Mount was not special at Chelsea. I feel like Antony is too much of a prima donna that only has flashes of brilliance. Compare him to other lefties like Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez who work hard on defense, he doesn’t benefit the team as much like them. Dalot is not top tier quality, he gets caught ball watching a lot. When they play Fernandes and Eriksen together there is no real defense in the middle. It’s just so obvious their problems.

Thank you Craig Burley for speaking some sense. For once, we have a pundit who is not looking at this incident through the lens of bias or because Saint Marcus is a protected species and can do no wrong. It’s not about intent, it’s about the outcome, and in this case he could’ve broken the opponents leg. That in itself is a red card. Craig is absolutely right when he said that had this been the other way around the very same pundits protecting Rashford would be up in arms and demanding justice. And imagine if Bruno had been the recipient, he would’ve acted as if his leg had been severed. This is why Craig is a legend amongst pundits.

The problem with the Rashford red card is this. It is a red under the current rules , but the current rules are going in the wrong direction. It’s not actually a “challenge” or a tackle. People need to stop calling it a “ challenge “. He’s simply trying to place his body and his leg into a position to protect the ball. But this isn’t really the point here. So what is the point I’m making ? Well , this red card could have happened to any player on that pitch. In fact , it could happen to any player in any match at any time. Players will make that move to protect the ball in matches and in 99.9% of cases it won’t result in a bad injury or a red. It’s just pure random luck or bad luck. He wasn’t stamping on the player. So what’s the rule for with that type of event? Notice one thing. Are people saying things like….” Rashford had to walk , because it’s that kind of challenge that we are trying to eliminate from the game “….we can’t say that because he wasn’t even aware of where the players leg was and he wasn’t even trying to tackle or win the ball. It’s just an accident. It’s very much like a player going up for a header and using his arms for leverage when jumping and then catching the opponent in the face with his elbow. It could result in a nasty injury or damage his eye. Do we give a red card ? Most often not because we recognise that it’s just part of the game. We can’t ask players to not go up for headers and always be 100% aware of where their opponents face is. Grown men playing a physical sport will hurt each other from time to time. Just deal with it. It’s not tiddlywinks. Are we going to have a rule that says goalkeepers must not charge out with both fists and punch the ball away from a cross? In case they make contact with an opponents head ? A goalie could take someone’s head off like that , but they still do it. So if an attacker gets knocked out by such an event , should it be a red card ? If so then why ? The whole point of red cards is to try and eliminate certain things from the game and stop things like two footed jump tackles and lunges going in high with studs. But can anyone say that Rashford did anything out of the ordinary ? Go back and watch the footage. After the challenge the referee , the players did nothing. They didn’t even notice anything that unusual. Play continued. Rashford had no idea what was coming. The point is that it will happen again and it will just be random bad luck. People need to get used to this idea that it’s possible to have a really bad , career ending injury in football without anyone having done anything particularly reckless or dangerous. It’s called the laws of physics. When big strong men get together and play football at speed then s**t can happen……and it can happen at any time to anyone by anyone. All it takes is for your ankle to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Using red cards at these moments is not appropriate. The only way to 100% avoid “ endangering “ players is not to play at all and go to a restaurant or a bar with a chessboard.

Yep in most matches you play you need control and in order for that you can't have players giving away the ball needlessly which rashford and bruno especially are the biggest culprits of at utd. They also need to either play eriksen in the 10 or if you play him in the pivot then you need to pair him up with someone to cover him with high workrate and intensity but is good enough on the ball.

Man utd struggled to beat Copenhagen at old Trafford , surviving even a last min pk miss by Copenhagen. Every sign pointed to a better result for Copenhagen at home.

Not surprised at all with the outcome.

Good teams do great with 10 men and maybe even harder to break down prime example is PRIME Barca vs Chelsea when Terry got sent off and Barca led 2-0 yet chelsea got a 2-2 draw being 10 men down for 60-70 mins this united side just crumble when anything happens absolutely spineless

I take issue with Rashford's tackle being described as reckless. Reckless suggests he was out of control with no regard for the other players health. It was a reasonable movement in an effort to shield the ball. I think referees need to get back to trying to see actions from a player's perspective. I don't think a player deserves to be sent off for that and be banned for 2 Champions League fixtures in my opinion.

Terrible argument, if it’s not reckless - he’s in control of it, as you said. So you’re then saying, if he was in control, that he must have intentionally stamped on the lads leg 🤦‍♂️ I don’t like that it was a red, find it a bit unfair, but you can’t say it wasn’t reckless without saying it was then intentional - which we all know it wasn’t 🤷‍♂️

@@tomwebster5348 mate, come on, clearly I'm not saying that. Yes, I am saying he was in control, as I said it was an honest movement to shield the ball. You can be in control of your movements and catch a player accidentally. As you know, in every team sport, players will challenge for the ball honestly and collisions are part of sport. I just think it's a really harsh approach to ban a player for 2 games for this kind of thing. There was no malice in it. I know the officials try to protect the players but I think it's gone too far the other way now, where players are getting punished harshly for things that are just part of the game.

@@spiringcircle9957 I agree, I see what you’re saying, just if he’s in control it implies intent in a way - yeah, we both know he didn’t mean to do it, but the question would be why did he have to shield with his leg that far out? Wasn’t that close to the ball tbf - obviously it was reactionary but still something officials would point towards. I don’t think it should be a red even if it is by definition of the rules. The rules unfortunately don’t account for the fact football is a contact sport and accidents will happen anymore - it’s very obvious when a player means it and he definitely didn’t there. Again, I agree that it’s nuts that he’ll miss the next two CL games from that too. I don’t think that was the worst VAR call of the night, the handball for uniteds penalty was never a penalty - even mark goldbridge was live saying ‘that’s never a penalty but we’ll take it’ which says a lot 😂

It's really heartening to see a small provincial club score 3 goals away from home in the CL against a European giant.

It's not about VAR. It's about what should be a straight red. If there is no intent to harm the opponent and isn't a 1:1 against the goalie situation, none of these incidents should be a straight red even inside the 18-yard box. The rule should change.

I respectfully disagree, the rule is there to protect the players from potential injuries. He could've snapped his ankle regardless of his intent. I agree that it was not intentional, but he unfortunately put himself in that situation.

@@thegrindpodcastwithdanielr3781 but did Rashford's play harm the other player? Sometimes it may look like the play is dangerous but it may really not be. Like you could stretch your leg against your opponent to retrieve the ball but you might not exert much force against the opponent. These things do happen. If there is no intent, players can subconsciously control their force right before reaching the opponent when they know it could harm the opponent. That's why the intent is important. VAR should serve to catch such a nuisance and not used as 'oh that seemed dangerous so I will give a straight red' even though the opponent didn't feel anything. Anyone can tell that there was zero intent in this case. That's why most players and pundits who have played the game at the highest level don't agree that should be a straight red. Even the ones that don't have anything good to say about Man UTD. You can't tell me these situations are as bad as a slide tackle on the ankle from the rear. Giving a straight red in these kind of situations will make the intensity go down and hurt football eventually.

Mourinho and CR7 being labelled as problems still surprise me. United fans were anti mourinho cos he called out pogba and are now anti CR7 because he called out Ten Hag. Weird choices by the fanbase. Let’s hope Ten Hag comes good though
