Full Send 4x4 Battle on Australia's Most Famous Sand Dune | Big Red, Simpson Desert | Outback Ep. 3
In the season finale of the Black Stump Outback Special, we have a competition amongst ourselves on Big Red in the Simpson Desert. There's certainly something disconcerting about driving the hell out of your car when home is almost 2000km away, but we did it anyway. Enjoy.
Side note - thank you for all the positive feedback for this series. I know everybody loves the Patrol content, but this is my favourite style of video to produce so its mad to see y'all enjoying it.

Fantastic series fellas. Really enjoyed your top effort in cinematography. Great soundtracks too. Look forward to more Aussie 4x4 content from you guys.
Very keen for some more content like this mate. This series represents what real Aussie 4wd trips with ya mates looks like .
Your aussie song selection is bloody good, specially in these desert vids (one more day, floodlights, p plates). Great vid and camera work, keep it up bud. Might help Aussie cinema make a comeback one day

Thanks mate, we didn't actually cross the Simpson - just went out to Birdsville/Big Red via Idalia NP and Welford NP then back home again. The total trip was about 3500km over 8 days. I averaged 600km per 80L tank in the BT, so would've used 6 tanks at around $100 each. Aside from the fuel, we kept it as cheap as possible. Camping would've been about $20 each for the week, since we free camped or stayed in NPs whenever we could. Groceries were around $150 for me, then a $50 case of beer and that was pretty much it.
Cool watch boys cheers
listen to those BT's go!

Great episodes guys. Why did you stop filming?
Great series guys, thanks heaps. Looks like you had plenty of fun! I'm curious, in the BT50, did you stay in auto or select a gear to get up the steep 3rd hill on Big Red? Cheers
@123mj1234

Thanks mate, appreciate it 👌 and yeah I was selecting gears in manual mode. If I remember correctly I was usually in 4th or 5th low range at the end of my run up at bottom of the dune, and then I’d have to have dropped it down to 3rd low by the top.

Were you all, and in particular the jimny - in 4wd-l 2nd gear? I have trouble going up dunes as the esc always engaging at 40 km/h even though I turn it off... help? :)

not yet but I’ve got some on order, the store should be opening pretty soon
I don’t think the rear locker stays engaged when ya got certain speeds on the BT?
@123mj1234

Yeah it turns off at 30km/h once you let off, but it can’t turn off if you stay on the throttle
Deflate the tires to 8 psi on the big trucks and 6 psi on the jimny and thank me later!
can you make a video on how you make your turbos sound like that
@123mj1234

they’re stock turbos, they just make that noise when the car stalls under load or is about to stall. A snorkel probably makes it louder too
What can you say about your bt50s?satisfied with the performance?

Yeah they perform awesomely in pretty much all situations in my experience, both on and off road. Plenty of power and torque, and I regularly tow over 3 tonne with mine on the 295s. They've got heaps of guard clearance for big tyres, strong drivelines and are really stable off road seeing as they're pretty low and wide. I also love how comfortable mine is on long drives - I get out of the car feeling pretty fresh even after a 9 hour day behind the wheel. The only thing I don't love about is the 14L/100km fuel economy but mine is 2.8 tonne (Ryan gets closer to 9L/100 with the tune), and I've got my doubts about Ford build quality with all the buzzes and rattles that have started in the cab.

@@specificgamer_2439 mate I've towed, pulled and loaded my 2016 bt50 to the max great reliability over this time , just standard servicing in that time . No stress about towing one of the best utes Ive used, pulls like train and is stable on the road when doing it . Just hope the new version that's based on the isuzu lives up the the same traits as the old model. 👍🏻
Hey mate how have you got her to flutter like that??

better off asking your state motor department about legal mods not some guys on youtube
Looks like a couple of idiots with over inflated tyres ripping a sandhill apart. Been up Big Red a few times in a fully loaded non turbo 75 series Land Cruiser ute with no difficulty at all & without speed or destruction. It's a no brainer about tyre pressures . A bad look for 4wd -ers & genuine campers trying to stop tracks being closed off. If you can make Big Red look that hard it's time to buy a Comodore & do bog laps of Brisvegus
Well done on needlessly carve up a sand dune. People like you give 4x4 drivers and overlanders a bad name.

Every other comment on this video is people enjoying themselves and finding motivation to get out and see this place, which grows the 4X4 community and eventually supports these towns too. The fact that you are the only one annoyed by driving up a premade track on private property might reflect more on yourself than me :)
