A “serving” is not really how much you are supposed to eat it’s just a way to measure things like calories, protein, sugars, etc. so if the serving size was like 1 tablespoon then the nutrition information is based on that one tablespoon. That doesn’t mean they recommend you eat one tablespoon.

That is the amount I'm "serving" to guests at my house. The "eat when I'm alone" portions are vastly different though. Edit: ok I seem to have started a small issue with this comment. It is also my fault to have responded to the replies the way I had because I just got ticked off by the first few comments calling me selfish and greedy, and for that I apologise. The original comment was completely a joke, I didn't mean you should actually serve your guests crumbs or to make them feel unwelcome, and I am sorry that this was the message my comment gave off. In our country, we have a saying "atithi devo bhava" which basically means that guests should be treated with the same standard as you would God, and I didn't realise that this little comment would completely disrespect that statement, and for that, I sincerely apologise

Of course that doesn't make the food forbidden but serving sizes help plan your meals appropriately. Someone who isn't overweight or has a BED should be fine with only one serving as long as they get most of their nutrients from regular meals instead of desserts. 50g of extra carbs won't destroy a diet. But constantly eating one third of that cake PLUS other large meals which is common in America leads to our current obesity crisis. Compare this to other countries like Japan where you get the recommended servings of food. Obesity is less of the problem. People underestimate the power serving size has on weight, appetite, and health.

It doesn't always depend on calories. They are taking into account the total nutrition the average person should have in one day and what part of that total nutrition this item would be if it were one part of one meal. It could be very high in fat or sodium or carbs or something else that isn't great for most people to consume too much of.

@@jennamakesbugs Anytime the nutritional lexicon on products is brought up, something I saw comes to mind. It was a 4 pack of normal size bran muffins in a grocery store bakery. In big letters on the top, it proclaimed "Only 150 Calories Per Serving!" Oooo! A healthy, low calorie, filling muffin to have with your morning coffee. In very small letters on the bottom it said "16 servings per container." You can't tell me that wasn't just about calories. I see similar things all the time. All you have to do is a little reading and a little math.

I'm confused who actually eats those awful things. And who's eating half at a time. 🤢 I really don't see the issue. Why do people need half a damn cake at a time... This IS why everyone's so fat. I've been in a wheelchair since 2011 and I still weigh 100lbs and maintain my diet solely through diet. I'll never understand why need to eat SO much. It's just gross. There's NO excuses for needing half a cake. When I get cakes from the bakery that are this same size I cut it exactly like this, 8 slices. And it's perfectly enough. Maybe you should just try it. It'll probably really help with your weight and health. Though if everyone keeps getting fat they better start taxing your food like they do tobacco. If you waddle groceries cost 50% more to pay for your healthcare and the super size cremation machines they've had to start buying just to fit y'all in. ☠️🤡☠️🤦‍♀️🙅🤷‍♀️🤣 Maybe try a keto diet though, if you're eating so much cake and sugar, BEFORE you get diabetes. ☠️☠️☠️
