FUMMINS SWAP BUILD COST

Ойын-сауық

This is a build breakdown on my 2004 F350 with a 1997 12 Valve 5.9 liter Cummins. The project took about a year with the help of my buddy Doug.
A HUGE THANKS TO MY BEAUTIFUL/WONDERFUL WIFE FOR COOKING US MEALS AND WATCHING THE KIDS SO WE COULD WORK INTO THE NIGHT ON MANY OCCASIONS.

    2006 F250 with 2007 Cummins 5.9 here. I used DCS also. I did my conversion in 2012. DCS has come a long way since. They know what there are doing now! Mike Dahlke is extremely knowledgeable! I recommend them!

    I'm sure a lot of those guys are good. I dealt with them a while back when David Bradley owned the joint. They have come a long way since. I had the TCM-2000 controlling the 5R110. That was a disaster! Now I am using the Ford PCM to control the 5R110 which is tops! Mike is the guy there! My truck now is flawless with a million mile motor without emissions. I'm a happy camper.

    I caught this from Steve's channel the two of you talking and this is right up my ally as the last job that was serious work was for my brother a few years ago... I lost him this April R.I.P. little brother. He was a plumber by trade from N. Mexico in the fifties. He lost the engine in his dozer on his homestead in Alaska where I reside as of ten years now. I got hurt bad enough to put me on the permanent list and he accepted that. His Case dozer used the twelve valve cummins and it took a **** on one morning with the power out and about thirty below zero so it wasn't done the next day. I wondered how come he didn't swap motors in his little dozer cause eighty acres of land with only ten.. fifteen cleared wasn't him. I worked on this swap with him doing what I told him and me doing what ever a guy does when he walks on his arms spot to spot. I cleaned parts! He is a lot smaller than me but wicked strong. We pulled the engine out in a day on the dozer and saved the parts we needed for the swap like the pan, the pump (oil) and etc., and we got this done cause we had every know tool from my shop and his bobcat plus etc., and we ate good. I miss those days

    FBI so I used DCS for my conversion parts. One of the main things was the tachometer sensor it was very important to install it correctly with the correct spacing so it would read correctly. I believe the speedometer is either from the tranny or a wheel sensor. The wiring under the hood was redone by DCS also. I hope that answers some of your questions. Since I used the 12 valve everything is manual. If I were you I would contact Diesel Conversion Specialist for more information...they are definitely the experts!

  • @TexasBeardAdventures

    @TexasBeardAdventures

    6 жыл бұрын

    FBI the cost of the swap depends on how much stuff you want to buy from a conversion company like DCS or Destroked, you could spend 5k-10k on parts from them depending on what setup you want as far as tranny and motor. If you have the time and knowledge to figure it out on your own then you buy only the essentials like adapter plate and build or buy the rest from the auto Parts’s store. I chose to buy my items from DCS because I didn’t have the time to figure it out on my own. Me and my buddy Doug could have with no problem but it was just easier to buy it.

    @@TexasBeardAdventures Yes, up to 2011, they used the Cummins 4bt which is exactly like a 6bt with 2 cylinders chopped off so ac brackets, alternator, ps brackets are all designed to be in the Superduty and you can get everything on the dash to work as well wich is nice and if the check engine light comes in, it's legit. Check them out on here, Brazil Ford F250 3.9 Max Power and you van see how Ford designed the fit and it sits way back in the firewall too. Down there putting in a 6bt is an easy and common swap in the rural areas because of "European Emissions" which is why they used the 4bt instead of the 6bt. In Australia they used the 7.3 up to 2011 and NEVER had a 6.0 option,, that tells you somthing. For guys wanting the newer interior they can get a 7.3 cluster cheap for the newer dash designs instead of using the stock one from earlier modles and it's all in tune with the 7.3 (same with Brazil's 4bt, everything is set up for the Cummins) this way you can have your gauges all work.

    @@TexasBeardAdventures I'm looking into it now and keep you posted, they have regular cab short bed F250's as well and they are very popular. They also get an inline 6 cyl diesel Silverado's too. Think the GM is a Perkins but not sure but they are big like a Cummins 6bt or streched CAT C.4 with 2 extra cylinders. They have tons of neat stuff but I will keep you posted. Weird to, the MAX POWER Cummins 4bt are left hand drive like ours but the GM is right hand drive. Most vehicles are right hand drive in Brazil.

    Texas beard adventures that train horn is going to be sick!! Definitely earned my sub! I went with dcs, the only thing i bought from them is the adaptor plate and flywheel. All the other parts i either scavenged from a parts motor or bought from amazon haha. My truck is a 01 f350 4x4 long bed srw. I tried staying away from conversion companies bcuz thats how the swap becomes really expensive. I currently have $9500 in my complete swap. Thats including how much i paid for the truck, new wheels and tires, everything!!

    I am a Ford guy- I just like their trucks, interior, suspension and looks. That said, I own 4 Cummins diesels in Dodge first gen trucks. I bought an 06 Ford 6.0 4wd Crew cab on eBay specifically to do a swap, but the dealer who sold it to me ($5500) told me that it ran too well to swap it now. He said it got good mileage and ran great! What he didn’t know was that the BLM owned the truck and the motor blew at 167k, and they had Jasper Engines do the rebuild. It has 33k on it and runs well- but leaks oil, throws check engine lights and gets 11 mpg empty. And the electronic transfer case isn’t engaging. One of my Cummins is a spare motor with a Zf 5speed with transfer case- which- after reading your blog- is going to go in. I just need to pick between DCS and Destroked for motor mounts. I saw Destroke’s in another video and they look spectacular. What were yours like?
