FullyRawKristina wears leather shoes & I don't really care

Kristina (aka FullyRaw) was "caught" wearing leather shoes (at least twice that I know of). The outrage has been swift, severe, and seemingly never-ending. Her use of leather, whether intentional or not, is not a big deal imo. I think there are plenty of others things worth criticizing Kristina for, things that do much greater harm than a couple of pairs of cow skin heels.

Still wear leather boots I got before I went vegan. I don't feel like buying a new pair. I've been confronted about it before. Most people understood, some still insisted I was the spawn of Satan. lol

nycsoul17 I recently got an amazing leather cross body bag second hand from a friend. She was going to donate it but she gave it to me. I don't give two shits if people don't like it. It's durable and I didn't contribute to the company that makes it. Folks are just looking for something to be mad about.

A restriction doesn't need to be caloric. Cutting out huge categories of foods qualifies as restrictive. • @xosecox12

    @xosecox12

Exactly. Most vegans were not born vegan and should understand the misconceptions they used to have themselves. Some people live in places where no one talks about veganism and it's a completely foreign idea to them. It's not that person's fault. Of course they'll be alarmed by being told their way of eating should change. It's a lot to take in and everyone has a different learning process. Some do it overnight and some do it one step at a time. It amazes me that some vegans call people idiots or swear at them and then expect them to be convinced to go vegan. I had someone in the comment section say I convinced them to consider veganism again because I was proof to them that not all vegans are terrible. Being kind works. I think a lot of vegans are misanthropes after becoming aware of animal cruelty and it's caused them to forget how to have empathy and compassion for humans.

If it's true that she (an educated adult) was somehow unaware that leather production is harmful to people, or somehow that leather production involves harming animals then she if she cared to be educated she would have been when people reacted to her having purchased a NEW Porsche with leather seats. If she is still ignorant, it's because she doesn't want to know and then doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt -- not that a rich, trust fund baby, who shames people who aren't as rich as she is ever deserves the benefit of the doubt.

When you're promoting things, it's your responsibility to check that it represents the message you're sending. She has a car with leather seats, has promoted leather shoes in the past and brushed off the 'hate' (criticism would be a better term) when it's been on a smaller scale. She has registered in the past that her shoes are leather. This could have easily been a non-issue if she'd have referred to herself as plant based rather than vegan, but alas her brand is built on veganism. Sure, there are bigger issues out there and I don't agree with the sheer amount of hatred some are putting towards her but she's a 'vegan' wearing dead cows on her feet. That's it. She's killing cows and promoting it when she easily could choose not to. Hopefully as a result of this criticism she'll stop promoting leather to her followers but quit using the excuse of "oh there are bigger things to worry about at least her diet is vegan" when that's such bs.

I don't think people should call her a "bitch", but I don't see anything wrong with calling out hypocrisy. Like, don't attack and be nasty but if you say "why are you wearing leather?" and she ignores it, as she seems to be doing, then if you are an ethical vegan it makes complete sense to stop supporting her. Kristina has been vegan for away too long to make the mistake of buying leather shoes. If you care about animals, that is one of the 1st things you check for when buying something that appears "leather-y". It's pretty clear that Kristina just thought the shoes were cute & put fashion (or possibly money she was paid to advertise the shoes?) before her morals and the animals. She is constantly preaching love & kindness so her fans have a right to be pissed that she would support the slaughter of an animal for something she doesn't need. Not to mention that leather production is legitimately one of the most toxic processes out there so despite her "all natural" bs, she is supporting that too. This isn't even a matter of vegans being too picky at this point. She is just straight up misrepresenting herself to millions of people which is sleazy af. You cant call yourself an all natural, ethical vegan and buy leather shoes. Normally your videos are pretty logical, but using the argument that people should be more mad about her pseudoscience approach to diet & wellness instead of her wearing leather is creating a strawman. I'm not a fan of hers at all. I think the lifestyle she promotes is ridiculous. But I think it's even more ridiculous that she promotes that craziness and is a hypocrite on top of it. If she just promoted a vegan diet, but didn't speak on ethical issues, then her wearing leather wouldn't matter imo. But if you claim to be an ethical vegan then knowingly buy leather shoes then you are just being a liar.

