I totally agree with the sentiments expressed in this post. The Judge needs to be challenged and the sentence appealed by the DDP.

Thank you for sharing, Terry. This should certainly be appealed by the DPP. But not just that. The judge in question should have their psychological ability evaluated. How can a person with such authority consider this a fair sentence? If this sets a standard to break the law and then be rewarded by admitting the crime, without a just sentence, to where does it lead...?

Any one that caries out this type of crime makes the world a darker place but to do it to an innocent person or old person is a bullie coward tug .....but for a State Appointed judge to hand out a sentence like this. And bring out justice system into Question its mind bloggling What has the Minister of justice say

What kind of fool is the so called judge????All the wrong messages being sent out to society This prick can now move on with his life while an innocent woman is damaged/traumatised.Her life probably changed irrecoverably. One can only imagine how much she suffers and will suffer. As this solicitor says,we all have either wives, daughters, mothers, neices, aunts, grandmother's etc

Well that's the justice system we have in this country, that judge is a absolute disgrace, and should not be allowed to sit on the bench again, he should be in court for his injustice he handed down disgusting carry on, make a case against the state for the injustice you had to injure

Why does it take so long for a crime to get to court?

Absolutely craggy island meets Ballinascully. I was without water for a year and a half. Irish water would not speak to me. A year and a half later they sent an email to a TD I had contacted saying it was all my fault, that I had been offer a connection and turned it down. I of course asked Irish Water who had made this offer and they are refusing to say even though I was told the person's name is in my file. The story was relayed verbally to someone who told someone else and on that basis my TD was lied to.

I think the whole country stands in solidarity with Natasha and would agree with everything you have said. How would that "man" feel if this had happened to his mother/sister/girlfriend? How would the judge feel? Unfortunately this kind of thing happens more than we are aware of.

I find it very hard to argue with you but maybe we should look at what the judge was trying to achieve , a prison sentence was not going to make this lad any better, it would make him unemployable and maybe the start of a long criminal career. If they had make it a condition of his suspension that he serviced his time in the Army and forfeit a large amount of his pay to the victim for the 3 years of his suspension?

They jailed Enoch Burke and he is standing up for his beliefs and they let this TUG walk free. Will someone explain this to me please??

It's ridiculous. It's becoming standard. Kyle Hayes got off and he didn't even plead guilty

I wouldn’t for a moment condone what that man did, and I think the sentence was too light. What he put on social media was disgusting. However, the outcry has been such that I worry that it might drive him to self-harm and I don’t want to see that happen. Let the system deal with him. The DPP may appeal leniency, and the girl could bring a civil case. If I were advising him, I’d be telling him to resign from the PDF immediately to avoid dismissal with all the ritual humiliations that the process would entail. I do not want to hear that he has self-harmed. Everybody has a mother and a family, think what they are going through. Much was made in the media of the attendance of an officer at the trial. That is a completely routine process for good reasons. For instance, if a soldier picks up a driving disqualification, the army obviously cannot let him drive a truck while he is disqualified. Finally - His Honour Judge Tom O’Donnell is retiring in the next few days, after many years of very hard work on the District and Circuit court benches in Limerick, and before that as a solicitor. He has done a vast amount of good for Limerick.

Maybe the judge was trying to avoid him losing his career in the army as it might stand a better chance of putting him on the right track, I'm not sure getting him fired and rendering him unemployable is going to achieve much. The coverage this is getting is out of proportion and dangerous.
