Like TigerAce said, those are a pretty common design; you can get it right off Thingiverse. Mileage varies depending on print quality. You can also print regular bearings, but the tolerances make them super loose and they're not very round so they roll terribly. Honestly though you should just use real bearings; 3d printers are really bad at making spheres/round things.

I actually wasn't referring to it being a common design. this is a unique design made by a 3D Designer which this company took, removed his logo and sent it to him. should give the guy credit

The 3D designers thought that, if they do that bee hive hexagonal design, it wont break. But they need to know that the bee hive array only works strong if the working pressure is applied vertically, and not on the flat face of the hexagon.

Amazing see my pennyboard at the end of the video, Unfortunately like always in 3D printing community someone take my design and use it to receive advertise for him self without credit who actually did the design and make it works! And he print the board really badly and didn't put inside the right roads! So disappointed....

If you made a full size board with the penny board plastic it would be heavier than wood. The plastic would need to be wayy thicker to not be flimsy as fuck.

That's not quite right, i think it would work as-designed in HT-PLA that is subsequently baked, or Taulman Bridge. Eerily, it won't even turn out to be much more expensive than a big box store one. I'd have an urge to crossbrace it with some metal bars at the bottom though, or maybe with a redesign right through the body, that should do a lot to help it.

  • @BrunoCO55

If you were to print a solid-body skate that size it will take forever and it would be really expensive. Most 3D printed stuff are hollow or have holes in it to cut down on cost and printing time. I guess they should try to keep the holes in a way that it doesn't compromise the structure so much. P.S. I didn't want to sound cocky just trying to be informative.

I mean it doesn't say in the description that it was designed by SD3D, just sent by them. They mention at least twice in the video who actually designed it, and there is like a 5 second close up of the artists' signature printed out on the board. But if you do have actual info, it would be lovely if you could write it down, instead of just informing them that they are wrong.

Baron Riedthaler I understand people put a lot of hard work and effort into this stuff but the letters are always long and they keep getting longer. And this particular letter has their social media logos plastered on it... they are clearly the ones doing this just for ad space.

3D printing is used for making MODELS, it's not supposed to make anything sturdy. You are supposed to 3D print something you want to make out of different material. Hence why all the 3D printed things on here break. To sell anyone that board to skate with would be criminal.

That may have been true a few years ago, but it's really not anymore. Check out the Carbon M1. watch?v=O2thSsQrZUM. It is not a concept, it's being sold to and used by businesses right now. It prints in production quality materials, which can be flexible/sturdy/strong. It is changing how mfgs do business. Instead of producing ahead of time and maintaining inventory of products, when a customer orders a part, the part can be produced on demand and shipped.

I know I'm a few months late here, but just FYI, there are actually parts on commercial and corporate jets that are 3d printed. They literally come off the printer, put a parts tag on it, and install it. Granted, they are non-structural parts, like cup holders, and ductwork, and interior trim parts, but still....