And of course Freelee just made a video about Kristina's shoes and of coursed used animal abuse video clips in order to propel her over 700,000 followers to hate on Kristina. Which worked because after her video was posted more and more hateful comments were posted on Kristina's IG and youtube video. What I don't understand is how Freelee has not learned her lesson. She is not perfect (neither am I) She adopted TWO dogs (I know you remember this) and when she didn't feel the fitted her lifestyle anymore she went ahead and gave them away. Some people would not consider that vegan. (not trying to start the argument as to who is more vegan lol just trying to make a point) She has breast implants (nothing wrong with that but they are not vegan) she has used botox (again not vegan). My point is, none of us are perfect and attacking (literally attacking and sending others to attack) other vegans is NOT helpful. We try our best and that is all we can do. Fruitveganful Mart umm I find that incredibly ethical. If you decide to adopt and animal instead of purchase one, get it out of a shelter that is good. If you decide you are not giving it the life it deserves and it’s maybe not happy or could be happier with someone else, that is even better!! I can’t stand the girl but I’m gonna defend that. I’ve only ever given away one pet that wasn’t a foster. It was my female rabbit, I also had 2 males. She clearly needed a friend based on her behavior and wasn’t as happy as she could have been. They all had their own cages and I made a point to make sure they had free time outside of them everyday. I gave her to a girl I have know for a long time who had another female rabbit. They hit it off immediately, she was much happier and lived until 11 years old and was a mini!!! It’s a very selfless thing to do to and calling that “not vegan” is just stupid. Please stop with that crap, didn’t even make sense and makes us all look bad. It’s called the right thing to do, has nothing to do with what’s vegan and what isn’t vegan. Incase you didn’t know being vegan is not using or consuming animal products, pretty simple.

I feel like their should be varying degrees of being vegan. I call myself "vegetarian" b/c even though I don't eat meat, I know that I have makeup or body products that were most likely tested on animals. I try to minimize purchasing those things, but am I vegan? I don't buy leather products but I still own and use the Coach handbag my mom gave me for my birthday. I try to reduce animal suffering but am I hard-core vegan, no, not really. I feel like I have a "comfortable and gracious vegan" lifestyle. I accept gifts from family and friends, bring only my main "meat" to gatherings and eat the provided veggie sides (yeah they're cooked with butter, welcome to the south, but it's free and more gracious to accept the food prepared). I want to still be approachable to my closest friends and family. Being hardcore and spewing criticism isn't helpful. And those vegans give our community a bad name. Most of my co-workers, and friends forget b/c I don't act pushy about my beliefs. Maybe start by saying your vegetarian, it is easier for people to be less judgmental.

I'm really looking forward to donating my old things once I can afford to. It's kind of weird that Kristina does have leather shoes, since she's been vegan for a long time, but I have noticed that raw vegans are much more likely to wear leather. I don't say this to disparage them necessarily, but raw vegans tend to be more motivated by "health" and being "natural" than by ethics. I have heard this from a couple of raw (now ethical) vegans. It's not a large sample size, but there are very few raw vegan channels discussing ethics. There are a lot of other things I disagree with Kristina about. I'm not going to attack people for transgressing veganism or anything, but I also don't have to say that buying leather is better than eating meat. Both suck from an ethical perspective, but like UV, I prefer to think it was an accident.

I was wondering if you watch UV considering your similar views on being rational and anti-pseudscience. I said on a few other comments that it's been clear from the beginning that Kristina is in it for the health, not the animals. She's obsessed with being 'pure.' She doesn't really make ethics videos and everything is always about not eating gluten/oil/salt because it's not pure enough. That has always been her standpoint so I've never looked to her expecting to see no animal products used in her lifestyle.

It was a birthday present from my mom and she spent hours trying to find those shoes while she was on another country. I think giving away is okay but throwing it away is also a disrespect with the animal that was killed for it. I think it's sad that you don't care. People are not going to calmly educate Kristina about her leather shoe choice. People are (understandably) getting upset and angry because Kristina's actions go against everything she supposedly stands for. She promotes herself as a fully raw vegan who cares deeply about animals. She has a huge following and has a big influence on many people. To wear not just one, but multiple pairs of leather shoes, and then post photos of herself wearing them on Instagram (whilst tagging the designers) is inexcusable. To say it was just a 'mistake' is bullshit. She knew exactly what she was wearing and clearly didn't give a damn. Her actions have exposed her true colours and dishonest character.

