Hi Jane & Stew, We have recently returned home from our French trip where we included Germany and Luxembourg, both very easy for free overnight parking. It was interesting to see your costs listed and the fact you found it so enjoyable that you could have stayed away from home longer. My better half is very much a home bird so our previous trips of three weeks has now become two. You seem to enjoy those back roads and I guess with Harry being a more compact vehicle it proves very easy for you. Looking forward to seeing new episodes of your travels in due course.

Typical cost, I think. It's a Swings and Roundabouts scenario for your French leg of the trip. You saw more sights than most holidaymakers, and covered more kilometers, so the fuel costs are higher but site costs were zero. Heading in August, ferry from Dublin to Cherbourg (€800 return, and thats towards the lower end of the ferry cost spectrum!) then hopefully this year head towards Bruges etc for a change.

I must say - with the GBP exchange rate to the South African Rand being a horrific +-23:1, a quick conversion of your TOTAL trip, would be a whopping R63 330 !!!!! @@getawaygeese I agree. We live in Normandy and your trip is pretty much how are daily lives are here. We visit historic sites, visit markets, eat out so you really were "living" in France pretty much as we do. Maybe useful to work out what it would have cost staying at home, food shopping, fuel costs, parking, home energy costs, entertainment etc. If that total is taken off your trip cost you would have the true "extra" cost of your trip.
