    I have an RD-6700 that was totally frozen up. I was able to get everything back to specs and freed up except the B-Axle bolt and tensioner spring. After watching your video, I was able to disassemble/clean/grease/reassemble and remount on the frame. It is as limber as my other two bikes with Shimano RD's. THANKS for your video, it saved me probably $30 in labor by doing it myself. Have a great day!!!

    HellO! I had a question! For the spring in the derailleur, what happens if you insert the spring into the second plate hole, and not the first? My shifting for my ultegra 6700 isnt very good. it is from a 2010 bike that did have many miles. I was wondering if the spring is just old and doesnt have tension so I was thinking of engaging the spring in the second plate hole to have it under more tension or, alternatively, I replace the spring.

    Would buying older used 10 speed Ultegra derailleurs like this be a better option than a new Tiagra 10 speed derailleur if I'm willing to do a similar type of restoration? While I'm not really concerned about weight, I would prefer to have the older Ultegra or Dura Ace piece if it works better despite being older. There seem to be a lot of high-end used 9 and 10 speed parts around in his shape (you know, because they were expensive lol).

    @@admiralarmchairfleet8403- I think you’re wrong. If you notice when he disassembled it, the groove open area goes on the facing outward. That’s so that the washer which is cupped fits inside of the gasket seals. I looked at the technical drawing as you mentioned, and it’s hard to tell the direction from those drawings. I disassembled mine for the first time and the flat side was definitely on the inside, allowing the washer lip to fit inside of the gasket seal like I described. This is an awesome video. Thank you very much for posting it.

    is there a way to change the shifting ratio of a 11speed rd to work with 10 speed cassette?

  • @Gractus

    @Gractus

    Жыл бұрын

    Derailleurs don't really have "speeds" since they're not indexed, they just move as far as the cable is pulled. The shifter is the thing that determines if it's a 9, 10, 11, etc speed since it's the part that determines exactly how far the cable is pulled for every gear. As long as it's still a Shimano shifter with a Shimano RD (excluding Tiagra 4700 shifters which are apparently their own special thing) it should work fine. But if you've got 11 speed shifters then there isn't really any way to make that work with a 10 speed cassette.

  • @velvetbikes

    @velvetbikes

    Жыл бұрын

    The shifting ratio is determined by the shifter, not the derailler.

  • @Kumacattv
    @Kumacattv Жыл бұрын

    Everything was awesome until you used that cheap 'knock off' threadlocker! Loctite ( just like Shimano, who invented indexed shifting) invented the threadlocker. Given that you use a fair amount of grease on your re-assembly, Loctite thread lockers today are better formulated to resist oil on threads and cure properly vs knock off brands. A 'blue' coloured threadlocker is probably overkill for that bolt. (aka Loctite 243 or 242). So Loctite 222 (Europe) or 222MS (North America) is what I use. It's got a purple color and roughly half the removable strength of 243. Thanks again for the video. It will definitely come in handy.
