Good ole Funk Pups, ribbed for "Ear pleasure".
I installed a set of Funky pups in my car back in the 90's. The bass hit me so hard I got a concussion. Now I smell colors.

This kit is actually what caused the TITAN SUBMARINE to collapse in the lase days!. Apparently a guy played 4 of these in his cigarette boat. The shockwave reached Canada east coast and the backwave combined with the wave from the boat sub were in phase exactly at the deep of the TITAN sub position. 😮

Hahahaha
Once those bad boys get moving they actually drop to negative 4 ohms. The coils actually generate more energy than they use and you can disconnect your battery and alternator and just run your car off the subs until the bass stops.

I’ve never heard about funky pups, I’d love to see a separate video on them Big D. 💯👍👍
My favorite part was the "evil knob." 😂 I laughed all the way through this video. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane BigD!! 💪🔥
Having experienced Pyramid back in the early 90's, this thing actually put out a lot more power than I was expecting.

@@darrellcook9830 I've got a handful on my shelf, bought on eBay to fix for fun. Now that they work, no idea what to do with them lol. Phoenix Gold, Alpine, MTX, Rockford..
My fondest memory of Pyramid brand was this little 4x5" Pyramid Gold amp that i gutted, and ran the speaker wires from my hidden US Amps through.. OG 90s troll style, once they got the confused look on their face i always said "man you haven't heard of these Pyramid Gold series?? HUGE power for their size!" 😂

So why did you guys use hidden amps? I could see of you were in some kind of competition, but what was the purpose of using a more powerful amp, and displaying a different one that wasn't running the subs? I'm just curious.
I think we just have the same sense of humor or satire or something... I just laughed through the whole episode. Instant classic. Thumbs Up!
I remember the flea market having stacks of Pyramid gear, you could build an entire system with subs and separates and multiple amps for about 43$😂😂😂and it sounded like a 34$ system

Definitely do a video on the funky pups in a box. Great video, good laughs, always top notch content💯👍
they definitely capture that 80s/90s/2000s visual style from all the flea market specials. you might not be able to rattle the block, but at least you could look 'good' trying to cope.
That's "double" ZERO ohms resistance! Just kill'n me man. Never forget, I had just purchased my fist RF Punch 225.2 and was really excited when a friend came by and said, you paid how much for that? Look at this Royal Pyramid PB-545 I got. Puts out twice the power of your amp at half the price! I was like, yep, you did it again (snicker, snicker)!
After being a professional installer since 1987, you made me giggle when I see Pyramid! Lol! So much pawnshop stuff have I seen... so much. It would be hilarious if someone sent you an "Alphine"... so funny

Gotta test the 😂pyramid super blue 15s!
Thanks for the video Big D. I really enjoyed the editing, super funny!
My first car amp in the 80's was a Pyramid 4 channel rated 100x2 and 50x2 (yeah right!) I blew one of the 50 watt channels on the first day I had it, but the rest of the amp powered a pair of 6x9s for a while until I got some "real" amps. Looks like they still haven't improved much. I would like to see those funky pups in a proper enclosure and see what SPL you can get out of them until they let the smoke out.
I always felt bad seeing someone proud as punch over their pyramid amp back then. The chrome bass knob reminded me of the audiobahn amps around the same time, have you done a video with one of those?
Dam bro, those funky pups are hittin hard at zero ohm no impedance!
I love it and definitely would love to see a video of them funky pup subs in a box with that amp 😊

Too risky! We already lost one Submarine.
In the 1990s, I had a Pyramid amp mounted in view. I had a Hiphonics amp in the trunk pushing 4 12' subs mounted isobarically. Local car audio shop sold a ton of Pyramid amps, lol.
My brain melted while those FunkyPups were hitting
I see this was kept from us common people... for three days. Entire video was oozing with sarcastic tones. Pyramid delivering as expected.
Just the intro and I’m loving it!
I liked the clear polypropylene cones on some of the cheap Pyramid subs from back then 88-93
A buddy of mine growing up had pyramid amps that were actually kinda impressive. They were purple and white. It was in the late 90s so hard to remember but I think they were four channel? He had one on each of his 15" Orion XTRs in a huge sealed box.

