*⚠ **_NOT SPOILERS,_** READ TO AVOID MISSING IMPORTANT DETAILS IN FUTURE EPISODES ⚠* Episodes *6, 8, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 36, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48,* and *49* _have _*_scenes after the credits;_* they are sometimes just fun little vignettes, but *often they include significant details that **_will_** be relevant later on,* and that might make some future events confusing if you haven't watched them; _it's therefore highly recommended to watch them._ If you don't have this list at hand, just look at how much time is left in the video when you get to the credits; if it's more than usual, there's almost certainly a post-credits scene. Furthermore, the credits in episodes *45, 54, 63,* and *64* are different than usual, and worth watching (especially the ones in *64,* which everyone will probably be expecting a reaction to).

@@MovieswithMary Yeah, since _all_ episodes (except 64, of course) have previews at the end, which you probably won't want to watch as they're inherently spoilery, it's good to know beforehand which specific episodes have post credit scenes that won't spoil anything and _should_ be watched (there'll still be previews _after_ these scenes, though, so be wary of those).

The Philosopher's Stone is an actual part of real-world alchemy. Of course, real-world alchemy doesn't actually work, but it was a serious study a few centuries ago - the idea that you could turn materials into something more valuable or useful. The Philosopher's Stone was a perfect material that allowed the user to turn lead into gold, heal injuries and extend their life. The creation of a philosopher's stone was a central study of alchemy but of course, no one ever achieved it.

I'm really excited that you're reacting to this, it's easily one of the GOATs in anime. Some anime do one thing or another better than FMA, but really none have managed to top it in all areas, and it excells in pretty much all areas. I'm sure others will or have explained it, but the pacing in the first dozen episodes is a little fast and condensed. The reason is that there was a different adaptation that came out several years before, but the original source manga had not yet finished. Due to delays, they had to basically invent the back half of the original anime. FMA Brotherhood is the more faithful adaptation, but the problem was that it came out close enough to the original anime adaptation that the kind of had to assume you were at least a *little* familiar with it. That's why they introduce so many characters so quickly, it's rapid fire because at the time the audience was largely expected to have known who they were already and instead of fully recreating 25ish episodes exactly the same, they sped up the beginning so that they could get to the new material faster.

Okay, so here's the deal with The Philosopher's Stone. It's totally an idea thought up by alchemy IRL. They called it a stone, but they weren't sure if it would be solid, liquid, energy, or what. They just "knew" it would be the magic ingredient that could turn lead into gold, or give you immortality. Why was the lead into gold part connected to the immortality part? Because alchemists didn't understand about atoms and periodic elements yet. They thought lead and gold were states of the same matter, and that gold was lead "purified". Therefore! If you could "purify" lead into gold, then you could "purify" a human being with all their flaws into a perfect immortal angelic being. They weren't seeking the philosopher's stone for wealth, and not even seeking it for the immortality, but to reverse the Biblical fall of man from the garden of Eden to restore mankind to its original state of grace. Like nature had a crack in it, and it was their job to spackle it. That was the idealistic premise, anyway. Governments and treasure seekers just wanted the gold and immortality.

  • @ChirumboloFilm

I would absolutely LOVE to see her reaction to Cowboy Bebop, probably my favorite anime of all time and a true CLASSIC. It only has 26 episodes, and the English dub is much preferred over the Japanese one, so it shouldn’t be a difficult or long anime to watch/finish. Another anime with 26 episodes is Trigun, that is great too, with a great English dub!

@@critica77y77 true, that is, it terms of the meaning of the word, but there is much more to it than that, there is intonation, delivery, tone, all of which are hugely important and easily get lost. After all what I just wrote in this reply i could have said indifferently, angrily, arrogantly and all sorts of ways. Rough emotional direction are given in a script, but the director almost never gets to actually hear if the lines are any good. The million comparison videos of different dubs of movies and other media on YT prove that quality of performance often VASTLY varies.

  • @critica77y77

@@beggar6042 I get that, but...the director of the anime is usually not the mangaka. Yes the sub is the truest version of the director's vision, but the director isn't the person whose vision matters most. And yes, quality of dub varies significantly. There's plenty of good dub and plenty of bad dub. Just don't watch the bad ones. There's no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Ed being annoyed about his height (or perhaps, lack there of) makes a LOT more sense when you know that he's 4'8. And 15 years old. He IS short for his age. The milk propaganda comes directly from the author herself, as she grew up on a dairy farm (also her author avatar is a little cow). If the difference between the subtitles and what was being said confused you, it's cause those would be the english subs for watching it in Japanese (so a more, direct, translation), as opposed to the subs for the dub translation (the "dubtitles" as I've seen them referred to). So there's going to be a slight difference in translation(b/c dubs and subs have different parameters to work with, such as the dub having to match the lip flaps on screen, while the subs have timing and can't be to long since people need to be able to read them). So you have the Japanese subs turned on as opposed to the dub-subs on. If that makes sense. Unrelated but your cat looks very adorable and is just stealing the show chilling out back there.

I'm surprised you haven't watched the original Full Metal Alchemist first and that you started with the Brotherhood reboot. Anyway, Death Note is my favourite anime. Might be interesting to look into IT.

The only original story is the manga, Brotherhood is not a reboot, 2003 is not the original.

Well, the first episode showcases the personalities of the main characters and (very superficially) the world and the magic system, so viewer's have an idea what they're getting into. Then it just follows the manga; granted, maybe a bit rushed until we get to Dublith, as the 2003 series had already covered those bits, but we get the same exposition and character development as we got in the manga or the 2003 series, so it should be equally easy or hard to follow.

There are a handful of Animes where even the creators admit that the English dubs are better. This and Cowboy Bebop are two of the standout examples. If you can get through the first handful of episodes, you can make it to the end of the series. Good luck and enjoy. We eagerly look forward to your next upload of this series.

The new FMA is good, but it's always a shame because they never start watching the original FMA, which is much darker, takes a pessimistic path and ends with everything going wrong and everyone broken, both FMA are not faithful, each one adapts one part, just as the second has a lot of things that only exist in the first, anyway

Vinland Saga is another great anime to check out. Seeing your taste and emotional intelligence in previous reactions, i think youll absolutely love it. Its also one of those anime that is paced, written, and storyboarded in a way that is similar to live action. Its one i could see being a great live action if they treated it with the proper respect it deserves. Thats another reason why i think its a good show for newer anime watchers to check out. I agree with your choice of watching FMAB in dub, but i recommend Vinland Saga in sub.

One thing I hate about anime, as a genera, is the sheer amount of absolutely toxic weebs out there that harangue people over dubbed versus subbed. Some of the biggest, best anime have fantastic (even superior dubs) and even those that aren't amazing are pretty good to at least serviceable. If you ask me, something that people fail to consider a lot is the division of attention that having to read subs, all the time, does for your appreciation of the art and everything going on while you're reading.
