Full UK Driving Test (Toby) - Driving Lessons

UK mock driving test with Toby www.driving-school-beckenham....
Toby wants to take a mock driving test to find out what it's like. He has had only 7 hours of driving lessons with plenty of private practice. Toby intends to book a last minute UK driving test if this goes well and wants to see how ready he is. Even if he doesn't pass this mock driving test then at least he'll be able to learn from it and improve for next time and then go on to pass the real driving test.
Watch this video to gain valuable driving test tips and see what a UK driving test is like. The driving test lasts about 35-40 minutes. You're not allowed any more than 15 driving faults (minors) and no serious or dangerous faults. At the start of the driving test you would have to sign your name on a declaration form, read a number plate and then you'd have to answer two vehicle safety questions (show me tell me questions). This video is not showing a real driving test. Your driving test should include an angle start, a hill start and maybe a controlled stop (emergency stop). This is a mock test and NOT a real driving test. Your examiner might mark more faults or less faults than are shown in this video.
Toby kindly gave us written permission to be filmed and published on KZread.
Toby's driving test was conducted at the West Wickham driving test centre and follows a West Wickham driving test route. It includes some independent driving, 40 mph roads and parallel parking.

    Yeh some of them are a bit tricky. Even as an experienced driver. I always check out google maps before a big journey you can see the road markings so it gives you a good idea of what to do when to get there. If you are not in the right lane you have to just accept it go around again and get back in the correct lane.

    This is how examination should be done. My first two attempts were examined by the same person and she really was a cretin. My first test I got 2 serious fails and 0 minors; one for doing only 55 in a 60 (it was raining) and the second for entering a side road and causing another to break suddenly as I went too quickly (fair enough). Second test I got 2 serious fails and 2 minor; one serious for a van driver who decided to start to leave the roundabout, then serve back in. I braked in time, but she said it was poorly judged. The second was for touching the curb when stopping on the left. Thankfully my third examiner had a brain and I passed with 6 minors.

  • @pineapplepenumbra

    @pineapplepenumbra

    One instructor was complaining, years ago, that he had a student fail for doing 50 mph in a 70, with very heavy rain, they failed for going too slow! He said that he asked the examiner whether they would do 70, and they said that that wasn't the point. Now, I can sort of see both sides. The road does go from a 50 mph to a 70, so maybe check your mirrors and speed up a bit (I wasn't there that day, and don't know quite how bad the weather was) to show the examiner that you're aware of the speed limit change? I once had someone who failed for doing 55mph on a dual carriageway that had been resurfaced some days ago. My student had asked me to sit in the back and I heard one ping from a loose stone, *just the one!* I noticed the examiner lean over to check the speedo, as everyone else raced past at 65 to 75, and wondered what he was thinking. There was a recommended 30 (a 30 in a rectangle) which, when the road was first resurfaced, would have been reasonable, but not several days later, when the loose surface has been tamped down or pinged off by tyres. She was failed for going too fast. I asked the examiner what speed he would do down there and he didn't answer at first, so I repeated the question. He said "30!" which surprised me, I expressed my surprise, as everyone else was going much faster. "Well, you've got to look after your paintwork..." Now he was, generally, a very good examiner, and I was usually happy when my students got him, but this was the one occasion I remember where I wasn't happy.

    +Josh Green I stopped at a yellow because I was scared of going through a red light, and because I was going quite quick I stopped over the line. I would have passed if I had just kept going through the yellow light :) good luck with your test, I'm getting early nights to make sure I'm awake enough for 9pm this Friday.

    Hey World Driving, I had my first test and I failed in a matter of seconds for turning right out of a test centre. At the end she told me the reason I failed was because turning right out of a test centre and I was too much too the right, but I was generally in the middle area allowing room for cars to pass either side of me and there are no road markings on the test centre so I positioned myself where I believe to be it to be safe and for cars to pass either side of me. She also told that I took a lot of chances because generally I would roll in first gear in and around roundabouts and junctions without stopping. And that's where I got marked down 3 times for observations even though I always made sure it was safe to go and occasionally I did stop at junctions.(especially closed junctions).

    That one way system was actually really cool, we should have more of them, maybe with the exits tight together and put around busy junctions. We could call them circleturns. Or crossroundroads. Or maybe even junctatopsies. What do you think? I'd say I'm onto something here.

    Omg i can’t believe it he did so well but that mistake is a costly I guess he did kind of force he’s way onto the roundabout this examiner is very fair and honest. I also thought he was driving way to fast.

    I am quite confused about roundabouts. At some roundabouts when turning right, my instructor has told me that i need to veer into the left lane early, while still signalling right, way before my actual turning so as to block off others who may pull out along side me, and block me from leaving where i want to exit. But to me it makes more sense to me to stay in the right lane and then start to come off the roundabout and signal left when it is actually time to do so. :/ Not sure what to do here

    I struggle to process all the information at once, and balancing out clutch control. I find hills difficult to pull away from, finding that point on the clutch with gas just before you move off. Joining on a slip road and quickly changing up gears I also find a nuisance. I've been told that I need to plan ahead more, rather than reacting as it comes, which I find myself doing a lot out of hesitation. I think this is because the clutch confuses me in conjunction with slowing down and speeding up, I'm constantly checking my speed encase I'm moving too fast, and I often find when I'm observing the road ahead I make more gear and clutch mistakes. Part of me feels maybe an automatic car would be better, as I'm not a good multitasker, but I'm unsure.
