Wich leads to addiction. If behaviors become unpleasant before giving item or when not given item it is time to remove item from regular use as it is becoming an addictive substance for the individual. Addiction is a behavioral pattern that becomes a sensation of need where it is unnecessary. This is why some people are addicted to soda while others are not.
