    Lots of work. I applaud your efforts to keep classic American Chevy pickups on the road. Don't know tire size, final gear ratio but in overdrive with 0.70:1 O.D. should be 1,800-2,100 RPM at 65 MPH. DK, ASE Master Tech since 78, retired. (13, first truck 65 Apache $150 bought with hay money, no allowance on family farm, 283 cu in w/power glide).

    @@freemansgarage I woke before 3AM and drove to a field 8 miles to operate a 1974 new 4X4 John Deere for a neighbor farmer for a $1 and hour, until 9:30AM. Ran late one day and went thru a rock bottom dry creek and hit hard. On the gravel road, I made it a mile then the engine locked, oil light came on second as the rear wheels skidded. The power-glide had two pumps, one front and rear and in gear, still had engine braking. It locked up and trans held it, locking the rear wheels. I looked under the front and saw a hole across the oil pan of the 283 / 2BBL. After a few choice words, started walking to school. I got a buddy with a truck & chain, drove out to get it and it was gone!!!! I almost cried. No cell phones in those days but I went to the county seat to the DMV & police. I knew the sheriff as he knew me, dad & grandad. I reported it stolen and lied about the cost, but all ensured me that if licensed in the county, they would impound the truck and arrest who ever was trying to file for it by VIN. I checked several times and nothing. After 3 years, I gave up. All red & white trim with the tiny polished edges on the cab side pieces... I hate this dude, bad.

    @@deankay4434 I'm sorry that happened to you. Your truck is most likely out there somewhere. Probably rotting away in a tree row. I knew some people in high school that stumbled upon a 70 something Ford pickup that had broken down. They got it running & beat on it until they rolled it on its side then left it. One of the many reasons why I started a KZread channel is because I have a goal of putting myself in a position where I can help people. When I have a large enough audience & income, I can use those assets to help people like you find your truck. And to find vehicles that people like us sold years ago & regret & desperately want to find again. I know it's a very lofty goal but I'm going for it. Maybe when the time comes, we can reopen your cold case & take a shot at finding your 65.

    @@freemansgarage Farmer's frequently put old cars into ditches to hold back soil erosion and keep cattle in. I walk a couple hundred feet looking at tracks, never found anything. I would have wait 45 years to get a drone W/Camera! Too late. I won't even tell you about my 68 Dodge Charger stored a my half-brothers farm in the machine shed. On fumes, floor jack on blocks and covered with heavy army tarp. He was 6 years younger and inherited a house, barn and 3 machine sheds after his grandfather passed. On a handshake he told me to store it however long I needed. 7-8 years later, grandma passed and was 180 miles North, as now free and clear. Read in the paper, drove down for the weekend and ask him. His response was "What Dodge" so, since the oldest & adopted, he told me to get off the property! The machine shed was empty. Such a mean bunch as I left the farm at 15. I guess he had to do my work and got even? That one I am sure never went into a ditch as Dukes of Hazards came on TV about 4, maybe 5 years later. But he had an 80's Camero and was working on it. I don't think he could fix a sandwich, much less a car. Still have no clue & this was 30+ years ago. My luck stinks...

    Awesome 👏🏻 work guys love that small window cab I have a question since I am really trying to get one of these either a 67-68 or a obs body style but which one is more popular or would hold the value more ?

  • @motortopiaondemand

    @motortopiaondemand

    Жыл бұрын

    Great question. You should get both! The classic truck market has blown up over the last couple of years and the OBS trucks are starting to bring big money. I don't think you could go wrong with either although an original 1967 big back window truck is pretty hard to find in good shape. '67 was the last year truck featuring the small back window. Also you can't beat the ride quality of a stock OBS. With a quality drop and some wheels you can get a really nice driver that's a collectable.

    Do you feel comfortable using wheel adapters on your project,and if so which brand are you using?

  • @motortopiaondemand

    @motortopiaondemand

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, we have put over 3,000 miles on this truck with this setup riding 80mpg on the hwy and have had no issues. Wheel spaces are required when you're running a 15" wheel and disc brakes because the inside barrel of the wheel will hit the caliper. These wheel spacers came with the truck so we are sure what brand they are. You could always run a bigger wheel to avoid this.