man this is the brand of my first builds! i remember the huge 6x9 speakers whit the tiny pink amp and rolling around whit my friends listening to heavy metal in the rust bucket i had lol good times. at least they look good XD
That thing kind of looks like a drone, lol
Man I was really concerned regarding you running the red funky pups in an enclosure especially already knowing that the Royal was going to unleash the beast when bridged😉. I'm in Florida and I do not have earthquake insurance. So thank you for that! This is your best video by far!!! Thank you for the laughs!!! I'ma go watch it again👍.
Fun fact. James Birch, founder of JL audio, took most of his design and engineering queues from Pyramid. Mostly around this amp and the Super Pro woofer being the main inspiration for the 13TW5.
Some of your best work Big D! Also super blue FTW!!!
Hello friend😊,i had one back in the days, pushing a 12 inch, your vids bringing memories
A friend of mine in the early 90s had a pair of Pyramid 15s free air mounted on a board behind the back seat in the trunk of a Dodge Monoco powered by a Pyramid amp. That cheap stuff hit hard!
Those funky pups bringing the noise.used to see these at the San Jose swap meet in 91 to 92.these were like the BTA speakers.boom town audio.another swap meet brand 😂
This cudeo made my day Big D. Loved it. Masterpiece.
I love how you're flexin your Funky Pup ownership on your homepage banner 🔥
I have the American Legacy LA790, it was given to me. Its the same amp just the "1200W" version, but the layout, and controls are all the same. And it still has the chrome. So I knew it would reach rated power. Also I ran it for years 2 ohm bridged. which my kicker amp of the same era won't do
Lol Big D pulling out all the quips in this one. Love it.

These are impossible to blow. But the manufacturers were not allowed to keep making these, it killed their sales once people bought these bad boys.
Evel knob made laugh, and the funny kept on hitting, Big D you rock
I didn't have money for a good system when first got into the scene so started with pyramid. I never cared for their typical subs except the Super Pro which I thought were pretty decent. I had a few amps and EQ boosters and I definitely got my money's worth (and some). Pyramid gave me an entry level system that didn't break the bank. If it wasn't for them I'd probably wouldn't have anything at that moment. So no hate from me on Pyramid.
My very first subs were a pair of 12” pyramids that had clear plastic cones 😂. My neighbor gave me them for mowing their lawn. They were in a HUGE ported box. Slammed pretty good, and got me HOOKED on the bass 😂
I would love to see a car audio family tree video.
Darn cool looking amp!! And what an awesome looking remote bass knob with super clean chrome! I have not seen one of these in a long time. Testing it with Funky Pups is cool too!
Big D.....you were killing me the whole time. Rodney Dangerfield would have applauded all the well-timed one liners in this video. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I remember my first aftermarket car radio was a Pyramid. Lasted about a month came back to the car and the buttons and face were melted.
seriously, just busted out when i saw the hole forming. do the funky pups.
I had pyramid 1600 from back in the day on 2 15 pioneer impps. It was loud with 600 watt 4 channel on mids and Highs
The most facetious review ever.......and I love it! Keep up the great work 👍
These are beautiful speakers that should be used in a 2-3 way hifi system with sub! where you have a low cut on pyramid.
4:40 Dunno if the 2500 watt dyno screenshot was used for comedic effect in contrast to this fine piece of audio gear, but it definitely worked! It's hard to imagine that the kids that wrapped that transformer are adults, now...

I started buying car audio in the early 2000's when I started driving and amps like these and the Sony Xplodes were sooo COOL! Yeah they were a little pricey and under preformed but I didn't know that until 2007 when I got a 1000w Kenwood to power my new pair of 12in CVR's in the ported Kicker box(silvers rule!) Most new amps offer alot more performance for the value but lack that COOl retro styling. A few expectations being stuff like the Soundstream 🕷️🕸️ and JP's with whacky colors.
