There is absolutely no way so much contraband could find its way into any prison system without the help of corrupt guards and prison staff.

My sister worked there. The problem is that TDCJ hires just about anyone, and the wardens and other high ranks don't walk the floors and get involved in their employees. My sister felt she couldn't trust her fellow CO's.

I’ve heard that on the prison show on KPFT. They hire anyone off the street and they quit daily or are super lazy and corrupt. when someone dies in prison they always say it was natural causes when it was because they were beaten by guards. I’ve heard all of this on the prison show

The biggest problem as to hiring is where prisons have been built--away from town--and the state doesn't pay moving expenses. It's up to the lege to provide raises, but Texas doesn't keep up with the cost of living. Texas is a lousy employer.

I did 4 years in Texas prison system and had to do 4 more years on parole and if it wasn't for the prison library that had books on drug abuse and alcohol abuse and how to help your self while in prison and going to church and memorizing scriptures and praying all the time I don't I would have made it this far in life 29 years without alcohol and 29 years without eleagal drugs I have a full time job and a savings account and I go to church every Sunday and do Bible study after work and I no longer live in Texas I believe a change in states and a fresh start for me in life has made me a better man in society My advice to any prisoner is you have to dream of turning your life around and going to church to find Jesus Christ and studying the word every chance you get and lurning to stay to your self and hold a job and always be think full for that and all always pay your bills on time and you'll make it off parole and as soon as you get off parole leave Texas and never look back

10:04 Wow. Ive did time with Ramon. Didn't talk to him often, but I remember him well. One thing I remember about him that he was a very positive guy and was always smiling! Seeing him in this video made me both happy and sad..happy that he's alive and looking well, and sad that he's still there "11 YEARS" after I left. I don't know what he was in there for, but if anyone was worth enough to be set free, it would be most DEFINITELY HIM. And he hasn't aged at all except for a little more gray 🤣! Hopefully one day he'll be free. Not only he's needed for guidance in there, but he would be a perfect inspiration on the outside, and worth more to society 💯

At 5:45: they should make sure that they'd investigate those officers too. Because I know from experience. I am a ex con. I've served 5 years in TDCJ-ID. And part of my sentence was served on the Wynne Unit, in Huntsville, Texas. I was in Ad. Seg. Those officers try their best to make your life miserable and will assault you. They try their best to provoke you, via extreme and abusive harassment. And I'm talking about the ranking officials as well. It's so typical that the prisons only talks about "how dangerous the inmates are." But never speak on "the corruption of the administration itself." So typical! But I know better.

Oh man! My Alma mater! Wynne was my first unit and where I cut my teeth as a CO. One of the oldest max units, it "wuddn't no joke," as they'd say. 28 years since I walked those runs, and was down with my Hommies. This is where I learned that respect is earned and not just given. That "firm fair and consistent," isn't just a slogan, but the real path to self respect. That when the court sentenced even the worst people in society, that they took away their time, and not their humanity. I spent the next 24 years in SAFP and the things I learned here made my career fruitful in helping men fight their demons of addiction. Seeing this video brought back a flood of memories. I saw a documentary some time ago about a big prison in Singapore. The inmates cells are thoroughly searched each morning and any type of contraband or not following the prison rules, will lead to additional corporal punishment and added prison time. Their cells must also be cleaned by the inmates and all items in the cell, must be displayed in the correct order before the morning inspection. 👍👍

no, the staff is acting like they're searching and checking but they're really not because they're all in on it. I know someone who is locked up and has been in there for seven years now and I can tell you right now 90% of the drugs and cell phones are coming in from the guards. These guards are making a kill'n from these inmates. These inmates that are addicted to drugs are in high heaven right now! with that being said, no one is learning any lessons at all because they use drugs on the outside and they could care less if they get locked up because they know that when they get locked up, they will still have access to drugs, regardless, so getting in trouble means nothing to them anymore. Also, they do have drones. I know this for absolute fact that are flying in drugs and cell phones. But most of it is through the guards that is an absolute fact!!!

Maybe we shouldn’t incarcerate everyone and their dog in this country and we wouldn’t have to devote so many resources. Scandinavian countries provide a concrete example of how to lower recidivism. Most these men need mental health treatment, esp addicts, not prison. As soon as we can get Protestant, or really all religious influence out of our legislatures, stop locking people up for “sins,” we can start to move forward as a modern, secular society, and have a much higher quality of life. Do your own research; it’s why incarceration rates are so high. The most secular countries on earth have much higher quality of life, lower incarceration and recidivism rates, and the list goes on.

I once worked in a county facility as a C.O. and had access to emergency access keys (Folger Adam type). There was one key that could open all of the doors manually with this key and could lead you out of the jail. I was offered $1 million for that key by a Crip leader who was facing serious time on his charges. I laughed it off and told me "you know I can't do that." I was given a lot of respect by the Crips after that. I never turned that inmate in to intelligence or wrote him up for it where he could have faced serious internal consequences (Ad-Seg., restricted jail movement, etc...) and possible bribery or escape charges.

Same here! The inmates know the COs are under paid. I worked Ferguson unit in 2015. You couldn’t live on what were were paid. I think Tdcj should be one of the higher paying state jobs considering what the officers deal with daily. And yes they Should be more selective in who they hire. The only real qualification to get hired is to be able to count…. Seriously

Legit .... ANY crime outside of hurting children or unmotivated acts of extreme violence shouldn't hold a life sentence. The prison system was supposed to be designed to "rehabilitate" criminals ... NOT to permanently house them. Problem is all these prisons get paid per inmate...More inmates with longer sentences=more money. The whole system is corrupt as can be.
