Thanks for having a realistic build video where you share the mistakes and problems encountered and the time to fix them. Half of modeling is us trying to fix our oopsies....😁

Catalina and Constellation are the most beautiful props!
That was worth the wait to watch. I remember you telling me about it. It's not the mistakes we make, just like in life, it's how we recover from them. Nothing is permanent in model building. We can fix all of them. 2 ft. of wingspan, huh? 1st time I saw this kit a Buddy and myself unboxed one in a Nissan/Dodge something or other. For those that don't know, this kit box is bigger than an extra large pizza box. We wound up getting out of the car with parts and sprue trees all over the place. Modeling at its finest. You did a good job on it Hoss. You don't see many built. What's next?

Thanks ut did turn out great! Up next is some 2023 tamiya kits that I as a modeler haven't gotten too and I finally can. So I'm building the ME 262 with the Kettenkraftrad as a diorama. So you'll see the diorama segmented out with the different parts bits and figures. I hope you enjoy those too! Model on!!
That looks fantastic! Awesome job! I built this kit 20 years ago, straight out of the box, I never put any extra details into it. And you did and yours look great!

This kit is nice because it was a Monogram kit. If you want to get a really nice view of a real Catalina make a trip to the Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola,Fla. they have a completely restored fuselage that’s completely cut away. There’s no detail that’s missed. You’ll be amazed,and it’s sitting next to another Catalina with the wings on it,and all inside the museum.

As someone earlier mentioned, There is only one 1/48 scale Catalina and it was originally produced by Monogram and has since been released a half dozen times or so by Revell (once in a Pro Modeler release). It also seems to have been released by Hasegawa although I have never seen the Hasegawa release in person. So any After Market items made for a Revell, Pro Modeler, Monogram or Hasegawa Catalina should work on any of the others as they are all the same kit.
Nice build. I really enjoyed watching it. It great to know about the Eduard external kit Cheers

You also mention another 48 PBY but as far as I know Monogram which is now owned by revell is the only 48th PBY kit made? The kits been released in several schemes over the yrs even a promodeler black cat version. So you will see the kit with a Monogram, Promodeler and the revell label but its all the same mold.

Cool video
Enjoyed the build, but I have a suggestion. Slow down. The reason your wheel wells did not stay in place is because of the paint on them. You had white paint on the mounting surface and green paint on the interior. You need to sand that away so the extra thin cement can get in there and "melt" the plastic together. If there is paint present all you are doing is gluing paint to paint. Just take your time, there is no rush.
@scaleresurrectionmodeler7379
4 ай бұрын
Actually the shape of these wheel wells untouched at a couple points. I didn't quite have time to actually explain that in the video. As there were only 3 points the plastic actually touched wich os why I suggested epoxy as the epoxy would fill in that gap and be rock solid. But yes on any other surface I usually just scrape it off with a tothpic
Wow!
Could you please make a tour of your collection

Definatly a little scary but al you might have to do is add some color to your black paint and that might get you there
Why is the left side window of the canopy still covered with tape and paint?
Originally it is a Pro Modeller/Monogam kit.
One trick I don't know if you know. Before using photoetch parts, pass them lightly over a flame or strong heat source. Just some seconds. That makes the metal far easier to bend to form.

3 pounds of weight, I highly doubt it. 3 pounds would mean the equivalent weight of 12 quarter pounder cheese burgers. 3 ounces makes sense. Other than that, a really nice job done
@scaleresurrectionmodeler7379

It really was 3lbs man. I put 3/4 pack of wheel weights in there and triple checked the weights it was just under 48 puces. Then I had to add 2 fishing wights in the front cause it just wouldn't sit on its nose.
Try surgical gloves instead of those black lumpy ones ,then you might be able to handle the small parts easier, or like I do not wear any at all !

Where is the rest of the wings... the wing tips?
Don't feel bad about the wiring over the door; I manage to turn a 4 day kit build into a three week screw up fest.

There is no 1/48 PBY other than the Revell/Monigram kit. In the initial intro you say the PE is for the "other" kit when it clearly states "for Revell" on the front.

@@scaleresurrectionmodeler7379 Ok, what I was trying to say was that there is only one manufacturer of the Cat in 1/48 scale. The Monogram original tooling of the PBY and PBY-5A range is the only one out there. The Hasegawa was a Revell/Monogram rebox so the PE will fit all of them, unless of course you try to fit the undercarriage upgrade to a PBY lol. The OA designation was just used by the USAAF and USAF. Nice job on those belts BTW!!
