Playing football thru 5th-12th grade didnt prepare me for the time i was on the kick return front lines to eventually block for the return man but the kicker booted it like a soccer ball right at me as i was getting ready to backpedal as we returned the kick. The ball skipped at me and it took a weird football like bounce right before it ricocheted off my knees and they got the ball back and i never played on kick return again.

I think the point of that was to show that if the defender didn't grab the face mask, the play would've been a safety and he wouldn't have a reason to celebrate. You simply look dumb if you celebrate because of an opponents mistake, not your success