It should be spread with love and frienship vibes. What kind of image we are portraying to no Vegans if we are so hateful againts each other? No wonder no Vegans think we are narcisist, snobs and negative about everything. We should be supporting each other instead of judging and putting down each other. I'm an ethical vegan. I avoid leather, fur, down, wool (though it might sometimes creep in tiny amounts now and then unintentionally and I use it if and when it does.) But my understanding is that a strict avoidance of leather wasn't part of the original definition of "vegan", coined by Donald Watson. Avoiding all animal products beyond meat, milk and eggs was encouraged by him, but it wasn't part of the original definition. Definitions of vegan have changed from time to time, but the original was less strict. I follow the more modern definition more or less, but I don't attack vegans who follow the Watson definition, and have no basis for doing so.

Someone who's looking to become a vegan sees Freelee making a video calling out another vegan for unknowingly wearing leather shoes which were a gift... If makes us look bat shit crazy! My car has leather interior because my husband bought it for me (he's not vegan) and I didn't realise until months later when I couldn't return it! I have some leather furniture in my house that I didn't look into properly when I bought it. But that's not my concern, my concern is making sure I don't eat meat or any animal products. I’m a lacto vegetarian Hindu and for me, the leather issue is really difficult. I try and have tried SO hard to never buy leather products. Shoes are really the Achilles heel for those who otherwise find themselves abstaining from leather products. Vegan shoes are 1. Not easy to find 2. Often weirdly more expensive 3. Not as durable 4. And sorry, yeah I’m gonna say it, call me vain, generally ass-ugly. I have one pair of leather shoes. It took a lot of inner strife, contemplation and consideration before buying them. But I bought them. And I wear them. Honestly, I feel very torn. I don’t claim to have the answers for myself. I cared for a small herd of dairy cattle in the monastery I used to live in. I forged extremely strong and very meaningful bonds with those cows. I love them, and I love them in a major way. I fed them. Sang to them. Talked to them. Napped with them. Played with them. Went on walks with them. Milked them. Nursed them. Worshipped them. The idea of wearing or using leather used to be unthinkable to me. I still feel shame and guilt over owning and wearing the aforementioned leather shoes. I probably won’t buy another pair again. But I certainly don’t judge anyone for wearing them. I’m a vegetarian because it is one of many ways in which we can incorporate living ahimsa, the Hindu term for non-injury. Of course we all do things, unknowingly or otherwise, cause injury to other beings. When we act consciously to reduce or avoid such injury, we are making progress and we are making the world better for all beings. Ahimsa also means not slamming those who eat meat. You can’t be a vegetarian/vegan for reasons of non-injury and then injure another person with your words because they’re not practicing ahimsa as you see fit. Contradictory!

Even better, using non-vegan products such as shoes can be really good for the environment. What if they were second hand and/or from a friend or family member that already had them? Or from being before vegan? Isn't it WORSE to waste a vegan product that already exists and an animal died for rather than wasting it? So going back to the shoes. Say for the sake of argument that she had leather shoes from pre-vegan days, wouldn't it be better to wear those as long as possible rather than throw them out and purchase vegan shoes? Even vegan shoes have a minor impact on the environment. It's wasteful, if the animal had already died for shoes, don't waste it even more. Going out and knowingly purchasing non-vegan shoes, I could see the argument there but we don't know that's the case here.

I just left a comment on your other video about vegans being cruel to each other. A vegan tonight told me I'm not a real vegan because I care about humans AND animals. Apparently "intersectional vegans" are evil. She called me a moron because I went to college and graduate school (I got a corrupted education apparently) and was insistent that I'm an idiot and not a real vegan because I offered that her tactic of bullying people into veganism was ineffective. She called herself a misanthrope and said humans don't matter and that it's okay to bully because it's my fault if words hurt me. Then she and someone else said it's pathetic if people turn against veganism because of the "words people say." Then another guy attacked you for having a baby and called me a cunt for defending it. I know these are just KZread comments from sick people but I honestly have been crying because I have severe anxiety, PTSD, and agoraphobia after a severely abusive relationship I was in. I used to like leaving KZread comments because I was able to interact with people and have something to do while going through my agoraphobia but now I think KZread has made my anxiety worse because people think that being behind a computer makes it okay to say whatever they want to people they'll probably never meet. And people think it's okay to abuse someone and then say "you're responsible for your feelings, my words are just words." We all have a responsibility to be kind to each other. That's what humanity is about. I'm so sick of the people who think it's cool to hate people and be mean. People have committed suicide because of cyber bullying. I'm a vegan and always will be but I feel lonely in my veganism because the only people who are nice to me are non-vegans.

