My little sister had to have a couple of teeth pulled out when she was like 5. She had to have anesthesia for it. So, when I got home from school the day she had her teeth pulled out, I find her on the couch and, the moment I enter with my school bag I hear my little sis say: "Hey, you've got an extra head on top of yours" and I just died laughing on the front porch 😂😂

As someone who will grow up to have all their teeth removed watching videos like this is comforting in a way. I have a mouth condition that we found out about when I was 7 the mouth condition causes my teeth to rot uncontrollably no matter how much I brush. I’m constantly in pain in my mouth that can give me migraines it’s horrible having this pain that will never go away. Watching your video about your teeth journey made me feel so safe and warm Inside!

Awe, loopy Illy at the beginning is just so precious; couldn’t help but giggle along with your mom as you were talking. Yeah I had braces too so I definitely feel your pain on things you’re not supposed to eat, though on a slightly random note I learned how to carve chunks out of an apple with a spoon to eat them thanks to my braces so there were some amusing parts of having them… I have other stories but I’d be here a while and I doubt anyone wants that long of a comment. Im very fortunate in that my wisdom teeth have never decided to pop out, I was told by a dentist that they’re up there but they’re not moving at the moment so there’s no need to take them out… which I’m VERY grateful for.

But our dentist only uses numbing medicine and doesn't use any sleeping gas, so I'm a bit nervous for getting mine out I can completely relate to the jaw thing though, but I have a mouth device and now my jaw occasionally hurts

I got four wisdom teeth out and I was supposed to get the sleeping gas, but they didn't tell me not to eat, so I got the numbing needles. It was fine, the worst part was just sounds, so if you have something to listen to, that might help.

It's so wild to me that at least Americans think anaesthesia is a necessity when taking out wisdom teeth. I got 3/4 removed with basic numbing, didn't hurt one bit and it was quickly over. The last tooth was left in because it wasn't pushing out or anything.

Currently watching this while recovering from my wisdom tooth surgery. Got all four pulled, bottom teeth were crowded, hope that will fix it. One of my top teeth were impacted so decided just to take all four out. Nice to watch after everything.

as someone who got their braces on yesterday, and previously got 4 teeth pulled, this is very comforting. Edit: Just wanted to say to anyone getting braces or teeth pulled that it's no that bad, don't worry! Braces hurt a lot at first but after about a week you should be fine. Also with teeth pulling when they numb your gums with the needles it just feels like slight pins and needles in your gums, not painful. The worst part is your mouth being completley numb afterwards for like 3 hours.

I always loved going to the dentist and was never scared of it, I recently had 4 of my teeth with cavities healed without any local anesthesia and the first two didn't hurt at all. I still got two teeth to do since I haven't been to the dentist in years but I am so looking forward to visiting them again! honestly I think that I want to become a dentist myself.

You know I had an impacted tooth, and then later had my wisdom teeth removed but never both at once cannot imagine how awful that would be (although for me the impacted tooth surgery hurt waaaaaay more after than wisdom teeth). Love how while loopy on the anesthetic you were just so wholesome - absolutely adorable

@OPAARTIST Same, and I‘m also confused about the anesthesia part. Where I live, only the people who are super scared of the procedure get knocked out. Me and everyone else just get some local injections and are good to go afterwards.

As someone who just had their wisdom teeth removed two weeks ago, something you dont realize until AFTER the surgery is how difficult it is to have a completely balanced diet with only soft foods This caused me to have a fun hour on the toilet about a week into recovery because I barely ate anything with fibre So i can confidently say that wisdom teeth surgery gave me diarrhea and no one can tell me otherwise

Puréed potato and sweet potato were my friends for a whole week, no joke.

I love the dentist, apart from that one time I got my first cavity and I was scared what they were gonna do but after that I felt better

I love how you describe being medically high as a kite. I deal with TMJ and have regular visits. It’s really not a scary thing when you get past the nervousness of it all but I understand that some people really have serious dentist anxiety.

For anyone who has a choice between Invisalign and braces I strongly recommend Invisalign, you can still eat popcorn, caramel, and all that. Plus it’s a lot less painful. It can also make it easier to play some instruments. With Invisalign you only get a bit of a sore jaw for about an hour to a day after switching trays, depending on how often you wear them.

I’ll probably have to go to the dentist soon and I’m terrified of them. In my country the recession is causing most people to not even get a dentist practice because it costs like £500 for just a checkup. I’m 11 and my wisdom teeth are growing in and it’s pushing another stool into my mouth wich is grating on my tongue. That means it’s a pain to brush and there’s a small cavity there and I’m worried. Tbh I think having total anaesthesia and waking up like you would make it funny and it makes me feel better about it. I probably also need braces. Thanks Illy for making my day better by stopping me procrastinating about it and the ever impending dread!

Girllll! I also had braces from when I was 12 to when I was 16 years old so I totally understand what you were going through also i had a ton of oral procedures starting at the age of 18.

Well I have broken a bone. But not because of my own doing. One of my mothers friends decided that he should pick up a 4 year old me and start juggling me over concrete floor with carpet. That's how I broke my collar bone.

That fear of waking up in the middle of it is so valid cause that actually happened to me! One of my wisdom teeth was so impacted that they had to take the tooth next to it too, which they did not account for in the anesthesia, so I woke up in the middle of them sawing that fifth tooth in half. Luckily I was xanaxed, and I couldn't feel the pain either, but I could absolutely feel the sensation of the tooth getting split and removed which is still pretty weird to think back on.

This is nutty. I just had my wisdom teeth out too! I was super self conscious and anxious about the fact that I couldn't get them out (or my mystical baby canine that remains in my head) until my adult life, but my orthodontist and oral surgeon were awesome and very supportive. It's so validating to see someone I admire as much on KZread also going through this journey. Wisdom teeth gang gang
