Full OEM Appearance Package Installation ND MX-5 Miata

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I finally added the OEM Appearance Package to my 30th Anniversary Edition Miata! In today's video, I'm going to show you how to install it as well! You will need two specialty tools, a jack nut and a rivet installer. Below are the links to the tools I purchased:
Jack nut installer: www.rivetsonline.com/jack-nut...
Rivet installer: www.harborfreight.com/hand-ri...
I purchased this appearance package directly from the Mazda dealership that I used to work at. It can be purchased at any Mazda dealer or Moss Miata.
Here are the part numbers for the full kit:
Front air dam: QNDE50AH0BPZ
Front air deflector: N243V4990 for SOFT TOP, N248V4990 for RF
Side sill extensions: QNDE-51-P10A-PZ
Rear trunklid spoiler: QNDN-51-960 -PZ
Rear diffuser: QNDE-50-360A-PZ
Templates for drilling holes and aligning the parts along with installation instruction documents can be found for each product above on Mazda USA's website: parts.mazdausa.com/accessorie...
Just scroll to find each accessory that you need documents for. Then click on attachments and you should find templates and installation instruction PDFs. If any of these do not work, your local dealership may be able to provide them.
I hope you guys enjoyed this video and found it helpful! Please leave any questions and comments below. Thank you so much for watching, and don't forget to like this video and subscribe to the channel!

    If you are looking for the templates for drilling holes or the installation instructions, great news! I just added a link in the description that takes you to the accessories section on Mazda USA's website where you can find each part of the appearance package and open PDFs of the documentation. Simply click on the product you need instructions for and then click on the attachments button. If this does not work, your local dealership may be able to provide the templates and instructions. Thanks for watching!

    A few things I've found from doing similar projects on my car: 1) The Club trim, at least the ND2's for sure, come with the front splitter from the factory, so you'll only need to order the side sills and rear diffuser. 2) After using an all purpose cleaner to take care of most of the gunk under the car, wiping all tape mating surfaces with alcohol will help remove any residuals oils for a better bond. 3) Using a hair dryer to up the panels and tape strip will help the adhesive on 3M tape bond. Is helpful for those of us doing this install during the winter months. 4) Check the placement of your template. Then check again. Are you positive? Check one last time. There's no un-drilling once those holes are there.

    Great tips, thanks for sharing! Especially using alcohol to ensure the tape sticks good. Using an adhesion promoter wouldn't be a bad idea either. I should've done that and the hairdryer technique on my front splitter because I don't think I got the tape to stick good enough, but at least the bolts are secure

    I've been looking at bodykits and spoilers lately, and I've figured out it's best to go with the oem accessory options. I did price aftermarket ones, namely Maxton Design, and not only would I be paying 85% of the cost of the Mazda originals, I'd also be waiting 4 weeks minimum for the parts to ship 🙄 I can get the Mazda parts in under 5 days 👍 so I'm going this route.

    Really great video! Those parts definitely make the car more sporty. I ordered these for my RF right away after watching this. I didn't buy the front air dam since my club trim comes with it. I got the front air defector for RF, and there are 2 pieces instead of the long one for soft top in the video, but I don't have instructions on how to install those on RF. Tried to search the instructions online for RF air deflector, but it seems the the front air dam instructions only mentions how to install the soft top air deflector. Planning to install all of them this weekend following this video!

    So I fitted the front lip yesterday, and while it's pretty straightforward, the instructional booklet itself is a bit of a mess. Regardless, for the price, they should include new inner fender strips instead of having to cut the winglets to size. But yeah, sideskirts next for me, I have to space out the parts fortnightly tho because they're ridiculously overpriced 😢

    Thank you so much for this video. I have watched it a couple of times. I bought the used front and rear lip online, and they didn't come with all the parts (no bolt, no tapping screw, no jack nut and without spacer). I have some question and hopefully you could answer Front lip: 1. I bought an M6 jack nut, but i heard you are saying the package comes with M5. Would that be a problem? 2. Do you know what is the size of the short tapping screw that has the length of 12mm? 3. Do you know what is the size of the Tapping screw (L=20mm) ? 4. What is the spacer for? The same question on the rear lip too, do you know the size of the tapping screw with washer from the kit please? Thank you.

  • @DriveMX5

    @DriveMX5

    Жыл бұрын

    I’m glad the video has been helpful! In response to your questions: 1. As long as you use M6 hardware to match the jack nuts, it should work fine. You might need to drill out the corresponding holes in the front lip to make the larger hardware fit but it will still work. 2/3. I think the tapping screws are the same size as the other hardware in the kit, equivalent to M5 or 6. 4. If you’re talking about the foam spacer, I’m not sure. I don’t think I used those foam blocks. There is a spacer that mounts on the lip itself. That helps the fitment of the lip.

    My Spyder grill isn’t nearly as flush looking as yours appears to be. (See my latest video). I found that pushing it in, pops it from the tabs on the back side. I’ve installed and uninstalled it twice and cannot get it flush. As if it’s supposed to be exposed about a half inch along the top of the grill, unlike yours which appears to be inside the mouth opening almost a half inch along the top. I have the 30th AE RF, and that shouldn’t really matter. Any idea? Did you just not fully insert into the top tabs from the back side? I also performed the cut that helps with rigidity from the original OEM grill, but that doesn’t seem to harm the install with how it sits in the front fascia. Thanks! Love your content. My wife hates you though, because you’ve forced my hand on plenty of accessories.

  • @DriveMX5

    @DriveMX5

    It is supposed to have a lip that sticks out at the top about a half inch. It does that when the grille is fully seated in the bumper and tabs. I haven’t been able to get mine to stay fully seated in the tabs, it always pops out, hence why it is flush. Same thing happens on my wife’s MX-5. Maybe cutting that support from the OEM grille helps add the rigidity it needs to stay in the tabs? I’m not sure. Thank you for the kind words! Tell your wife I said sorry, but also not sorry haha