I'm still so bothered by the person in a different video who replied to my comment saying I'm not a real vegan because I'm nice to humans. It shouldn't be getting to me, but I care about veganism so much that it really hurt me to me told I have to choose between human relationships and animals in order to be a "real" vegan. She said ethical vegans don't care about humans. She kept referring to intersectional vegans as well as in vegans who care about "both" and said intersectional vegans are disgusting. I just don't get how that mindset comes about. I want to stay vegan but I felt like she was bullying me out of a lifestyle I love when you would think she would be wanting invite people in if she cares about animals so much. I'm staying vegan for myself but I don't want to call myself a vegan publicly because the word makes me feel sick when I've only ever had non-vegans be nice to me and vegans always tell me I'm too compassionate towards humans to be vegan. It's lonely in this lifestyle when every vegan you meet alienates you and only non-vegans accept you.

I don't really care about Kristina but I'd like to note something: On professional photoshoots the model doesn't always get to decide on shoes or make up. Kristina has most likely also used non-vegan not cruelty-free and definitely not "raw" make up! That's something she never addressed.

I am vegan, not raw, but I think it's unfair to say that raw veganism is extremely limiting and extremely unhealthy. It is not limiting, neither is veganism itself, there are tons of fruit, vegetables and seeds and a variety of dishes they can eat. And raw veganism has been shown to cure diabetes. So it might not be the healthiest option for everyone but it is certainly not "extremely unhealthy".

My feet are so screwed up from years of doing and teaching gymnastics & dance. I tried buying vegan shoes. I bought several pairs. None worked. My feet were always in terrible pain from them and you know how miserable you get when you're hurting. I finally gave in and started buying whatever shoes feel right on my feet. Sometimes that means I buy shoes made partially out of leather. I don't buy more than what I need - I don't have a huge shoe collection, and I absolutely do NOT buy leather shoes for dressing up. The leather I buy is for WORK and not for trying to be stylish. If another vegan wants to judge me for that, I really don't care.

From what I understand, the shoes were a gift. She talked about how sometimes when she gets gifts that are non-vegan she'll just keep the gifts and just educate people on what vegan alternatives they can buy. She probably knew they were non-vegan but figured it was fine to wear them since she didn't directly contribute to the demand by buying them herself.

I am not vegan. I eat a vegan diet. I personally will never say I am a vegan. Yes, my make up is cruelty free, my clothes and shows and wallet are also. But even the things we wear that don't come from animals, come from industrial farming or the tearing down of animal homes in forests and other places. So I will never say I'm vegan. The wood my houses foundation was built from is wood that was cut down and took away a home from animals and the machinery that did it, crushed the animals and beings on the ground... So no I'm not vegan, I am just a human doing whatever I can to lessen my impact on animals, the environment and other things, as much as I can where I'm at in life right now.

I use leather quite a lot. But then again, I buy my clothes mostly used. And sometimes, when people point at my shoes and ask weren't I vegan, I'd like to rant and ask if they always check labels for animal products, if they spent considerable amount of time online searching which brands of cosmetics and household products are cruelty-free, if they buy most of their clothes used - or when new, check if it's cruelty-free -, if they go through dozens of conversations trying to justify their ethical and dietary choices, etc. But I don't rant, because I'm nice and cool. I do like to think I've earned my pretty, badass and used leather boots, thank you very much.

I see this leather drama over and over again - well, Imo it's better to buy a pair of shoes NOW and wear them longer, instead of buying shoes every few months, while ruining your feet. Vegans should know producing plastics is damaging the environment, and we have to buy consciously for our garments to last more, so that we don't overconsume.

I have been vegan for a little over a year now and I still wear my leather boots and down feather coat that I have had for years. I plan to wear them both until they wear out because honestly I need them to keep me warm this winter. when they are worn and old, I will obviously replace them with vegan versions. I worried, (especially when I go to vegan events) that I would be judged. Then I remember that I do it for the animals. not to win the approval of other people. So I say fuck it. :)

While I think it's fair for people to call her out because she tagged the designer to promote the shoes, there's a difference between calling out hypocrisy and name calling/attacking someone. I still wear old leather shoes, and will sometimes buy 2nd hand leather shoes because part of my ethics also involves reducing waste. Any new shoes I buy are vegan, and made from recycled materials(like Matt & Nat) under fair working conditions. I don't think something from H&M, Zara, Topshop etc is vegan just because it's free of animal products(the glue used probably isn't even if it's leather-free) because slave labour also causes harm to humans, and animals(i.e. landfills, dyes in water, etc.).

