A tiny bit about myself:
Hi, my name is Ivelisse. I've been artistic and creative my whole life. Unfortunately, it wasn't an easy one. I'm a survivor of many trials and tribulations. All the trauma caused me to develop serious mental health issues. I was self-medicating by using drugs and alcohol for over twenty years. On August 1st, 2014, I threw myself at the mercy of the Lord and prayed to be saved. I've been sober and clean ever since. Amen! I started living for the first time since I was a little girl. It all started with my health/fitness and, soon after, I found myself itching to get back to my passion, my art! But, I didn't just want to do it for myself. I wanted to share that joy with others. Not long after, I created my KZread channel DIY No Need To Cry! I took the very bottles that were killing me and started to turn them into art. It's also a place where I get to share what I know and learn from others along the way. I also wanted to create a fun and safe space. I'm a very dorky person, and if I could make just one person smile, in a world full of hardships, if only for a brief moment, in a world that can be cruel at times, then I wanted that opportunity. With each piece I create, I replace a bad memory and create new ones with you! Welcome to the crafty fam! God bless you all!

Hello, I do not have a written step-by-step as this was my first time attempting this technique. I still have much to learn. I can tell you the basics of what I know. I will be revisiting this technique and testing everything I didn't try in this video to try and answer all of the questions I wasn't able to in this one. I hope this helps. 1.) Fill a large container with water. a.) Use anything big enough to dip your item of choice, width, and length-wise. Also, remember that the paint will ruin the container, so choose something you don't mind ruining. I kept mine as the designated hydro-dipping container. b.) I used water straight out of the backyard hose on a summer day. I don't know if warmer water would make a difference. I have heard that it does, so consider that. 2.) Prep your item before dipping. I like to prime my bottles; so the colors look brighter, and it also serves as a base coat to cover any spots that might not get some paint. I used white, gold, black, and silver spray paints as a primer. You can also leave the bottles clear and later add lights to them. It would probably look pretty cool. I didn't think to look at the kind of spray paint I was using. I used what I had in my art supplies. I don't think it matters for the primer/basecoat. Make sure to let them completely dry before dipping. 3.) Before dipping, I filled the bottles with water to avoid it from wanting to come back up as I dipped it. a.) This method was something I decided to try. It worked for me, but it's not necessary. If you fill the primed bottles, remember to wipe the outside dry before dipping unless you want that spotted look. 4.) Put some gloves on and create your colorful pattern on top of the water using spray paints. a.) I didn't check the spray paint I used. All I can tell you; is that the metallics for the dipping process did not work for me. I believe the glossier paints worked best. b.) Choose two to three colors and create your pattern by alternating them as you spray. c.) You can create the pattern in two different ways. There's the bullseye, as I did on most of them. You want to spray directly in the center alternating with the colors until you've built a nice set of rings. And there's the random spraying. Spray in random spots, but make sure to alternate the colors. There's no right or wrong way. It's all preference. 5.) Dip the bottle. a.) You can dip it straight down slowly or add a twist as you do. Do not lift it back up while dipping. It will ruin the design. b.) Once it's completely submerged, clear the top of the water using your glove or anything you wish to use before taking it out. Once the top is clear, take it out of the water. c.) Do not reuse any/if leftover paint. 6.) I set mine on a cinderblock outside overnight to dry. 7.) I didn't seal mine, but you should. Use any clear acrylic sealer of your choice. 8.) No, you don't have to refill the container with new water for the next dip. I used the same water for all of my dips. Make sure the top of the water has no paint and only add water if you see the level gets low. 9.) Dispose of water in two ways. Call your city townhall and ask or take a bucket with holes and fill it with sand/charcoal. Pour the water in that and let it filter. (Thank you to the person who suggested this.)

Thank you so much for showing your whole learning process here. Most "How to" videos are shown by people who are already experts. They naturally make things look easy, which can be intimidating to the novice audience for whom a "how to" video is intended. We need more people to show their mistakes and learning process along the way. Not only does it help new people learn from those mistakes to hopefully shorten the learning curve, but it helps us feel better about the inevitable mistakes we make in our own processes.

This is a stunning example of how to make a video that imparts useful information for novices. The learning experience really came alive for me watching your "mistakes". Many of the results I thought were great. The "stars" on your patriotic red white and blue bottle was a very happy "mistake". I plan to include this in my school holiday art programme for older children. .

I have learned that if you use spray cans, your water needs to be warm. The reason you get stringy paint is because the paint is cold. You can reclame your bottles with a brush and mineral spirits, and use them again. I like how you didn't give up, and kept on trying inspite of all the fails, and did it all with a smile. Good job.

Greetings from Puerto Rico! You brought back memories from my childhood; I saw this technique in a car model magazine (we did not have internet/youtube for reference fifty years ago...). I would like to add just two suggestions we (my friends and I) used with quite good results: first, use warm water to warm the paint before spraying; it makes the paint flow better, and the second, try swirling the water BEFORE you apply the paint, that way you lessen the "blank spots". The step about drying the droplets is new and useful to me, but remember we did not have to fill our models with water, we used a bent (metal) coat hanger taped to the underside of the model so we could dip it upside down. Keep up the good work!

Many years ago in the 70's I did the same technique with a "Mustang" motor cycle tank. I use lacquer car paint with retarder added so it wouldn't dry quick. I used a black, sanded base and then add the three primary colours of Red, Blue and Yellow.... I made my marble pattern in a cut in half 30 gallon oil tank (used for check air leaks in tires in the old days) I masked off both side ovals, added custom candy apply colours and used it as my back ground for an airbrush mural. re-sprayed the black after masking and then added 6 coats of clear lacquer... it's an old trick and sure beats spray cans...

I really like your approach to creativity and art. Because you seem to be enjoying the process. Even if the result doesn't always turn out how you expected it would. You're still having fun. And that of course is the most important thing. It is my belief that being creative should bring you joy. In my experience, if it doesn't bring you joy, it is very likely you won't enjoy the result. I've tried this technique with nail polish on nail tips. And had very little success. But after watching your video I just may have to try it out again. But, not with nails and nail polish. LoL Have you tried using any other kind of paint? Acrylic, craft paint, nail polish, etc? Thanks for a great video and inspiring me to give hydro dipping another try.

Honestly, your Horizontal Dipping Style is still pretty good actually, if you're looking for that specific look. I personally think it adds a uniqueness to the piece that no one does. Then again that's just me. I like things most people usually don't. As for the water droplets from filling the bottles your sister was right about the Red White and blue bottle. They Doo look like stars and what's more it works for the piece. So Instead of calling water droplets a "Don't" Why don't you call it a "Happy Accident" or "Artist's Flair"

Thanks for being honest about the problems and the number of attempts, etc. So many people show a technique for something they just attempted and act like they are a pro at it, but the missteps show through at some point. I really enjoyed your honesty and you end up with beautiful art. It's fun for me to see the learning process too.

I did this just yesterday. I had tried once before, but it was a complete failure. Watched U Tube more and more. Then I heard the temperature should be above 70. I tried it in winter in Ohio. However, yesterday was fairly successful. Warm outside and time for dipping. Have to say after watching your video...inspiration! I learned a lot. Thank you sooooo much. Have to wait awhile now. No more wine bottles. I gave up alcohol over 7 months ago. Thanks

I just had the idea of busting some of those up & using the broken pieces of glass in a mosaic type design on a table top or picture or picture frame, coffee table etc. I think I'm gonna try this. Thanks for the tips & the inspiration! Btw I happen to think ALL the bottles you did were beautiful regardless of "mistakes" that's what makes it true art!