I tried being a vegan for 8 months about 2.5 years ago. I was constantly met with criticism from my family and friends but I maintained the vegan lifestyle pretty well. I was still in the process of learning and was having a conversation with someone in the comment section when it was pointed out that I had accidentally consumed a non-vegan product. I was instantly called names and labels were thrown around. For what? For accidentally consuming a non-vegan product? Most of these vegan youtubers create a false illusion of reality. I have a very intense career, I can’t possibly consume 10 bananas in the morning and carry 20 oranges in my bag for lunch. I have a well paying job but even then, that’s unthinkably expensive to afford on a weekly basis. I have, never till date, met a vegan that gave me valid advice. They’re mostly condescending judgemental freaks that want to ‘feel’ superior. Whenever I’ve asked a question, I’ve been met with “don’t do this” “don’t do that” instead of “do this”. Ugh.

There is such a difference between the vegans I've met irl and the vegans I've interacted with online. My vegan friends and the people I meet at festivals and such are the kindest, most compassionate people I've met. I've worn leather shoes to vegan festivals (because I bought them before I went vegan and I hate being unnecessarily wasteful) and had no comments at all. The vegans I interact with face to face are respectful and understanding, and there such a generalised lack of that in the vegan community online and that makes me so sad. We all believe in the same thing and it's so easy to be respectful and tolerant of other people's choices, and I don't understand why this works so well until screens and keyboards are introduced

this is totally unrelated to the video but i just wanted to say first I admire you SO MUCH for breaking the stereotype of veganism. you are such an inspiration to me and I'm so glad I found your channel. I was wondering if you would consider making a video on the topic of buying new clothes (like from target, Kohl's, etc.) because a lot of vegans, Freelee in particular, seem to be quite against buying anything new and think everything should be second hand. (not saying I disagree, just curious on your view). also, if you'd consider making a video on the topic of the environment and veganism. I seem to get flustered when talking to people about the environmental damage of animal products and even tho I've seen cowspirscy, I feel like it's not enough? idk. just wondering :) thanks

I'm on a high fat low carb diet and I've been really happy with the results and the lifestyle. My comment though is not meat to promote any diet over another, but to point out the differences in the community. I was never a vegan, but I was a vegetarian for a long time and the amount of criticism I got was unreal, to the point where i would hide the fact that I was eating chips or other unhealthy things. With the LCHF diet that's not the case. If you fall off the wagon, people just encourage you to get back on it. There's no judgement and there's no criticism, and that is the best part. If i decided to go vegetarian again, or try a vegan diet, I wouldn't even tell anyone just to avoid the criticism when/if I messed up.

Kind of gross, but I seriously don't see the problem as long as you aren't buying them new because that isn't supporting the company or production of the product, just making sure they don't go to waste after the fact. People really do need to get over it and be kinder. Great video!

I think people have a problem wit the fact she tagged the designer. Any one of her followers could easily go and buy the shoes, whether they know the shoes are leather or not, leading to a small increase in demand. I think the shoes are ugly so I'd hope not too many people would actually want them but I think that's something you didn't bring up.

Who would want to be part of this club if they're just going to be attacked for every single thing that they do? All these people spending their time bashing her could spend their time actually contacting the company. We as consumers can change things if we request vegan apparel. Now just imagine what 2000 emails can do if it went straight to the company that was making this and not to a girl who is clearly passionate about being vegan. People just bash Kristina because they don't like how she comes across on camera. I get it. Just stop bashing our own. We need to stick together.

My mother bought them for me 5 years ago before I went vegan, they are really good winter boots, and I can't really afford to buy vegan boots of an equal quality (they are very solid, long-lasting, and warm with great tread and I live in Pennsylvania), because I am currently in grad school. The purchases I have made since becoming a vegan have *all* been vegan (to my knowledge), but I don't see the harm in using an item that I already owned when I don't have a solid replacement.
